Going down when there's "some" contact is considered part of the game and is not considered cheating but clever and desired at times. If mankad became part of the normal course of a cricket game it'll be unwatchable. Both things are undesirable, one would be easy to eradicate.

I agree with your sentiment but the contact has to be considered sufficient to cause the player to go down to give a free kick or a pen. Falling under minimal contact is still cheating and should result in a booking, though referees have become far too lenient in that respect, the laws haven't changed.
    Mankad is perfectly legal.

Rules / Laws are one thing for sure, but morally I think they both fall under the same category of gamesmanship. Winning by deviant means.

Yes agree that it's never good to see a mankad but at the same time the fielding side needs some protection to prevent a batsman backing up over-zealously, esp in these limited over games where every run in the last few overs can be crucial. Not sure what the answer is. Maybe first mankad can only act as a warning. Maybe 3rd umpire disallows runs when the backing-up batsman was out of his crease at the point of delivery ? If we simply banned mankads a batsman could be half way down the wicket at the point of delivery.

yes, not an easy one. I'm not sure batsmen would go half way down as the chance of a genuine run out would be too high if the striker straight bats one back towards the bowler

You are correct diving is in the laws of football, you get booked for it if the ref thinks you have done it. So totally the opposite situation. In football you are wrong and get booked, in cricket the bowler is right and the batter is out.

Extraordinary scenes at Edgbaston with Warwickshire avoiding relegation by 5 runs in the very last session of the season and sending Yorkshire down (sorry, @Knight GT).

Are you watching, 'Sir' Andrew Strauss?

Amazing. Norwell ends with 9-62 and 13 for 100 in the match.

After a couple of narrow defeats that was certainly a very convincing win !

As a batsman in my time, I have no sympathy with any non-striker getting run out this way. Stand 2 yards down the wicket but with your bat held behind you and behind the popping crease. You still get a 2-yard start for a quick single, but can't get run out.

    This tournament is a farce!
Even a dolt like me has worked out that the majority of runs happen latterly so DL is farcical.

That's before the weather takes its grip.

More matches cancelled and this one could go the same way.

Might as well play Subbuteo cricket to decide it.

I'm hearing we have already lost this game vs Australia on the "expected DL outcome basis". Mathematical trend analysis has shown that the game is likely to be 7 overs a side. The same maths shows we would probably win the toss, choose to bat first, and score 58-6, Hales top-scoring with 23 from 14 balls. Aussie would reach the target with 5 balls to spare, 60-3. A disappointing outcome but you can't argue with the maths. Changes need to be made at the top after these 2 defeats in games we should have won, yet failed miserably, our hopes hanging by a thread.

Am I right in thinking that we need to beat both NZ and SL to get through, unless Aussie fail to beat Ireland and Afghanistan ?
We are already out aren't we ?

We need to beat NZ and then, assuming Australia beat Ireland and Afghanistan, will go into the game against SL knowing then scale of the net run rate victory we'd need to go through. Australia's big defeat to NZ is what's keeping us hanging on I think.

    Short answer - pretty much.

Ireland have gone from 20-0 to 25-5!! Australia need to win by over 70 runs to go above England so Ireland need 110
