The thread is titled can we sign a proven premier league striker, and the list contains all realistic proven premier league strikers. Seems perfectly clear to me, if you don’t like it no need to visit the thread or comment on it.
There's absolutely no doubt they'll sign strikers but we need to calm down a little and wait for the window to kick in. By the look of it Watford as a club are in full swing and the window hasn't even opened let alone some of the leagues haven't finished. I could sit here and splurt out loads of names who I believe are capable of producing the goods for us but in all honesty its pointless. Firstly we need to tie up a few in the squad to contracts and ship out the carp we had posing as strikers. Admittedly Fletcher caught me off guard yesterday but I still see it as a smarter move than Murray was last season. Ok his record doesn't make the best of reading but Warnock wanted him to stay so he must see something in him during training and matches. Will he offer as much as Success, Perica, Gray and Penaranda? absolutely. His figures are better than Grays this season, is younger and a hell of a lot cheaper. Tbh they're probably better than Success and Perica. There was criticism thrown at FS and Cathcart but these two have turned out more than Ok.
No worries. The fact is if you wanted someone who has succeeded in the premiership then you only have a couple of players of note - who will probably not want to join us. Other criteria of course is allowed. Under 27 years old. Has scored 20+ goals in one season in a top league. Has a 1:x goalscoring ratio through career or for last 2 or 3 seasons. Is an international player with x caps Has scored at 1:x ratio in international games. Is not Glenn Murray.
I thought last night you maybe mis-understood my post, but I see now you're just one of those types of people. Crack on if it makes you happy.
I've already made my thoughts on strikers known in other threads. Other options to consider: Dike - Orlando/Barnsley - £14mil (though he was poor vs Swansea, I'm still a bit on the fence with him) Wind - Copenhagen - £12mil Seferovic - Benfica - £10mil Moore - Cardiff - £9mil Julis - Sparta Prague - £6mil Ugbo - Chelsea - £5mil Muani - Nantes - £4mil (we face some tough competition for him though) Kara - Rapid Wien - £4miil Braithwaite - Barca - Loan Borre - River - Free To be first choice, One of: Wind or Seferovic (or perhaps Moore or Dike subject to their form going in to the summer), Plus: Ugbo, With maybe a third wildcard option like: Kara, Borre, or Muani would do for me. I doubt we could afford to go all in for Toney, or could get him ahead of other clubs even if we could afford it. He's appeared to have gone off the boil a bit lately as well (though his link-up play has still been decent). Ajorque at Strasbourg, Guirassy at Rennes, Mavididi at Montpellier, and Armstrong at Blackburn are other options mentioned in the transfer suggestions thread who may be worth considering depending on the fee, though Ajorque seems more an option to have on the bench like Giroud is for Chelsea, and Mavididi and Armstrong may both be more suited to a left-forward position in the PL. Batshuayi is another name of strikers who have scored goals in the PL and are missing from EB Hornet's numerous lists. I'd consider him over Benteke (who could not be signed on a "loan" deal as you suggest given his contract is expiring, plus he'll no doubt go back to being crap once he's signed permanently again for someone else). I would avoid Mitrovic - I think he's a slow lump who could bring back painful memories of Deeney as well as being too expensive. Origi is the only name mentioned on the lists above who seems both feasible and worth considering, but he's already been discussed elsewhere. The fact he is also very comfortable as a left-sided forward also might leave room for another more all-round #9 to be signed. So there you go: not "a sparse set of options" at all...
Rous seething in this thread. Think it’s because someone did some analysis without a heatmap or whoscored bingo number in sight!
A lot of unpleasantness on here today. Just to save everyone some time and to calm things down a bit, whatever I say is correct and any other opinion is wrong. Hope this helps.
This picture explains it all - we've had to make a signing for the squad to fulfil the Premier League's pedotache quota. As long as he can sit quitly on the bench and avoid any bladed implements, we're golden.
It's golden. Unless I've completely misunderstood, the point of this thread isn't to say we should be signing the players on the list, it's to point out that in the "proven Premier League goalscorers" category, it's actually pretty slim pickings due to either age, wages or likely transfer fees.
Realistically we can't afford proven Premier League quality up front. Not many bottom half teams can. We need the next Chris Wood. Medium price (£15m?), some obvious strengths that trouble defenders at Prem level, and capable of 10+ goals a season. Experience in English football. Kieffer Moore type. I'd also want a striker who's shown potential and got some goals in another country. Again with one thing they do really well - finishing, or pace, or aerial power, that will be a threat. And a first touch of course, unlike some of our current crop. We won't be signing the finished product, that's for sure.
Yeah, the way I see the thread is addressing the question that people say we need a ‘proven premier league striker’ then actually looking at the ‘proven premier league strikers’ that exist and working out if signing one is actually viable or not. A pretty simple premise and one worth exploring.
Two names who have cropped up here, so I looked up their goals in the Prem and was surprised they haven’t scored more (hence why they didn’t make the original lists) Odion Ighalo 17 (267) Michy Batshuayi 15 (153) Batshuayi’s goals per mins very impressive, somewhat odd he’s not been able to kick on at Palace. His record this season is poor, but maybe due to lack of continued run in the team, plus Palace don’t exactly play an attacking brand of football and create endless chances.
Because Hornpete specifically asked me what I would rather do for signing a striker. You're pathetic. Learn to read. >>>>>>>>
Crikey, you’re very very touchy right now - spray-gunning your terrible attitude from thread to thread. Lost count of the amount of people you’ve done your best to fall out with in the past week! Most of the time totally unprovoked and reacting to people’s honest opinions or genuine questions! Learn to take a breath and stop seeing everything as a fight or argument!
Perhaps if people like you didn't pointlessly bother me with your brain-dead drivelling then there'd be no need for my wrath.
Not really, just the idiots who make completely ********, time-wasting posts like asking me a question in a snarky manner when the answer to the question is already literally right there in the post they've quoted.
Fine. You don’t think you’re argumentative the vast majority of the time and fall out with an inordinate amount of people on a regular basis. You’re wrong. But fine. Enjoy your Sunday.
How was it wrong? You literally asked me a ********, time-wasting snarky question where the answer was already in the post you were quoting. Why should I care about falling out with certain people that are so prone to making such pathetic, bone-headed comments at me? It hardly seems much of a loss.
You don’t think you post a far higher amount of argumentative/abusive/bitchy comments than anyone else? Normally just because they disagree with you and hold a different opinion! I’d say you’re wrong about that as it’s been evidenced all this week. It always descends into ‘you’re pathetic’ or ‘give yourself a gold badge’ because you can’t keep it in check or just say ‘fair enough’ when someone doesn’t agree with you - or posts something you don’t share an opinion on. You disagree with the above, that’s fine. But as I say, the evidence has been clear over the last couple of weeks that you love to engage in that behaviour, however much you claim it ‘bothers’ you. If you find it that offensive, whack people on ignore. I actually highly value your input on players etc and enjoy reading it, hence why I find it puzzling when you do it!
You literally just picked the argument with me in this thread to begin with by making your moronic, unnecessary, snarky comment.
Yeah, according to LouOrns, they were hounded off there due to a bad attitude when no-one listened to their stupid transfer suggestions or gave a damn about their copy and pasted stats from other websites. Obviously, no connection to the one on here. Obviously.
