According to a report from Which, no less than 161 current models of cars are too big and fat and long to fit into a normal parking space anymore. Many of us will have experienced meeting one of these things coming the other way down a narrow lane too. Big fat waddling metal boxes on wheels. Bullbars on the front and spare tyre on the back gate. Those damn things.

Of course these SUV monster trucks are very popular amongst the richies. Even though they are 8 times more likely to kill a child in an accident than a regular humble car. Even though they weigh 2 tonnes, drink fuel and pump out pollution aplenty. Even though they are invariably driven by ONE lone proud Percy without any other occupants. It makes them feel 'safe' they say, perched up there looking down on the hoi polloi below.

I had a boss in a job a few years ago who had a humongous one which looked like this

    upload_2023-8-27_15-29-34.png

Except it was Silver and had 'INTIMIDATOR' written down the side. I **** you not. He used it to drive the half mile from.home to his little office and back every day.

I also strongly object to the Range Rover. Especially the 'Evoque' model and most of all when it is white. There's just something about the arrogant 'f-you' slope to the little roof over the back window. And the people I've seen getting out of them.

Now there is a group called 'tyre extinguishers' who are having a campaign of letting down their tyres and spray painting: 'Climate Criminal' or 'This Machine Kills Kids' onto the driver's doors.

They say 'you'll be angry to find one or more of your tyres has been deflated. But it's not you - it's your car."

Do we support them or are we against them and they should be caught and imprisoned?

The bigger the car, the worse the driver always seems true. I still don't understand the need for the school run by people who live within a mile of the school.

Yep. My cousin bought his wife some huge BMW tractor thing because "she's a terrible driver and I want some protection around her if she hits something".

Obviously not worried about what or who she hits. Funnily enough, he's a big Tory.

It would need legislation. Obviously those in power won't. Despite the benefits of doing so for fear of alienating a small section of the population. Mind you over in Canada it's SUV's everywhere along with power trucks from GMC, Ford etc.etc. Understandable there I suppose given the conditions.

It's not nice shiny new 4x4s that are bad for the environment it's the old bangers that the bloody poor selfishly insist on driving. Just ask Sadiq

Weirdly enough, pollution from car exhausts is much less of a concern than pollution from two-stage engines in your average petrol-powered garden equipment. The amount of pollution put out from those tools is absolutely astonishing compared to a relatively modern car or truck.

So there you have it. The real risk to the environment comes from the middle class NIMBYs with their power garden equipment.

I'd be happy to see leaf blowers banned. The most pointless invention ever. Use a rake and a wheelbarrow you lazy sods!
