The wetters threw this one away yesterday , 0-1 down and unable to put 2 passes together only for it all to fall apart with a great 2cnd half counter attacking performance. Great comeback for the clappers however the wetters will live to fight another day
I wonder how much of the bookings for dissent come from him being the captain and thinking thats what he should be doing , dont remember the same temperament last year. I don’t have a problem with Bachman , think he is ok, would be interesting to know how many clean sheets he has kept, wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t a pretty good ratio. I am however not particularly sure he fits our new style of play , it’s interesting our goal keepers have been a little divisive for a while now, probably in fact since Gomez(assume everybody loves Gomez)
Hamer is the better ball player, he is much better at decision making and playing out from the back with sharper, accurate passes. I was surprised with the number of shots he saved on Saturday, the gametime is definitely helping him improve as is the set piece coach. I believe Bachmann is the better goalkeeper apart from that and in particular would likely have saved one or both Ipswich goals as an example. Hamer has earned his run in the team and will likely keep the position until injury or complete loss of form which I hope neither happens.
I think the captaincy has something to do with it. But Huddersfield at home last year was another bonkers moment of his and he’s always been gobby, picking fights with opponents and running after the ref. The trouble he has now is refs are penalising it more.
Well, yes. But I was making the point because I understand there is a shortage of cash in the club and, if we are going to spend money on new players this Jan, then a goalkeeper is not necessarily a priority. Of course it would be nice to buy better and better players, every club would do that if they could. But they can't, and neither can we.
No idea what you're talking about, we've got a £30mil warchest, plus the £££s we'll get for Louza on the open market to boot!
I hope that yesterday's result doesn't gloss over the fact that in January we need a no.1 GK and a target man . Hamer and Bayo were good yesterday. No doubt. But one swallow and all that ...
Longer highlights from PNE website, showcasing Hamer's saves... https://www.pnefc.net/ifollow/latest-videos/
Something particularly gratifying about watching this through the eyes of the opposition, and getting the commentary from another bias. Listening to the hope gradually dissipate. Most grateful to PNE for supplying us with a slightly longer highlights video, even if the extra footage is more interested in Preston’s lack of success in front of goal more than Watford’s goals and best moments. From the commentary, you get the expectation, the enthusiasm, the bullishness, and then the unbounded joy from their goal. Then came frustration from being pegged back, and grudging acknowledgement that they weren’t going to get it all their own way, followed by disbelief that they had fallen behind so quickly at the start of the second half. Then a professional detachment as he realised that the game was slipping away. Then hollow descriptiveness, and a little mention of upcoming fixtures. Then a grasping at straws, as he remembered it was his job to somehow remain upbeat, followed by undisguised despondency and a desire to turn his mic off and move on. He did a good job. I felt the Preston pain. It was quite enriching.
I wonder why we don't use the Jon Marks commentary for our highlights. The commentaries we do use are always a bit flat, and sound as if they were added in post production.
I haven't watched it but I feel as if I've known the man all my life. Have you considered a career in the media?
I've still not seen the Rajovic miss near the end that everyone says is a sitter but watching the PNE video I see that early on we also scored from a corner but for Hoedt and Bayo getting in each other's way.
The Rajovic chance wasn’t a sitter. It was actually a decent header where he headed it back across goal but just wide of the post far post. I would put that down to more a good effort rather than bad miss.
I watched the entire match from Reid's excellent Watford Match Archive post. I thought the first half was a little chaotic with both teams having spells. Preston created 4 good goal scoring chances and we created 3, so going in 1-1 at half time was about right.......but the second half was the strangest I think I've ever witnessed in 40 odd years of watching football. Preston had control of the ball for large spells, created many goal scoring chances, but Watford just had moments when they broke forward. We did this 5 times and scored from 4 of them. I think we only had 5 or 6 attacks in the second half. It was great, but highly unusual to see. Basically every time we ventured forward we scored. I think Preston actually played well, but couldn't finish their numerous chances, whereas we were highly proficient at taking ours. We could play that game again and equally lose it 5-1, if the chance conversion was reversed. A very strange second half, but that takes nothing away. Those isolated attacks of ours were devastating.
As HB1 said, far from a sitter. Was in plenty of space but far from a simple header and did well to get it that close imo (and I say that as a non Raj fan!) As you said it was an odd game. At HT it was obvious the game had plenty of goals in it, but was hard to know which way they'd be divided - for the score to be so one-sided at the end was a (welcome!) surprise.
One of those halves when everything clicks 5th time in 13 years we have scored 5 or more away from home that's 5 in 125ish games = just 4%
We’ve been spoilt. I recently learnt a stat that when Burnley won 5-0 against Sheffield Utd a few weeks ago, it was their first 5-0 for 50 years!!
Won't help his case at all, but TDB was also nowhere to be seen, might be more worth the risk playing Martins if we have an actual full-back behind him
For some reason our first half chance from a corner wasn't included in the Extended Highlights on Watford's YouTube channel. It seemed as if it was more Bayo putting off Hoedt I reckon. Without Bayo challenging him, Hoedt has the best chance to score. There is also a Preston defender in the mix trying to put him off as well mind.
Hamer made some good saves first half but we were very clinical 2nd going by the highlights . Some sharp shooting
It’s in the Preston highlights posed above ☝️. Yes looked like Bayo put Hoedt off what would have been an open goal
I’ve not been able to find a replay of that reckless challenge from PNE in the first half to see whether it should have been more than the yellow card it got.
Was shown on the sky match highlights. Could well have been red. Very high. No sure what he was thinking.
I have seen us do worse , was looking for some example and came across the absolute monster of a tackle (not high and not to be condoned) https://x.com/epicredcards/status/1541448548809580548?s=20
Couldn't stand Gomes and didn't want him playing for us. Wrote to the club to protest about him. A fascist supporter of the tyrant Bolsonaro.
