I am a fan of the humble nut. It's my beer snack of choice. But which nut is best? There's only one way to find out, poll!

Add any I've missed and yes I know a peanut is not technically a nut.

I'm voting cashew but may change my mind. A good chilli or wasabi crispy coated peanut or decent quality pistacio runs it close. There's also the process of cracking open shelled nuts at Xmas which adds to the experience.

Also wet walnuts available around November are superb.

Cashews are the devil's skin discards...horrible things.

In Italy at Xmas, hazelnuts are roasted in shell in flour and it's a small taste of heaven.

No "honey roasted cashew" choice ?
You've also split the Peanut vote but not included a "salt'n'vinegar" option.
    ...so I'm out.

I'm a huge nut fan and would happy scoff all on the list apart from Brazil nuts. But the king of nuts can only be the macadamia, hands down. They are very expensive, which is a good thing, because I restrict myself to a pack every few now and then - but after such a long wait, they taste heavenly!

btw. Random fact: The humble banana is in fact, a herb.

Impossible question as different nuts for different occasions:
    With a drink - peanuts/dry roasted peanuts/cashews/pistachios
Trying to be healthy and eating unsalted and without alcohol - walnuts/almonds/cashews
    At Christmas - chocolate Brazils

Dry roasted peanuts with a cold beer.

That’s pretty much the height of contentment for me.

For day to day snacking, cashews or pistachios.

Walnuts are great in cakes and salads but are possibly the worst food for getting stuck in your teeth.

The greatest nut is, of course, the filbert.

It's a sick joke that god these snacks, that are full of cholesterol (esp macas), fat, calories, and salt, so bloody tasty and addictive. I daren't have them in the house. I can't put them down and they're the main reason I reached 15 stone before cutting them out and dropping back down to 13 which is about right for 6ft 3. Little b******s.

Not a clue! I think there’s four; Walnut, Brazil, Hazel and Filbert.

I think Filberts and Hazelnuts are the same thing, so whichever Victorian was responsible wasn’t very imaginative.

The cashew 'nut' grows underneath the cashew fruit, which is widely eaten in Brazil. If it's not ripe, it has that effect of turning your mouth inside out, it's so dry and sour.

The nut is expensive, because so few of them grow on each tree.

I have visited the largest cashew tree in the world, in North Eastern Brazil.

    I love cashews.

Control your weight by eating only one healthy nut a day ... I recommend the sea coconut - coco der mer.

She’s (very!) happily modelling the male and, ahem, the female components, but paradoxically the female bit is a double nut.
