According to Burnsy, Watford can and are coaching the flaws out of him. You would have read a very similar report on Bachmann 3 or 4 yrs ago. He hasn't changed and he will not change. We can only hope that the opposition are too dumb and fail to cross the ball or win any corners. At whatever the level of football, if you have a Keeper who is afraid to command his 6yd box then you have nervous defenders. You have to trust that your Keeper will take man and ball once it reaches the 6 yd box. Bachmann does not want to come off his line. We have loads of Keepers on our books, so all is not lost.
That literally is not what I said. Is there any wonder people don’t take your opinions seriously when you consistently misrepresent what they say? It wasn’t even hard to follow this time and you still got it wrong.
We do but we can only play one at a time, so if none of them are any good it really doesn't help that we have half a dozen knocking around.
Eh? Read your post again: "The signing of Okoye aside, we benched and alienated the keeper who would go on to be our #1 the next season whilst letting Ben Foster who was never renewing run down his days as #1. It’s not the biggest of deals but just shows the complete disjointed thinking up at board level" You tried to blame Ranieri and Hodgson choosing Ben Foster on the board. You weren't talking about Okoye, you even said "the signing of Okoye aside" in the post I replied to.
Yes. Because pointing out your lack of basic understanding and reading skills is a ‘swerve’. Sure. And now I see you’re back to your ‘Does it matter, let’s see, it’s just a forum, time will tell’ schtick. Would have been far better to just admit you don’t know understand what a ‘coach’ does.
Wow! Someone has thrown his dummy out. I remember you insulting me before over my opinion/comments on this forum. It didn't work then and it will not work now.
Nope. Just don’t like people who incorrectly quote me when debating with others. I never once said ‘Watford can and are coaching the errors out him (Bachmann)’. I couldn’t have been clearer about that given it was said to you in very basic terms. You’re comment was ‘you can’t coach that out of him’ - which shows you don’t have a fundamental understanding of what coaching even means. Do I rate the player? No. But likewise, his national side, Ajax, Arsenal, Man Utd and his new manager all do (or have) over the last 12-18 months - and I suspect they have a grip over his abilities better than you or I. I think he has fundamental flaws in his game - but I also know he’s 28 so has another 10 years left in him as a GK, so plenty of time for a more settled coaching approach to improve him. I’m not saying it will happen, I’m saying it can happen - because again, that’s what coaching literally is. A lot of the stuff you say is fairly mythical and never really backed up - where are these reports from 4 years ago about Bachmann? Where are these links that Sparta fans didn’t rate Okoye? Where are the reports that we were already in talks to keep him in Holland this season?
Hope the coaches get cracking as I haven’t been this nervous watching a keeper since Simon Sheppherd!
Personally I think it's a good idea for Okoye to grow into British football, see how Championship games are played. I believe he will be number 1 later in the season. Imagine if we started him and he was taken by surprise by the speed and aggression, he might lose his confidence and have to be benched . This way he can grow into the team and what's required of him.
Yes, from the Latin 'botellus' for sausage. Basically people get the poison from a rancid sausage injected into their face. Sent from my SM-S908B using Tapatalk
Yes it’s disjointed and awful thinking all round. For the board to sign a player for £5m in the middle of a season like it was absolutely vital we didn’t miss out, who’s not better than Bachman, who’s not very good himself and was pissed off and alienated last year, it’s shyte let’s be honest. Ranieri and Hodgson had to pick the options in front of them, I for one thought it was okay as a new number 1 was coming in. Yet that number 1 is now supposedly no better than our old number 2. I’m pretty sure I even saw quotes from some club official about how good Okoye is and he’s our new number 1 bla bla.
It's a good job that the club have 'improved comms' and effectively pimped out Hassane Kamara to the WD18 lads - I'd be extremely worried otherwise.
So the new #1 becomes #2. Brilliant. Perhaps there is a case to be said for "bedding in"? Bachmann knows the Championship well, but it doesn't help when he is weighted down to the goal line.
Sorry mate but you're lost. Your original post that I replied to specifically spoke aside from the Okoye signing. You criticised the board, for Bachmann being number 2 last season. As for the actual signing of Okoye, do you actually think the club signed him thinking "yes, he's worse than Bachmann"? Or do you think they signed him thinking he was better than Bachmann, capable of being our Number 1, and also, at 22, capable of improving? Edwards deciding after a few weeks that he initially wants Bachmann starting has nothing to do 'disjointed and awful thinking' at board level last season
Perfect opportunity to have brought him over in January then so he could acclimatise to the English game - if that was a genuine concern. At this juncture, whilst it has scope to improve, it looks like an odd transfer that’s been dealt with badly.
I did criticise the board, because whilst team selections lie with the Head Coach, better planning and a better environment breeds things like loyalty and happiness. We signed a new goalkeeper in the middle of the year and declared him our new number 1 saying a signing in that position was a priority. That same signing hasn’t kicked a ball and is already our number 2. Don’t you think that has an impact on the relationship between club & Bachman? Maybe I’m being naive but I feel like we’re awful at building relationships with players, we don’t build environments in which they feel anything for the club and I think erratic squad planning like this has a part to play.
Sorry, when did we publicly announce that Okoye would be our new number 1? And is the ego of Dan Bachmann so fragile that we aren't allowed to sign promising players in his position in case he gets upset? Maybe signing decent competition has motivated him, as a professional athlete, to up his game, and that impressed Edwards in training?
0-0 for the Under 23s at Hitchin. Up front was Ashley Fletcher... Cannot even score against a team in the lower reaches of non-league!
