Kits ok. Sponser is another abhorrent betting organisation, this time with the added bonus of not even being real money.

I wont buy that crap for my kids (or myself).

It’s another step towards crypto being adopted by the masses. You may see it as cultish but we see it as the future and freedom of the unbanked. Watford obviously do too.

It's certainly very bad for the environment, which is not particularly good for the unbanked, and it's also seemingly open to plenty of types of abuse/fraud, no matter how much people cream over the idea of a blockchain.

Watford making this partnership is absolutely 100% about the highest bidder - there's no way they actually even have an institutional position on cryptocurrency.

Joke’s really on them. They’ve paid loads of money to be associated with an absolutely rubbish football team.

We’ll be repeatedly humiliated this season irrespective of the kit or sponsor, and their name will become synonymous with anguish and failure. We might as well milk every penny out of it.

Why is there no way they have a position on crypto? Most corporations do, or at least starting to. For people that aren’t into it or not aware what crypto this, this could be a huge move by the club to gain financial stability for years to come.

Odd post. You do know Bitcoin is up 200% & Eth is up 500% for the year and that is in the current bear market. Sorry you hit an age where you don’t like making money. Good luck with your money in 0.1% current accounts.

Anyway, I’ll stop on the crypto and leave it for football chat only

    Kit is growing on me
    Still not 100% on hoops
    Sponsor way too big though
On the payment in crypto I think that could be very shrewd on behalf of the club given where the crypto markets are right now and depending on which crypto they were paid in. Its interesting seeing some peoples opinions on it "magic money" "terrible for environment" etc I think it shows despite how far crypto has come there's still huge adoption to go.

Come on, you know they chose the sponsor because they’re paying £5m up front and nothing else. We’re also partnered with Afex who are a deliverable FX company, which is completely at odds with crypto, 99.9% of deliverable FX companies won’t/can’t deal with anything remotely related to anything crypto from a regulatory point of view, so the clubs stance if they have one is somewhat confusing then, no? Crypto is way too volatile for businesses to adopt as a means of payment or receipt, whether Watford have a stance on it is kind of irrelevant really, do you see them suddenly starting to demand transfer fees in crypto if no other club is?

It's not about the use for payment I think that's a long way off but a large proportion of companies are either holding or considering holding on their balance sheet as an asset and especially a hedge against inflation. Depending on the coin they could stake it and earn 5-12% too

I remember the Geordies being up in arms about it when it was 'enforced' for the first time (Puma kit? - I'll ask them)... If it's not the PL could it be UEFA or even FIFA?

Well yeah, or they could buy Tesla or Amazon shares and so on. I’ve no idea if the club have a treasury department but if they do they may well decide to invest some in Bitcoin, but only some, they would be mad to put too much in as any treasury department would with any investment. But I think that’s a different thing to what you were originally suggesting, especially as they also have a partner who kind of do the antithesis to the future and the freedom of the unbanked.

But ultimately they paid us £5m up front.

I don't understand cryptocurrency and have therefore chosen to view it as a passing fad, much like MySpace and fidget spinners.

It's a good question actually can a club such as ours afford to have 5m invested/tied up (in any asset class)
Let's say btc goes to 100k in the next 8-10 months that would mean a 5m becomes 15m give or take and that's huge for us. Or do we need the injection of 5m now given our latest financial reports, impact of pandemic, season in champo etc etc

I'd be curious to know what they will do with it they could of course just 'cash it out' for GBP and then absorb it as normal into the day to day finances

Either way 5m upfront is always a good deal regardless and the sponsor is still too big!

Watford don't see it as the future they just got offered enough money. The pozzos probably worked out they could dodge tax ID we got paid in crypto.

I'll go let the homeless people in the street know they can worry no longer. Now they can just open a crypto account with stake and pay rent/get a job that way.

I didn’t realise they were actually paid the £5m in BTC? But even so, it’s no different to being paid in stock which is pretty common in takeover situations etc. It’s then up to the individual to weigh up their attitude to risk, liquidate and take all the risk off the table immediately, liquidate some, or none and so on. I’d imagine Watford would’ve converted to GBP pretty much immediately, but who knows, again it depends on whether they have a treasury department and how good they are/their attitude to risk.

I don’t know if anyone else is of this view, but a fit Deeney would be like a new signing.

What's this about Leventhal saying you can request a sponsorless shirt? I want that GK one a lot but I'm not having that Stake **** all over it.

Given we are potless we will need the £5m in GBP now. Will cover some of the black hole caused by the Pussetto farce.
