How dare you contradict Observer Ryan! He had messages from club sources (plural), that we are not interested him. He then contradicts himself in a reply by saying it could happen, but let’s ignore that. He’s clearly ITK.
I have quite a lot of Portuguese friends, I have asked a couple about this lad and they say he is a very talented player and he is worth a lot more than what we are supposedly getting him for. Having said that one of the lads I asked raved about Carrillo as well.
More Portuguese outlets beginning to tweet this now. Nothing new, just seems a rehash of the original story.
Carrillo was excellent for Sporting but he was pretty awful for Benfica so I suppose it depends on who he supports.
Portuguese friends, Arsenal family and friends. Respect to you for not (admitting to) supporting someone else under all that pressure.
Yeah there were a few occasions. Clearly talented but I thought he spent most of his time here hiding from the ball. I wish we had given Lukebakio a few chances over him - particularly when it was clear he would not be sticking around at the end of the season.
Yes, Ryan, please pass along everything you hear without knowing if it's true or not. It's a great way to establish credibility.
Just to be clear, all the stuff I'm passing on is 100% OC. I've not heard any of it. Absolutely pure.
Have signed him several times on football manager and was a very frustrating collection of pixels. Capable of genius in short spells but ultimately frustrating when starting runs of games. Because of that is a no from me.
On their forum they seem to think we've offered 13m (€ I assume). Not sure where that info has come from. Doesn't say if it's been accepted or not either.
Are we thinking his first name pronounced a bit like ‘Giovanni’ or are we going to Hertfordshirise his name as Jovain?
It's an approximation of the Italian Giovanni I think, if he pronounces it phonetically in Portuguese. He's from Cape Verde so I don't know if Creole phonology is any different!
I believe Cape Verde speak Portuguese, so a J does sound how we’d say J, unlike Spanish for example where it’s a Y sound.
To be a ****head pedant, the J is much more like the sound of our J than it is in Spanish, but isn't actually the same...
Depends on the accent. In Argentina ll is a soft g sound when the g follows a consonant ie more like change than Gerald. Isn't pedantry wonderful? Does anyone know how J is pronounced in Galicia?
Not sure if you were aware of it, but Johnny Todd was making an astute reference to the fact that there is no 'j' at all in the Galician language. In researching that fact, I also discovered that there's a village in Galicia called 'Burgas' - so now we also know where Troy goes on his holidays. What a day of learning this has been.
True, although Spaniards (outside of areas where they speak a regional language) struggle with the J sound as it doesn't exist in Spanish, so they use the Y sound. If you went there, they might call you Yak jajaja
I came here looking for news of a new winger and left with perfect pronunciation of the letter J in both Spanish and Portuguese.
Well, even though the local sports newspapers have been quiet about this rumour today, outlet Correio da Manhã seems very confident that the transfer could happen. They feature a short story claiming Jovane ‘is on his way out’, claiming he’s been unsatisfied with the ‘lost of protagonism’ at Sporting. The newspaper then says he ‘could’ head to England, where Watford ‘are one of the interested clubs’. Jovane’s price isn’t mentioned this time, but the winger, who had eight goals and five assists this season, is valued by Transfermarkt at €8m. However, he’s protected by Sporting with a release clause of €60m. http://sportwitness.co.uk/boost-watford-target-way-club-summer-hornets-one-interested-clubs/
