Brilliant diving gold from Tom and Matty there, beating the Chinese with brilliant consistency.

Brilliant diving gold against the robotic Chinese winning by 1 point!
Well done to Tom Daley and Matt Lee who moved to London to train.
That was pressure pressure all the way...

I just knew that you would be craving my opnion on the subject. You carry on your enjoyment of the various throwing, jumping, speed walking, lifting, skateboarding, cycling, rowing etc to see who's using the most effective undetectable drugs these days. No answer to my question so I've had to google it....another 2 weeks of this peripheral sporting nonsense !

I turned the TV when they were halfway through the 6 dives. I'm pleased for Daley, worked so hard and unfortunately his dad died before 2012. I remember watching a documentary some years ago, Daley was saying that the Chinese divers were not going to school but were training for 8-10 hours every day for years. I assume it's not the only sport the Chinese do that for.

That Scottish Taekwondo commentator is a bit of a wag. Sarcastically explaining the ridiculousness of some of the rules.

Well, the Chinese are big camping enthusiasts. Right from the womb, they are off to the camps for gymnastics, badminton, swimming, weightlifting, and their most prestigious sport, re-education. They have camps for everything.

And a brilliant gold for Tom Pidcock in the cross-country cycling. I love to see young kids follow their dream, and succeed. Here's young Tom on his way, in his Watford FC outfit.

Chinese guys probably won’t be allowed back in the country!!

Good on our guys for getting gold - probably taken a lot of pressure off Tom Daley in particularly.

Fabulous gold for fabulous Tom Pidcock in the Mountain Biking. Incredible athlete.

Disappointment for favourite Matthieu Van Der Poel who was unaware that a ramp (ever present during practice) had been removed, leading to a horrific crash. https://twitter.com/bbcsport/status/1419586024666173441?s=21

Absolutely this for me. The build up to this year’s Olympics passed me by and I thought maybe I wouldn’t be that bothered this time around but, as always, I have been sucked in and find myself captivated by events I would have zero interest in usually. Currently thoroughly enjoying the men’s gymnastics.

We are now in line for at least a Silver as Lauren Williams has reached the final of her weight category in Taekwondo, so hopefully she can get the gold that Jade Jones sadly missed out on.

She was 6 points up with 25 secs remaining but lost in the end.

Very unlucky but that seems to how it goes, a decent lead with a few seconds to go doesn’t mean a great deal as the other fighter will just come at you

Very hard lines for Lauren Williams. In a blink of an eye, at the end of a contest, the medal colour changes. Them's the breaks.

I'm about as far from an expert on this as is possible, but it seemed the GB side used the review as a tactical breather opportunity with 14 seconds left but might have better just letting the clock run and the GB woman's momentum see her through.

Yes I thought similar, she’d just got a streak of points so I’m not sure the break helped her. Obviously gave her opponent the chance to regroup come at her.

She needed to bend over to tie her shoelaces to run down the clock.

The best bit about Taekwondo that I’ve learnt is that you have to come forward and engage in the fight. Unlike some other combat sports where you can get a lead and then just evade confrontation to take a win.

I've seen some just fall down and roll over like the person who beat Jade Jones to waste time.

    Suppose you live and learn!

If there ever was an Olympic sport which would suit Watford's profile it would be Taekwondo. Winning with 10 seconds to go, only to end up losing, is very Watford. :D

You can also be 6-0 down in seconds. Just like us against City.

Bit frustrated with the news and general coverage of the Mountain biking. It’s fair enough that Pidcock is story no 3 behind Peaty and Daley, but the coverage doesn’t get over just how brutal mountain biking is. ‘Cross country’ makes it sound a wheeze, but most people, say 99.9% wouldn’t be able to even ride the course it’s that extreme. Most good bike riders couldn’t, let alone attack it.

Pidcock is an astonishing individual and most he beat are too.

Mind you, even Bournemouth fans would have been impressed with the diving. Phenomenal.

I expect the ink is just about dried on Tom Daley’s lucrative career swap to football on the South Coast.

Surely Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling should be winning the diving contests.....:p

Russia won the mens team gymnastics. Artur Dalaloyan coming back after a serious Achilles injury three months ago to help claim the gold ahead of China and Japan.

Recovering from a broken collarbone in May too. What a tough cookie. Talking of collarbones reminds me of Fillipo Galli breaking his during the first half of a game and continuing playing until half-time. What a player!

Another silver in the triathlon for us .

A first ever gold for Bermuda with a little help from the UK.

    From BBC Sport:

“Flora Duffy is 2,500m from the gold medal.

Believe it or not she could actually have competed for Team GB.

Her parents both have British passports and after a spell at boarding school in Tavistock, Devon, from 16-18, she was offered the chance to join the GB set-up”

Phenomenal effort from Duffy to win so convincingly and to Taylor-Brown for getting silver despite a flat tire.

Would have been more coverage if the event didn’t overlap with the diving.
Pity as I would have liked to see more.

Predictions from commentators of young Pidcock moving on to road races and of being a future Tour de France winner as he has so much talent..

  35. Sahorn

Pedant alert, only Americans get flat tires, we British unluckily get flat tyres.. :)

The way Taylor-Brown hauled in the runners in front of her after the extra effort riding on a flat and losing so much time , especially overhauling the American, was nothing short of brilliant.

The union flag still gets run up the winners pole as its on the Bermuda flag.
The tiny island’s first Olympic Medal, party time on the beach ...
