The 16 yr old has expressed an interest in giving “The Walking Dead” a go. I know there a few on here who have watched it over the years. Is the consensus to give it a go? I see that it’s eleven seasons .

I watched the first four or five. Loved the horror but the story and some the characters just lost me.

Is 16 year old used to horror? It’s very gory, incredibly bleak and uncomfortably tense. Some of the scenes in it, while brilliantly done, could really stick with someone who can’t brush it off. Claustrophobic, nasty stuff at times.

Thanks. Yes, my daughter’s very used to horror - it doesn’t seem to faze her at all. It will probably be me who has an issue with it rather than her!

I’m sure she’ll be fine with it. Do let us know what you make of it if you do watch any with her :D I seem to recall it chucking you in at the deep end.

I really like the first couple of series, just lost interest but personally I do that with a lot of stuff. I loved the setting and the sense of unease, really creepy.

It’s a fantastic show up to and including part of the Negan story but then it absolutely falls off a cliff and becomes unwatchable. But part of the Negan story is amongst some of the best and most disturbing TV I’ve ever seen. The inherent problem in the end is that the story lines just repeat because there are only so many times they can find safety and lose it again, plus of course the Americans like to milk a cash cow bone dry wile it’s making money.

That's a definite "no" to me watching it then. I still get bothered by a zombie film I watched when I was 14 and I'm pushing 46.

No, no connection. My grandma was Armenian and her parents were from the ottoman empire and survived the genocide, but that's a pretty tenuous link.

I'll have a look in my library and get back to you with a reading list.

I found it engrossing up until about S6. It suddenly became really clunky and I could not suspend my disbelief any further. Now it’s hard to recall any of it other than there was a lot of nom, nom, nom. But fine for a teenager of her age, lots of young characters.

Just watched episode 1 with both daughters and older daughter’s boyfriend (Mr HH chose to watch the golf instead). It definitely held our attention but bloody hell it’s relentlessly stressful to watch! Jury’s out on how far we’ll continue - if I knew it was going to be wrapped up in a couple of seasons I would go all in, but I’m not sure I have the stamina for 11 seasons of that!

Just dug up the DVDs and it isn't a DVD extra but billed at "Part 5 Special Presentation" (I've scanned the disc insert). Each disc is well the other side of 200 min of films.

ISTR that the consensus was of the box sets (DVD or BR) the BR was definitely the poorer product as it suffered from some dreadful letter-boxing issues. The DVDs have to most user unfriendly I've come across.

As an aside I remember a historian mate of mine who claimed that the W@W was really groundbreaking as it was the first time that a 1931 start date for WWII was ever mentioned outside of academic debates.

Just finished Moon Knight. Not really sure about it. Was ok. I think it was more fan service than anything else as seemed that having a prior knowledge from the comics would probably have made it make more sense after reading the Reddit sub afterwards.

Finally got round to finishing off Westworld, I think I enjoyed it but I did have to go do some research after to actually find out what was going on. Quite a dark ending and no guarantees of a season 5.

House of the Dragon is pretty good so far.

Rings of Power is an enjoyable watch too, very slow moving so might be better just to binge watch when all the episodes have been released.

I watched it years ago and stuck with it until some point in S7. The story did get pretty boring but part of the reason I gave up was because I was using dodgy streams and it was a bit of a hassle.

I have recently started re-watching it and my partner is watching it now too. We just finished S4.

The reason I went back to it is because supposedly if you persevere through the relatively poor seasons, the recent seasons have been very good.

Thanks the Gods that you've posted that. I really enjoyed S03 but I found myself having to watch that accompanying after-show special to fully understand what I had just seen - I originally thought that this was the first sign that I was going ga-ga..

I used to take me about three hours to watch an episode of Deadwood because of all of the rewinding, ear straining, Googling synopses etc

TBF it does have a 'literary source' which the TV series 'sort of' followed (they were much more willing to bump of main characters in the books) - to 'obtain' them would probably entail looking for them in some sort of 'safe place'. The two main storylines after 'Negan' were handled far better in book form, the first one much more so, but even in book form you could tell that the final tale was really scraping the bottom of the barrel - especially as the epic was ended in a very, unsatisfying, Sopano's-like manner.

So far, from the Tales of the Walking Dead series I've only really enjoyed the 2nd episode where they actually tried to do something 'different' and 'interesting'.

Watch a couple of series until you're bored. Read the recaps to catch up. Skip ahead and watch the latest one.

It is nonsense after a few series that doesn't progress because it's left with nowhere to go.

It's fantastic up until the end of S4 maybe squeeze in S5 if you're still good with it. It gets better and better, then as others have said it falls off a cliff. It's where the edge of that cliff is that we disagree on.

I can’t remember when they get to the prison in The Walking Dead (S3 maybe?) but that is ******* brilliantly done. That **** was scary.

No, I think it jumped the shark after the first season of Negan. It just started going round in circles and once the shock of the main characters getting killed off wore off, I had no reason to carry on.

I found out this week that my colleague shagged the actor who played Daryl. She didn't think it was a big deal, but I was well impressed.

    Aye that’s good going.

A ‘Celebrity shag stories thread’ would be a good’un. I know a family friend who had it off on the driveway of her house with Ally McCoist while her husband slept upstairs.

Update - both teen daughters (aged 16 and 18) are loving ‘The Walking Dead’ and are on Series 3 already. I’m watching it too but I “cheat” watch it - ie I read the Wiki episode synopsis as I watch it so I know when especially gory or nasty bits are coming up.

The Jeffrey Dhamer thing on Netflix is really very good, binged about 7 of them over the weekend. Reminds me a lot of the Assassination of Gianni Versace. (Same producer)
