Possibly. And my answers to questions might have indicated that I thought the entire industry was completely frivolous and unnecessary

I didn't apply as such, I was contacted by their internal recruitment team.

I didn't know too much about it until I did my research for the interview.

The BBC, over the last couple of years, trying to click bait me into reading about/ watching woman's sport. Why can’t I turn it off? Or, why try and hide the articles purpose, by not using clear images?

I hardly have enough time to watch the best professionals in football, rugby, cricket etc. that’s on tv.

I certainly don’t have enough time to watch part time lorry drivers and IT managers play the games in a significantly worse way than the best teams. In the same way I don’t watch the Ryman leagues or whatever it’s called now.

And whilst it is impressive to be good at any sport, I have no interest in being tricked by the BBC for a political aim.

Yes highly irritating but due to the BBC killing 2 birds with one stone. Being able to purchase and show key live sport events that other broadcasters don’t want and so don’t outbid them, whilst claiming that their objective is promoting equality.
Highlights of ladies internationals in front of empty stadiums are shown before men’s prem games or champs league games.
Articles on the website are deliberately mixed so as to shown as having equal importance with ambiguous headings like “Chelsea sign Greek international” which then turns out to be the ladies team if you don’t notice the faded “ladies football” header.
Mrs TuT approves but couldn’t name a female footballer and certainly wouldn’t watch a game whereas she regularly watches the mens game.

I think it could be a DCMS led agenda, as Skysports do it too. It allows them to say ‘look how many more people are now clicking on woman's sport articles because of us’ when I imagine the vast vast majority instantly click off and swear to be more careful next time.

This was covered not long ago but mobile phone contracts, specifically O2.

I’ve finally reached the end of my three year contract, hadn’t planned to upgrade as planned to go Sim only, but thought I’d look anyway.

Sim only, 24 months, 30gb data, unlimited calls txts etc - £15 p/m.

When I looked at upgrading to another iPhone, the cheapest airtime plans they come with were all £35 a month (the device plan is still separate to that) no option of the £15 one.

So basically if you want to upgrade they fleece you for an extra £20 month on the airtime plan (that absolutely nobody needs) as well, and don’t give you the option of a cheaper one. No thank you.

With you on this, and jumped ship a few years back. By shopping around our family of 5 gets 60GB each on sim only contracts for £70 a month with EE.
Never upgrade mobile contracts, it's madness.

You can extend that to contracts of any kind: utilities, insurance etc. I get that companies want to attract new customers with 'special deals', but to do it to the extreme detriment of existing customers is wholly unfair and involves everyone in loads of unnecessary research and admin. Having to switch each time shouldn't have become the norm.

Yeah, I went with my last car insurance company because they were the cheapest, changed my car mid year to something fairly similar, they wanted an extra £250 to change the car and the policy was only £300 to start with. It was that or £30 to cancel, obviously I cancelled, but it’s so blatantly obvious they only want you through the door so they can try and rip you off later on.

Mine was up recently and was direct with O2. Wanted a new phone and the total "new" package was ridiculous if you upgraded with O2.

I shopped about a bit and found the same on https://www.buymobiles.net/ for about £15 a month less, but still with O2. Spoke to O2, who refused to match the offer on their own network and came out with some non-reasons to stay with them, like they have good customer service.

    Just plain weird.

Go to an O2 shop and once you've found an assistant that can speak English, work it out directly. Buy phone outright and just pay for calls. Mine's about 10 quid a month (plus the coal required to power my phone)

Agreed. I watched about 2 minutes of the women's FA Cup final yesterday. Utter cr ap. When are the BBC going to stop pretending that people are interested in this nonsense? If they must show women's sport to fill a quota of some sort I suggest they put on beach volleyball

I received this in an email from my car insurer a few days ago, so looks like the FCA are doing something...

"I'd like to tell you about a new regulation from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). For all motor or home insurance renewal quotes generated on or after 1 January 2022, we'll make sure the price you pay is the same or cheaper than if you were a new customer with us for a like-for-like policy.

This significant change will impact every motor and home insurer in the UK but it won’t affect your cover or the quality of our service."

Yes but like all things in life, do you think they've reduced the price of existing policy holder's renewals to match the offers they give to (potential) new customers or vice versa?

It'll probably take 2 or 3 years to wash through, but the end result will be people who change providers most years will pay more, whilst those who stick with a provider for longer will pay less. With the obvious proviso that the average premium across the spectrum will be higher.

  31. UEA_Hornet

I don't see how that outcome would be in the insurance companies' interests though? I'd have thought they'd want to keep the balance pretty even otherwise if it tilts the other way it's just as bad.

I think he means the individuals who tend to change each year will have higher annual premiums and those who tend to stay with one insurer will see their premiums drop a little.

So lets say every year I get offered a renewal at £500 or I can do elsewhere for £400.

Person A stays at the same insurer for five years, it costs them £2500.

Person B moves every year, it will cost them £2000.

Now, these prices will be the same and will be closer to the 500 figure, lets say £480.

Over the next 5 years that will be £2400.

So Person A, who would have stuck with their insurer anyway, will save £100, but person B, who would normally have changed, will have to pay £400 more.

What I meant to imply is that it would not be surprising to see a surreptitious average premium increase across the industry as a whole over a 2-3 year period. Relatively easy to hide as premiums will be all over the place for part of that period, and definitely in the interests of the companies' bottom lines.

    Edit: as per nornironhorn's example

Incidentally regarding my post above, you can get 0% over 24 months through Apple for a new iPhone plus a discount trading your old phone in.

So instead of signing up for a 36 month contract through 02 and paying something like £70 a month for an iPhone 13 pro, you could instead do sim only for 24 months then buy the same phone interest free over 24 months with Apple for about £30 a month less in total, and have it paid for a year earlier.

So basically you’d be mad to renew directly with them.
