In this thread we’ll be looking at popular items and deciding which is the most cool.

    Would you rather have a,

    Sit down lawn mower?
    Robot lawn mower?

A sit down mower is great, but becomes pathetic if you don’t have a big enough lawn to justify it. A robot mower just strikes me as gimmicky. I have neither.

If you had a friend who also had a sit down mower surely you could have some races? That would be cool as would remapping the motor for a bit more whooomph.

But having a robot mower would give you a luvverly lawn always with eff all effort. Who wouldn’t feel smug in those circumstances? A freshly mowed lawn is a beautiful thing.

    Robot lawn mower.

You’re clearly doing something right if you have an area of grass big enough to justify a ride on lawn mower, still seems a shame to have to waste time doing it. They just don’t look cool either, looks like a man (and they are only for men, women are far too sensible) sat on a kiddy toy.

Also, I nearly took my finger off a couple of weeks ago with a strimmer so **** all manual garden tools.

Ride on mower, but it has to be one of those beaten up ex-council ones to be cool

Robot lawnmowers are not cool especially if next doors cat has shat on the lawn

Ride on mower every time. Covers a lot of space and put it on the mulch setting and there are no cutting to collect. Takes me 20 mins and i don't burn a calorie :). In fact i have been known to finish a beer while I'm doing it. We have an odd shape garden with flimsy borders so if we sent out a robot mower, we would never see it again.

When we moved in to our house the previous owner left his ride-on mower. Unfortunately Mrs Lloyd insisted I got rid of it after I allowed our nephew drive it. Admittedly he was aged about 3 at the time, but he was enjoying himself. I've been breaking my back with a push-along petrol driven piece of junk that weighs a bleeding tonne ever since

    Neither.

Mister manor's lushious putting green is lovingly striped by manual push cylinder mover. Nothing cooler than that.

My mate was a millionaire shrimp boat owner who had bought Apple stock right at the start, so was minted. He had a wife who'd left him but came back with AIDS.

Anyway, he had a ride on mower.

Ha ha! Excellent!! Who's going to write the next line??!! I'll start us off...

He had a wife who'd left him but came back with AIDS. Anyway, he had a ride on mower.

One morning , after another sleepless night spent listening to his wife sniffing, he made his way to the out-building where he kept the one thing in life that had never let him down - his Mountfield T38 SuperGlide Ride-On Deluxe - when suddenly...

Did Jenny actually have AIDS? Always assumed cancer.

Anyway, if something is being described as cool, then by definition it can’t be. I think the latest word a decade or so back was ‘sick’, god knows what it is now.

The correct answer is a Robot driving a ride on lawnmower.

I seem to remember that’s how @The Voice of Reason wanted the 19/20 season settled if it was curtailed.

She had a virus and the doctors didn't know what it was. Given that it wsd 1982 and the way the movie surfs all the cultural and historically significant events of the era, plus Jenny's lifestyle, it's pretty likely to be AIDS.

Possibly, but given the way he cruised through the dangers of the 20th century, I'm sure he's fine.

    No death sentence these days.

And that’s top thread digression. Some may have doubted the wisdom of a lawn mowing based thread, but surely it’s been vindicated?

World’s fastest lawn mower. Let Jason explain.

200hp. 0-60 in 3 seconds. Also cuts grass.

Definitely a sit down - it’s the nearest I get to getting non-driving Mr HH behind the wheel. It amuses me to see him “driving” and he has a nice time listening to the radio while he does it.

Post does rather conjure up the image of someone who would enjoy a sitting in a car in a shopping centre powered by a 50p.

I’m sure this was not the intention.

AIDS was already known and identified by 1982, so I don't think it was likely to be that.

I always assumed it was Hepatitis C, since that wasn't medically identified until around the late 80s/early 90s. Given her implied lifestyle I think it probably fits.

Ha! Nope - he didn’t get his licence at 17 and then lived in Cambridge then London, where he didn’t need to drive. By the time we moved out of London, he was in his 30s and I think he had lost any desire to learn. It does have its advantages - we are well known to all the local cab drivers and they all look after us very well as a result.
