I always looked at us style playoffs as a substitute for promotion/relegation. If you fail to make playoffs, you’ve been effectively relegated from getting the cup. I do enjoy all the variations in league setup you see around the world. Mexico has the apertura and clausura, which Japan does a version of too. Anyway, no matter how good an idea may be, I can’t see the FA tampering significantly with the English football ecosystem at this point.
Oh good grief, you really don’t help yourself do you. Pub footballers that won countless league titles and champions league titles between them? When Liverpool/Chelsea/Utd we’re winning champions league titles a decade or so back with the likes of Gerard Lampard etc. That didn’t count then? “there are very few things I enjoy in life than seeing an English team winning the champions leagues” That didn’t apply when it was the “pub footballers” repeatedly winning it then? The premier league is much stronger now because we’re winning champions leagues, but back when we were winning champions leagues… it wasn’t?? The success of the national team has nothing to do with the Premier league it’s what the FA did with st George’s park and the whole NFC a decade back. You can trace the success of the current England team back through all their relevant youth teams and their successes at that level. The reason for the failure of the golden generation is well documented, they hated each other due to club rivalries because they were preoccupied with competing for leagues and champions leagues at club level with each other. And you mention Bellingham who came from Birmingham and had never played in the Premier League lol.
