Valerien Ismael - Manager

I’m more worried that his ego will cause him to undermine Manga and Ismael. He’s so used to getting his own way and I don’t think he will see them as more important than him …..and he simply isn’t a coach.
He will, of course, be manager, possibly player-manager by October.

Ha I could definitely see him being at least caretaker manager in November!

Honestly, they just make it up as they go along. Pathetic.

Exactly this. Pretty clear he played a major role in undermining at least a couple of the head coaches. He was also the biggest character in a dressing room that regularly downed tools for coaches

    Ha!

    Nice idea.

Try telling that to Lord knows how many tennis clubs who use lazy, formulaic, unsafe so called ' coaches' .

I don't know why Pozzo bothers. He clearly wants to do it himself.

I quite like the idea of this, as someone who could potentially motivate the players and understands the club, although technically have no idea if he would be any good. If you extrapolate forwards though, Deeney takes over when Ismael is sacked and then ..Deeney is sacked. That's not going to be a good feeling for anyone.

Not sure about that, I'll probably feel almost as relieved when Deeney is sacked as manager as I was when he was finally released as a player.

Not a fan then or don’t think he would make a good coach or manager at some point ?

Admittedly must be too early to expect him to come in and have any affect on a squad who had a few rants at them and not really responded .

There are more qualified ex players out there.

Won’t matter anyway probably as we will be changing managers again by October and they will want their own coaching staff .

I'm already thinking who will be the ex-player we'll bring in as a coach for Deeney that will take over when Deeney is sacked.

We have felt like a soulless husk since Deeney left, so this could be good news.
I've felt so disengaged I haven't been to a game, watched highlights or even posted here for months.

We need something to connect to as fans.

    Until he is unceremoniously sacked.

But a lot of people weren’t sad to see him go saying Troy was a problem and not helping the squad at all with his attitude and form .

Is the feeling that we haven’t replaced him and there is the hope we might see the motivated, in your face Deeney as in his prime when everyone listens to him and seems him a true leader rather than the unfit ,frustrated and not performing Troy we saw in the last 2 seasons of so ?

Obviously on the touch line though rather than playing .

The issue is that Pozzo is a vile invasive influence that has infected every fibre of our once great club. As supporters we have sensed the putrid smell of evil but we have been misdirected - Giraldi. Duxbury. Hodgson. Deeney. An Edwards pre-season. Even the hapless useless puppet Giaretta.

    Manga will be next.

The reality is we will never heal until we exorcise the disgraceful owner.

Who desperately needs the money that takes any job at the club? They’re all wealthy people and it’s not like we pay a lot and give out long deals. We’ve just had Wilder telling us how it is and it was our worst series of results all season. We have got to the stage where any coach or manager at the club know they won’t be there for the term of the contract and for many that’s probably half the reason they take the job, I don’t see why anyone would hold their tongue, because speaking their mind about the problems at the club will just expedite their early exit and inevitable pay off.

As others have already said, this is Edward MkII, a desperate attempt to pander to what they think the fans want, in order to paper over the giant fault lines running through the club and without any clue how to meaningfully address them.

Troy probably ended his chances of getting a job with this comment about the Pearson sacking.

Without wishing to go over old ground not sure it would have made much difference.

I suspect the players didn’t like him after the alleged West Ham incident.

I hated that game so much. We were bang up for it, they were on the beach and then that moron Dawson gave a needless penalty away after about thirty seconds. He did it in another game too (think maybe Southampton at home) where we'd been crap all game and were losing 2-0, got a flukey goal that got us back into the game, everyone was lifted and then they kicked off and he gave away an idiotic free kick that they scored from within about a minute.

I also can't stand Danny Welbeck doing well as although he seems a decent chap he contributed the square root of f all to our season and then left at the first available opportunity and has been pretty good ever since.

I think Dawson also gave away the free kick that lead to Arsenals second goal as well. Brain-dead defender, until he left us anyway.

Yeah, that’s the odd bit. Looked solid PL standard at WBA and West Ham but atrocious here.

And then didn’t bother to challenge as the ball was flicked over him into the net for the 3rd.
He was also responsible for the suicide pass out of defence that led to Brighton’s opener in the first game of the season and then managed not to notice Maupay for the 2 goals in the second half.
A disaster practically the whole season.

While not all of his mistakes were down to him trying to play the ball out (or even most of them), I do remember an interview that the much-maligned Giraldi gave where he admitted that he brought Dawson in as a ball-playing defender, to see that plan be shown up for the folly that in the very first game must have ****ed with his head, because he was great for West Ham

Also maybe needed to play a younger /quicker defended next to him ?

Welbeck was injured for a while, but was back in training before lockdown, so was fully fit to be picked once the season restarted but Pearson favoured Deeney over him, so I’m not sure his lack of contribution was that much down to him. It’s probably a large contributing factor as to why we went down, not picking the considerably more talented striker (when fit).

The fact that Giraldi saw Dawson as a potential ‘ball-playing’ CB speaks volumes about how poor our recruitment has been for years. Did they ever watch him in action prior to signing him?

Having just watched a couple of Barnsley/West Brom fans being interviewed about VI's appointment and the key takeaways were...

-VI needs time to implement his style of play

-VI will need to be allowed to bring in his type of player

    -VI doesn't tolerate big egos

-VI needs his players to be grafters

Basically, he couldn't be a less suitable appointment if they tried.

We’ve been crying out for our players to work harder and press more. Yes some of the players are inappropriate for the style but maybe Ismael’s methods will instil that skillset in them more. Same re big egos. We could use someone who will take some of the players down a notch.

Ismael at Barnsley came in in October and he finished in the playoffs. Was also in the playoffs for pretty much the entirety of his time at WBA so don’t particularly think he’ll need time more than anyone else.

He’ll need a certain type of player but so will any manager with a clear philosophy and there’ll be a lot of churn this summer anyway.
