    Foxy back as I returned.
Fed her two meatballs by hand and a chicken wing.
    She's taken two other meatballs.
    Hopefully back after dark.
Extraordinary thing to have her take from my hand.
    I feel privileged.

I suspect there are many hunt supporting tossers in my local area so, as soon as t-shirt weather arrives, I take immense pleasure doing my shopping in the local Waitrose with my “Keep The Ban” t shirt on full display.

I note that I’m getting an ad at the top of the forum encouraging me to shoot partridge (not Alan) in Spain.

All because I said ducks were tasty.

I get ads encouraging me to shoot lawyers, but not for the same reason.

You need to buy a large baggy one for the winter that fits over your coat !

Foxy was back again just after 9pm.
More wings and meatballs for her and she trotted off to cache I expect.

They eat better than we do!

Yes I'd love to get to feed ours by hand but they are very much wild and I'd be fearful that they would start to approach other people in the village who may not be so kind. I always put the food out after dark (so the magpies don't eat it) and then sit with a torch (and the cat) 20 feet away. They aren't phased by me talking to the cat and sometimes sit on the lawn 20 feet from "the feeding station" waiting for me to come out. Like many things in my life, I'm just nervous about trying to take it past first base :).
Re the magpies, we have a problem for the next 2 weeks as the cat/fish/fox feeder comes during daylight so she now puts a plastic plant pot over the food. The wildlife camera shows the magpies confused and walking round and round the pot, but the foxes have learned to lift up the pot, drop it 6 feet away, and then get at their food....after several evenings of running round the pot, growling at it, sitting waiting for it to move on etc :).

No - I feel a mixture of happiness about this (hopefully more “country folk” than I suspected share the same view) and disappointment (I would take great pleasure in telling anyone who supports hunting where to go).

I know what you mean - I knocked up a load of "Tories out" posters using images from https://www.coldwarsteve.com/ and put them up in the windows before the local elections a couple of weeks ago. I was itching for some Tory c*** to come knocking, but they never did.

Foxy back at about 10am but with an obstruction in her mouth.

Thankfully at about 12pm she had removed it, chicken bone.

I shall have to remove bones later and or put more meatballs and less wings!

    Very traumatic.

  13. The undeniable truth

Yes chicken bones not good for dogs and therefore presumably foxes. You need to leave out a menu !

Yeah, ‘cos foxes never eat chickens.

Yes I was a bit concerned when you mentioned the chicken wings as I know that cooked bones are a no no for dogs. Having said that, our 10 yr old black lab (the one who prefers stealing human food to trying to catch his own venison) stole a chicken drumstick about a week ago and got away with it with no ill effect.

Also, while putting on my @Keighley hat, “fewer” (sorry!)

For dogs it’s raw bones = ok; cooked bones = not ok

You don't know how many they have!

They are the best fed animals in Hertfordshire!

I'm thinking of putting up a sign with " No starlings" on it.

Raving mad and monopolizing the feeders.

Do you have a feeder with fat pellets? We find that, by having one of those separate from the seed feeders, starlings will be all over it and leave the seeds to finches etc.

It's pretty sad that in this day and age there are savages who enjoy 'hunting' animals for so called sport. It's sheer barbarism. Animals feel terror and pain. These individuals have precious little empathy. I know some claim that they are there in nature but that's a joke. Unfortunately due to man messing about with the natural world and trying to eliminate as many apex predators as he can we now have a situation where culls are in place for all sorts of prey species.

And at any time when apex predators are reintroduced be they a white tailed sea eagle or North American wolf or somehow manage to increase their range naturally there is an immense amount of uproar and illegal killing once again. At a time like this with climate change in full swing lots of avian species are suffering especially passage migrants. If it's not bad enough that they have to face the threat of severe weather, lack of food/water along the way you get these morons shooting at them particularly in the Mediterranean. They say it's a way of life. Well plenty of things in the past have been ways of life but we've seen that they are backward and changed behaviour accordingly.

I'm extremely pleased Chris Packham won his libel case against the trash publication Country Squire whose name alone evokes centuries of feudalism. These people are unhinged who seem to think they have a divine right to manage the countryside for their own interests while claiming it's best for wildlife. Fingers crossed a few more are locked away and any incoming government increase the fines and prison sentences for those committing wildlife crime from egg collecting, poaching, poisoning and baiting.
These people are the scum of the earth.

I'm happy for the starlings, sparrows, **** and robins to use our feeders - especially as they have young at the moment and it is a pleasure seeing huge "babies" demanding food from smaller parents. It is pigeons that land on our feeder and nearly capsize it that bugs me - they hoover up so much so quickly. I chase them away till the smaller birds have had their share.
Fat balls here get taken by gulls and crows mostly

  25. I Blame Pozzo

    I Blame Pozzo First Team

    I do.
They are eating about six hard fat balls a day,not to mention those in my near neighbours' gardens!

I've given up on the softer version, they're gone before I've returned to the house!

Have numerous sizes of feeders, the Conqueror with twelve stations, some with two, some with four so the smaller birds do get a look in. As I went out for my afternoon work I saw both types of sparrows on them and a Great Pozzo and a Blue Pozzo.

I also have a house feeder hanging outside the front door,a gift from a grateful parent. The Blue Pozzos can feed there.

    Excellent first episode of Springwatch.

Iolo unwell and possibly too many evenings in the Tadpole and Ticket office for his own good.

Meg standing in,not overly keen on her.

Nightjars, Ospreys and a Welsh Blackbird with a dog collar and a name like 'Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogeychwyrndrobw' or close!

Oh and a Vydra family too on the canal.

Bee with pollen trousers in the mindfulness moment sounded like a Caravaggio to me!

No they didn’t. I assume it’s the same as the official renaming of the Brecon Beacons, which was in the news recently but is now being railed against by some in local hospitality.

Foxy back ten minutes after I returned at 3pm.

    Slightly frothing at the mouth.

I have her 8 beef pieces which she ate.

I am in a Facebook dialogue with Fox Angels who think she has an obstruction in her airway.

    Very concerning.
