I didn't expect much today having endured last season, I won't be able to add to anything else said in this thread but despite QPR being poor we actually looked like a team today, and a team that actually gave a $hit, last season that match would have been a draw. I will miss the match next week as I will be on an aeroplane.
Not much in the way of highlights here but better than waiting for the ITV show has had 2 games , 3 advert breaks and loads of interviews in 45 minutes!
The nosebleed was ridiculous, the player didn't even go down - it was only when the ref noticed the blood and stopped the game that he sat on the pitch (understandably so at that point as he'd basically been invited to).
Today I learnt that the seats at the front of the SEJ stand are not under cover , for about 3/4 hr before kick off it pissed it down, but 46 seconds into the game I didn’t care. It’s weird watching live vs on TV in many ways it’s much harder to see how players are doing, however from what I could see we were nothing like Watford from last season , it looked like we had 11 players on the pitch playing as a team which is at least 2 more than most of the matches last season. We have certain lost flair and looked a lot more basic, but it seemed we played much much harder , chasing down lost balls and pressing forward and had a desire to win. Most players looked pretty good to me : Ngakia seemed to be one of our main outlets and was driving forward causing issues MM looked like he has skill but also possibly prone to taking one touch to many Bayo looked a lot better than previous games and seemed to be covering more of the pitch than he has done Defence solid (Bachman worried me a little , was playing so far forward I keep waiting for him to be chipped) Louza good game TDB great first goal almost had a second Didn’t have a great view but Chakvetadze looked like a bit of a monster when he came on just looked at the stats 23 shots with 12 on target , our biggest problem last year was scoring and we have started with 4 different players hitting the back of the net. First game of the season but good way to start.
Yes very negative. I mean with that much injury time they could have got a couple to make us nervy ! If he does that when they are in front (unlikely on that showing ..) he’ll be in trouble . Well if they actually enforce the rules . Not even sure Bachmann was particularly hurt when he was messing around a bit bud my bad if wrong on that .
While I agree I'm not too fond of Sema on the right, he did still get an assist with a cross (using his right foot)!
First half was stunning, total domination the likes we've rarely seen even under Zola and Jokanovic. We obviously took our foot off the gas in the second half with job done. Hard to tell if it was down to the general happiness to see the game out but thought that Livermore, Kone and particularly Kayembe looked ponderous on the ball, taking far more touches to move it on than those they replaced. We were very, very good today but not sure we could play that way if Louza was injured for any length of time. Still, what a fantastic, committed and tactically innovative first game. Chapeau to Ishmael.
How many times will be say that this season? How many times will he be allowed to before he gets the chop?!
Is it just me or was Bachmann not Barkmann today? I dont remember hearing him at all to be honest which I find hard to believe. Has VI had a word?
This is a great video. Fair play to the kid that done this Vlog, did a great job. Just wish he got Chakvetadze’s skill in there. Much better than the clubs highlights of the game.
Not the exact same style as Louza, but I wonder how effectively Chakvetadze could play that role if Louza is unavailable for any period of time
I noticed he didn’t clap the fans today. I sit in the Family Stand and usually he comes out and claps, but he just ignored everyone. Maybe a deliberate act to snub as the social media abuse had got to him? Did he clap the home end in the first half?
Christ it was dreadful. We turned it off in the end because they kept going back to interview more players at Plymouth.
Wasn't quite as sold on him as everyone else seems to be. One wonderful touch around the defender and certainly not short of confidence but I've been burned by too many positive debut cameos in the past. He was playing against a totally beaten and deflated team, let's see if he can make a difference in a tight game.
Believe. That skill, couple of passes that showed tremendous vision. He's fvcking ace. I haven't been this excited about a player I've never heard of since Isaac Success's debut.
I didn't think that, I thought his presence on the bench meant that we're not planning to sell him, although we have basically nobody else apart from the kids to put there!
ITV have excelled themselves with making the show even worse than last year. Quest TV showed what a good football highlights show should be about .
Where on earth did that come from? Excellent performance in the first half, although, I did think we scored from 2 low chance attempts so am keen to see us create quality opportunities moving forward. Baffled by Ngakia & Morris’ performances as both are on the lower end of the squad talent wise prior to this season. That role for Franny is such a hybrid it’s thrown me to see a traditional centre half play it so well at least today. QPR are ****ed this season, and moving forwards they were absolutely atrocious. Keen to see some of the bench get run outs against Stevenage, think the likes of Healey could do with a fair chance to get their seasons going. Well done Val.
Love that lad . Someone who loves going to the game and enjoying the day out . Goes to the game with his Mum and he’s proud of it . Top lad .
I did say that other fans used the term. The point is that great strikers are either in the right place sometimes, and score almost always, or are in the right place always, and score sometimes. The legendary strikers (1 or 2 a generation) are in the right place always, and score always.
First time I’ve seen his stuff. Was impressed. Yeah how it should. That use to be me and my family back in the day. Miss those days. Hoping to get back to England soon so I can take my boys to The Vic for their first time.
A few goals in the first half of the first game of the season, but nothing since, and all the clappers come out like flowers in the desert after a shower.
