    Match Preview
    Anybody still there?

HMS Piss the League is listing to starboard after first springing a leak in after the team announcement for the game against Middlesbrough back in September. Not many are left on board now, valiantly hoping the leaky ship magically repairs itself soon. Which is a shame as I pulled out the stops for this week's preview and hired Emma Saunders and Co. to host a special preview show just for us! Check out this not-at-all-hastily-put-together-show-that-I-hoped-would-turn-out-a-lot-better-than-it-did:

    Thanks Emma :)

Opponents this time are the slightly underwhelming Bristol City, who have established themselves as neither brilliant nor rubbish in the last few years. Managed by Dean Holden, Bristol City currently sit quite low on the form table, having lost 4 of their last 6 games. Their last game was a two-nil home defeat against their neighbours Cardiff City, who sit even lower in the form table than the Robins.

Bristol City's defence doesn't seem too bad, with Mawson and Kalas doing a decent enough job. Mariappa seems to have played at left back against Cardiff, perhaps a sign of their defensive situation and current injuries. It also appears to be a shift in playing to a 4-3-3, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that change, especially away from home at The Vic.

Goals have mostly come from Nakhi Wells and Famara Diédhiou, with 6 goals each. Jamie Paterson and Andreas Weimann have 5 between them, and the rest picking up the scraps. A bit like Watford, not many sources of goals, but they do at least seem to have strikers capable of putting them in.

Former Hornets playing for the Robins these days include Henri Lansbury, Adrian Mariappa, Andreas Weimann and Rene Gilmartin. Weimann picked up an injury back in October-time, and has been out since. In fact, the Robins appear to be inflicted by a number of injuries which may, in part, explain why they've not been able to creep into the playoffs despite a fairly poor Championship this season. Sessegnon, Weimann, DaSilva, Rowe and many others all appear to be injured. With the Robins still to play an FA Cup game against Sheff Utd on Wednesday, that injury/unfit list could grow even more.

    wells_famara.png
    Wells (left) and Diédhiou (right)

It was late November when the two sides last met, with Bristol up around 3rd at that point. There will be at least two changes in our line-up from that November fixture, as both Garner and Quina are no longer at the club. This is how we lined up last time out:

    Foster
    Ngakia -- Kabasele -- Cathcart -- Femenía

    Sarr -- Chalobah -- Garner -- Quina

    Gray -- João Pedro

And this is how it went. If you want to watch highlights of a 0-0 draw, knock yourself out.

I can see Watford winning, but not with a convincing performance. Whilst I'm hoping for some inspired change in how we play, I don't see where that is going to come from.

    Trivia:
13/2/21 will be Jerry Springer's 77th Birthday. It also marks the day that Catherine Howard (Henry VIII's 5th wife) was executed.
John Cleese and Jenson Button are both Bristol City fans supposedly. As is Baldrick from Blackadder according to random websites.

    Head-to-Head:
Watford have a bit of catching up to do still, with the Robins getting 8 more wins than Watford, dating all the way back to 1923.

Played them twice in the 17-18 season, first in a rather bog standard early season League Cup tie which had quite big ramifications, they got all the way to the semi-finals beating Stoke, us, Palace and famously United along the way. As for us, Holebas got sent off, which meant Britos was forced to play left-back against Brighton...and you know the rest. Seem to recall that Cathcart was brought on half-fit to plug that gap and ended up exacerbating his injury so much that we didn't see him for about 6 months after that

Drew them again in the FA Cup that season, unusually perhaps for a Premier League vs EFL tie, we took it a lot more seriously, with them resting players for their League Cup and promotion attempts

Firstly great opening post 99mph Thank You.

Have to say not looking forward to this one I am going to watch it just out of curiosity to see if anything actually does change I won't be paying for it until I have seen the line up though if it is 4-4-2 and Gray is starting I will be watching the rugby instead.

Duxbury and Ashton to have a bare chested, bare knuckle scrap on the centre circle at half time to determine who's more of a charlatan.

This is a simple game. Will Xisco have learnt anything from our bore draw and should of lost Coventry game? Will he actually realise Gray needs leaving on the Sofa, giving Pedro a start, starting Zinc at minute one, playing Hughes in the centre and getting tubby to not walk on the centre circle like a slug? Oh, and I hope to god he has been working on a new formation this week.

If he can do all those things, we have a chance. Gray should be nowhere near this team. Chuck Dalby, Hungbo and Philips on the bench. Lose this one he is gone. I don't think half of what I have mentioned will happen though.

Fantastic write up @99mph loved the video.

    3-3

Xisco is already fired. Replacement will be in by next Monday. Xisco knows this, the players know this, everyone at the club knows this.

We will lose, Xisco will play Gray up front, Navarro will play LB as a big up yours.

    Watford 0-4 Bristol City.

It's not rocket science......is it? This is a promotion winning team FFS!!

Deeney: 1 goal from open play in 1257 (that's the equivalent of 14 games folks. Deeney, our 'God', captain fantastic, Mr Watford).

Deeney's natural role is on the hot dog stand being paid in kind.

That video is superb. More effort has gone in to that than the coaching in the past month or so.

They've got Marriappa at left back and numerous injuries. 2-0 Bristol.

I use Adobe Premiere for my video work, it's expensive though. If you want to dive in, I'd say get DaVinci Resolve. It's similar but free and excellent for beginners. There are hundreds and hundreds of training videos on YouTube.

It's time consuming but you won't care as it's a hell of a lot of fun. I'd imagine 99mph spent most of his time laughing making that video.

Funnily enough, I used DaVinci Resolve for this video. I used to use Adobe Premiere until Adobe discovered that my copy of Premiere wasn't entirely licensed... I switched to DaVinci Resolve and love it so far, especially as it's free and I'm not risking malware by running dodgy software. Occasionally I'll come across something that is easier to do, or better, in Premiere (e.g. stabilisation) but it's great for my very limited video editing stuff.

I watched several videos in order to get the show's format and listen for potentially out-of-place soundbites, then used a website that strips out the YouTube auto-generated subtitles for each video and dumped all of them into a giant Word file (100+ pages). Then Control+F for certain words or sounds that I wanted, find where it is in the original video and cut it out to put in Resolve. Sometimes the subtitles are wonky, like someone saying "Ismaila Sarr" is subtitled as "Isma Assad". There is also an occasion where Robert Page uses the word 'Impotence' . I checked to see whether he actually said 'Importance' or 'Impetus' in the video. I'm pretty sure he said Impotence (7:01).

I could probably do an entire video on the Bake-Off esque innuendos, like I snuck in at the end of that video. But it would mostly be at Emma's expense and I reckon that would come across more creepy than funny.

I did have laugh when doing it, mostly saying "haha, this is so ****", as I was comparing it to people like Cassetteboy who are masters at this stuff. I have a new-found respect for what he does.

It was top notch work. I would genuinely rather watch that clip on a loop for 90 minutes than watch the match.

It's the best thing to come out of the season so far.

Funnily enough, that was quite watchable despite people saying how dull it was, better than some "highlights" on MotD, although on the whole (I didn't see the game) it looks like another negative Watford away performance with us lucky to win.

I like the commentators, who are they? I'd be tempted to subscribe to Hive Live on the basis of them if we weren't so boring to watch.
