Completely forgot Chalobah and Cleverley too. I reckon between 1-3 goals for each.

I agree an inform pereyra and deulofeu could grab between 5-10. I was being pessimistic with my projections to show that we still have goals in this team.

I can't recall exact number but Foster had a huge number of assists in our promotion season under Aidy.

That may have been the case, the only one I remember off the top of my head was King's opener in the Playoff semi at Palace.

Foster's accuracy and Gray's speed and the fact that you can't be offside from a goal kick is going to be a constant threat.

Not sure about direct assists, but there were numerous goals scored from him pinging it for Henderson to lay it off

Your name really is an aptronym if you being 'very pessimistic' sees Deeney scoring more than 10 goals!

By accident, I pushed some random button on my phone & got the first ever threads from Sept 2006.

Number seven was a Ben Foster one, stating that our league position didn’t reflect the quality of the squad.

Would our correspondents agree that that, 12 years on, is still the case?

I looked on my 'phone to see if I had any of those. As far as I can work out they're all random. There is, of course, the tiny possibility that it's just me.
Too early to answer your question. There are other reasons, but one of the reasons managers/coaches like playing in leagues is the feeling that, over an entire season, you finish up in more or less the deserved place. Cup matches are like pressing the random button (I'll never forget Sunderland knocking us out of the League Cup, the same season as we had already beaten them 8 - 0) .
'After 20 games the tables don't lie', etc.

I also think this ( Fitter Deeney ) will score quite a few this season . Ultimately 4.4.2 is going to give both attackers more goals for obvious reasons .

If Gray can get some goals early on his form will peak and hopefully last most season .

We have plenty of quality in midfield for feeding both strikers .
Decent new defenders could be better but I think could be solid .

I also think Success will supersize a few people this season and put away about 7 if given enough games.

He’s only got 2 games left in August and the last 2 games May . Needs to get a move on.

We still could have benefited from a third forward option, especially as we are playing 2 up top. But... If Deeney stays fit it seems he may have his mojo back. I'd imagine he'll score 10+ and also rejuvinate Gray. Plus Doucs, Hughes, Capoue, Gerard and others know where the net is.

Well, you've made an excellent start in the quest for 7th or better (helped by our generosity).
I suppose to finish 7th, you could follow the Burnley model....sell Andre Gray for £18 million to a rival PL club and your 2nd best central defender (Cathcart?) to Everton for £30 million....and replace them with cheaper Championship players.:)

Has Holebas been stood down now he has fulfilled his quota?

Sema, Clevs & OG look the least likely.
