Missed this as not as "active" on here as I once was. Echo TuT's message, how's he doing?

Best wishes ZZ and hope you're well on the road to recovery mate.

I’ve often said it would be interesting to see occasional lists of posters who hadn’t posted/visited for say 3 or 6 months but had regularly posted before that. Some lose interest of course. Many familiar names from a few years back have disappeared as posters. Always concerning when a regular poster like ZZ suddenly stops posting with no warning.

Yeah very true. @Malteser2 has been around but doesn't post often right now, Rookery Dad is still around. @The girl in row H was pretty regular as well. I understand people are busy, there are other forums as well others belong too. Sometimes just lurking get's a member the info, posting is never required. We probably get more guests each matchday over members - but that's still a really good stat. When I was a member of the offical forum on the WFC website you had some right oddballs. I think one was called "Major" or something like that. Pretty sure @Chewitt was a Mod? It was a long time ago now.

Yes it would have been 2003/4 when the official WFC Forum was suddenly pulled, something to do with a certain centre forward if I remember correctly!

Nah, the official website forum went in about late 2006 or early 2007. I joined here in 2006 (almost 17 years ago now!!) just before the official forum shut it doors. It was a little bit tumble weeds on here initially, then when the official board closed this place took off.

I echo thoughts on here too hoping ZZ is getting on ok.

Do any offical club sites even include forums now? I think almost all are unoffically created using forum software which gives a template and tools to create something like this one. There is a huge difference between "paid" and "freeware" though. Domain names have to paid for (monthky) and traffic is not tracked with a free version. WIX is a popular startup for newbies but it does so much hand-holding they more or less make the whole thing for you. If your any good at coding in PHP or JavaScript you can write the backend and frontend yourself for extra features and security.

Yes I think it's possible with most posters to see "last seen on x" data so you know someone is fine but found something better to do with their time. Maybe interesting to see a list of posters who've not been on the site for 6 months rather than a list who've not posted, or both ? I'd have thought all useful info for the forum owner (one of us but we don't know who) to try to check on / retain his/her customer base. Perhaps a few "Welcome back" offers like "Be a Moog poster for a day" "50 free likes" "block any poster you like from posting for 48 hrs" etc etc :D

Don't think so, would mean they'd have to moderate it which I imagine most clubs don't want the hassle of doing/organising.

Don't start giving the Admin ideas about promoting Moog to an even more elevated status! :p Actually I thought we came to the conclusion that we are all one of his logins? But in the words of Slim Shady, will the real Moog please stand up?

Surely they could just outsource and pay a handful of moderators £30k a year like they do on this forum ?

I was never on the official forum, I was on BWL, which was a hoot. I think a number of people here were on that forum, when rivals.net got bought out it slowly died and eventually closed. I did then register an account on Glory Horns but I never posted on there; I first came across this forum in 2012 during the takeover but didn't register until the summer of 2014.

This has been posted somewhere else previously but this place opened in September 2006 and the official club forums, (shudder), closed suddenly in November 2006.

That means that this forum is able to apply for it's provisional driving license this September.

It was the mythical Marlon King chip shop fight that was the final straw for the club if I remember correctly.

I think the whole rivals.net set-up got excessively sanitised after that buy-out and the fun went with it. The infamous Friday invasions of other clubs' rivals.net boards, the increasingly virulent spats with pseudo-Yank boards, the at times sheer anarchy of some of the threads....but apparently some clubs' fans took it all WAY too seriously. Compared to just about every forum now, BWL was like the Wild West. The sc*m's 'Outlaws' boeard can be a bit like that, but they've taken the whole Wild West vibe way too far by actually using a 19th century format.

I got a life ban from Sheffield Wednesday's rivals board but I think we all did. I wasn't on BWL when that lovers' spat made the national news though, I can't even remember what it was all about.

    Right.

Given the prevalence of free/low cost hosting options nowadays, along with services like Reddit and Discord, why take on the cost and the potential legal issues? In the early days of the internet it made sense, but we're long past that now.
