Apologies all, totally, utterly, completely forgot this was on my to-do list. Blame work, family, current list of DIY projects but personally I blame Gino - bloody crap transfer window, Dennis 30% wages, 30% fit, no flasks etc etc etc. So to save time I thought I'd find a 'podder' who clearly has waaaaaaay more knowledge and professionalism than me and has put some thought and effort into previewing the huge Championship match up with Wales' second best team, therefore here is someone invited by 'James' on "TheWatfordWay': Realise this match is at the Vic but here's some nice pics of "a night out in Cardiff": Weather prediction: a mild for February 12 degrees, cloudy, humidity I'd guess about 86% and wind between 15 and 17mph. Latest Odds (in partnership with SkyBet, my official betting partner): 9/1 on 0-0 125/1 on 5-2 4000/1 on Pollock to score first in a 4-4 draw. Mortgage on. Apologies again, I won't volunteer again until 2027.
I've been on a couple of nights out in Cardiff, when we played the Home Internationals there. One restaurant near the Arms Park was rather good. Nice city. Not ruined by "colour blind Mexicans on acid" like Watford.
Not sure, but one will probably get 15mins and be gassed after five minutes. As we keep on drawing games, it's tempting to go that route. If TDB plays then he needs to be on his game and not put in a half-hearted shift. I would start Bayo with Asprilla and hopefully Sema can get a few more minutes. Pollock I have no problem starting as he was good midweek against a poor side on a crap pitch, so he will now hopefully have a good game on a green carpet. Cardiff have been in and around us all season and are a bit like us, on the coat tails of the playoffs. I'm going for another draw as we still struggle to score goals at home right now. 1-1
Cardiff is a lovely city, been there a few times for football and once for the WWE a couple of years back. Plenty of nice pubs and places to eat. Well worth a trip.
Travelling over for this game. Always enjoy the trip, but results have been shocking for the last number of years. Some draws, but mostly defeats. Hopefully I get to witness a victory tomorrow. Where is best for a few pints before and after the game? Never been to the Bunker. Good, bad, meh?
Depends what you're after really. I tried the newly reopened Oddfellows after Chesterfield and thought it was decent - unusual bar layout but other than that, was ok for a quick couple of pints after the game. Might be worth checking though as it was away fans only before and mixed after. In town, Walkabout is good if you're bothered about watching the late game but the beer is pretty lousy and the food isn't much better. I much prefer places off the high street such as The Estcourt Tavern, Golden Lion and Wellington Arms.
I used to enjoy meeting up with friends at the Nascot Arms when they were arriving at Watford Junction - it’s not far from there. Hopefully it’s still as good these days.
If you're into craft beer, visit the Mad Squirrel taproom on King St. 'Evergreen' is my absolute top recommendation and at a cool 10%ABV, you'll guarantee yourself a fun afternoon at the game/pants'ing by the stewards. If that's a bit much, 'Aztec' is their best IPA of a more relaxed variety, and they have a delicious salted caramel stout if you are the kind of manchild that enjoys drinking puddings, as I am.
Two trees micro pub on Vicarage road if you want a good ale. Very small so get there early if you want to sit down. As someonelse said mad squirrel in town too, good selection there.
Is Aaron Ramsey fit for Cardiff now ? Noticed that they made a few signings too so might field some debutants.
If it's not 'on' at the moment, they do have a 'biscoffi' stout in their rotation that I saw at Beerkat in Ealing just a few days ago but didn't actually buy, so there's an alternative option for you...
No concerns with that. I'd imagine our designated hardman, Jamal Lewis, will have been given the nod by VI to give Ramsey a 'warm' Vic Rd welcome to neutralise that threat...
Have to be honest, my 11 year daughter got me to try her Biscoff on toast spread the other week, it tasted like someone else had chewed up a biscuit then spat it into my mouth.
It's one of the biggest meme flavours at the moment, they put it on/in/about just about every consumable product that you can fling your dollars at, from brownies to stouts. I'm surprised you're not rolling around in a slushy pool of its spreadable variety as we speak.
This is actually the problem I have with it - I'm not as big a fan as quite a few people, because its taste is strangely muted. As you say, like the majority of its biscuit essence has already somehow been consumed before you reached it. The biscoff McFlurry was a little disappointing for that very reason...
Hamer Andrews Pollock Hoedt Morris Chakvetadze Livermore Kone Martins Rajovic Asprilla Bachmann, Porteous, Sierralta, Lewis, TDB, Grieves, Sema, Dennis, Bayo. Watford 5-0 Cardiff. Easy win.
A lot of hotels used too and some still do offer Lotus as a free biscuit to dip with coffee. They do have quite a required taste, as they have a hint of fine ginger about them but they are not awful by any stretch. Give me a bourbon creame or a custurd creame and that'll quarm any cravings.
I mean: it’s a biscuit. Am I missing something? Why aren’t Garibaldis or Custard Creams a “meme flavour”?
Given the players we have, I like that. TBD needs to be benched. Maybe Sema for Martins, but I like the unpredictability of the Brazilian compared to the King. The King can come on to cross for the Dane and Dennis on 60+ mins as a triple sub. Lovely.
To add a little to what others have said, it’s a caramelised biscuity thing that has risen to prominence in the last few years. It’s also one of life’s greatest inventions.
