I would say clap. His departure may of been drawn out and yes he did have an offer to stay which was rejected, but overall he was a decent player for us in the middle and played well in
our promotion season after we switched to 433. Nothing against him as a footballer and he cared during his time here unlike Richarlison.

What I’m reading from this is boo one half, and clap the other. Or one handed clap while booing.

Or maybe a few "golf claps" with a slight shrug of the shoulders.

Neither! He was a decent player for us, but chose to leave when offered the chance to stay.

Therefore I think we should just treat him like any other opposition player and basically ignore him unless he does something to get our backs up, if that happens we should boo the **** out of him.

Shouldn't this be discussed rather in the Palace preview thread?

If he plays the same formation as Villa we'll win comfortably. Watford 3-0 Palace

If we goes back to his dreary 4 central midfielders nonsense we'll lose. Watford 0-1 Palace

    I hope Zaha cries.

I will boo anyone who claps him and clap anyone who boos him.

I myself however will make mooing sounds whenever he is in possession and bleat like a sheep whenever he plays a pass. That should get the point across.

I know this is a joke so it's not at all in direct response to the thread or poster, but the mere idea that there is a consideration of booing him (which I have seen conjectured seriously on Twitter, for example) really just shows how stupid vast swathes of modern football fans are, and how meaningless it all is - including the act of booing, itself.

Hardly 'modern', is it? Used to happen when I were a lad. Possibly not in the 1930s.

We'll have to notice him to boo or clap him, which might be a task because he's so pale

In all seriousness, I don't really feel like booing or clapping him, he was a player who did well for us for a time, and then wanted out (in all fairness, probably justifiably given the shambolic state of the club!), it's not as if he's a club legend, but it's also not as if he shat on the GT statue and went to L*ton neither (not that there's any love lost between us and the stripey Nigels!)

It's not the concept of booing that I'm talking about though, is it? I'm talking about this specific context/instance, and how I believe it reflects on a certain section of modern fans and their 'culture'.

I’m not sure I get you then. Is there more “context” than just booing a player who used to play for your club?

Well, if you're saying it's normal (for some people) to boo literally any player who used to play for their club and no longer does, for no other reason than that, then I'm surprised and that's not my experience - my point is that some people debate whether it's right to boo a player at all, and fine, I'm not opining on that here, but to take it to the other extreme in this case is just patently ridiculous - we as Watford fans have literally no reason to boo him whatsoever.

He was always entirely professional, played for us in the Prem for several years, and was a key figure in getting us promoted last season and saving the club from some degree of financial oblivion.

If a Watford fan boos him, they're essentially removing any meaning whatsoever from the concept of booing a player, and making themselves look pathetic to boot.

i agree about Hughes. But I think fans have always booed former players. Generally it doesn’t mean much, it’s just theatre. I’m pretty sure I have been at matches where players have been booed throughout and then applauded off at the end.

Didn't want to play for PE teacher Xisco or stay at this circus any longer despite us offering him good money, why on earth would we boo him?
