Just when we seems to be heading back to normality with Covid still being a threat but being able to handle it, we get something new to worry about. Monkey Pox.

30 cases already in the UK? Seriously? I mean I know we have a capable vaccine and it clears up and goes away in a few weeks (the milder strain anyway), but it does give me a terrible fear this is going to be Covid all over again. Face masks, lockdowns, isolation, NHS backlog, society brought to a halt, government briefings from HQ every day and toilet roll and bread grabbing.

Am I just over-reacting? It, as the moment, doesn't look as bad a Covid was/is, I really hope we are not going to fall into the same trap of doing nothing again till we suddenly have thousands of cases and the dreaded word of "lockdown" is muttered from Boris's mouth in a dimly lit room with the Union Jack at half mast. I thought I could get on with my life with a sense of normality again - now we this to worry about AND the threat (however unlikely) of WW3 breaking out (small, but still not totally unavoidable). Plus, the media are loving this new "threat" something new to write about.

I hope this new virus clears up and buggers off a lot faster than it took us to begin living with Covid as another virus with capable medical care.

The media are only covering it as much as they are because they seem to be trying to find something to replace covid with. Doesn’t seem anything to remotely worry about from what I’ve read.

I noticed that on the BBC news last night. Seems like the same correspondents, using the same sort of graphics, with the same sort of vox pops lined up etc. It's like they've got collective withdrawal symptoms and this is respite for them!

From what I have read Skyla I wouldnt be too worried.
It is much less infective and much less worrying in terms of morbidity and mortality than Covid. We have a reasonably effective vaccination in the form of the smallpox vacc.
The experts feel it can be contained with usually outbreak measures.

There are a few thousand cases of TB each year in the UK and various other communicable illnesses and we dont all get worried about that

I think the press are understandably perhaps over playing it

Get on with you life, just dont hug anyone with monkey pox and itll be fine

It can be caught from coughs and sneezes from those infected but much less infective than covid.
The main way it is spread is through contact with infected animals and to a lesser extent people with it.

Monkey pox is less worrying than a couple of new strains of "you-know-what" that have recently been identified.

Trying to control the masses through fear. The same way they did COVID. I think people have wised up to their antics now. Well I hope anyway.....

I dont think all news media would bother trying to control us. Why bother. Much more likely to be doing it just so more people watch/view.

Although we already have a vaccine and it probably is being blown out of proportion to make news, this thread does read an awful lot like the first couple of pages of the Covid thread...

This morning I leapt on to my car bonnet and pulled off the windscreen wipers. This is very out of character. Could it be a symptom?

There’s a story, they reported it. All seems very calm to me.

But you and others also seem to have withdrawal symptoms and need to give the old scepticism a run out. :)

Similar vocal symptoms may be occasioned by lowering oneself slowly into a very hot bath. But that is not monkeypox.
