Charlie Patino is leaving Arsenal I certainly wouldn't mind us taking him on if we could. Fair stats for a 19 year old in his first season in the Championship.
Is apparently a big Luton fan. Former Luton youth player. Doesn’t bother me that much but makes as a less likely destination. I reckon he goes to relegated Southampton/Leicester.
Becir Omeragic is on a free. No doubt much bigger than us will be out to get him, but I would love to see us at least try. Apparently joining Montpellier on a free but nothing official.
Seems so. Burnley were interested too allegedly. https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.c...meragic-to-join-montpellier-on-free-transfer/
Hopefully Cleverly and Bucuna follow them out of the door. Patino would be a decent option if affordable and he's willing to come. Ben Wiles would be a nice option too and on a free. Whiteman will be in his final year and is a top Championship midfielder. Tom Davis could possibly be a choice. There's plenty available and as you said we're going to be extremely light in the middle next season.
Given both are out of contract it'll surely be the case. Maybe, though worried by the recent reports that he's a big Luton fan! He wasn't even good for Rotherham, makes no sense. Yeah he's good; would cost more than the £3.5mil LeedsOrn claimed, and there'd likely be a reasonable amount of competition for him. He might also be Choudhury v2. One way or another we'll need to make a few additions.
I dont really get the hype over Patino. If he hadnt come through at a big club where everyone thinks their academy players are the next big thing, no-one would be excited about him based on this season's performances. Looked half decent against us, but gather he has been ***** for the most part all season. We probably just made him look a lot better than he is as we are even more *****. Most Blackpool fans suggest he could do with a spell in League 1 as its more his level. Davies is a more well rounded player than Choudhury, but I dont really think a lot of him and he is a player who hasnt progressed in 5 years (as with Choudhury). Would be an okay option on a cheap fee, but Id like to think our scouting team could find someone better and cheaper who has scope to improve.
There was talk from Adam Leventhal that the club were going to offer Cleverley a new contract.. Not heard anything since and nothing on Cathcart either . Who has the final say? Manga Pozzo New manager (ha ha) CG
He's only just turned 19 though - he's almost exactly the same age as our Asprilla. Asprilla had 1 goal and 2 assists in 1501 minutes for us this season (1 goal per 1501 minutes, 1 assist per 751 minutes); Patino had 2 goals and 4 assists in 2348 minutes for Blackpool this season (1 goal per 1174 minutes, 1 assist per 587 minutes). Patino also made 2.5 tackles per 90 vs Asprilla's 1.5. That seems pretty good going for a young player in a crap Blackpool team. My main reservation would probably be that pretty much all our current remaining CMs are also relatively lightweight and a distance from being the finished article (Asprilla, Kone, Louza), so I'm not sure how many more we could accommodate and it would be sensible us spending a decent amount of money on.
Stats can be used to paint a picture (especially when they are as de minimis as those) but I also value the views of fans who watch week in week out. I think a lot of Watford fans are generally positive about Asprilla, whereas Blackpool fans generally arent about Patino. The only people raving about him are arsenal fans, who have probably never seen him play outside of a 5 minute youtube comp. With Asprilla you feel like things just need to click and there is a serious player in there (e.g. he could have had 5-6 goals this season if he had a bit more luck / was more clinical). Im not sure the same could be said for Patino. Also he isnt really a profile of player we need (as you point out) and there are a lot of profiles of players we do need. Probably not the best use of our money.
Assists aren't the best way to judge a player, after all, a player can play a delicious ball like Asprilla has on numerous occasions this season, only for the striker to fluff the chance (or like Isak at Newcastle the other day, you can charge all the way from the halfway line, but if the ball gets a nick off the opposition, it doesn't count as your assist), or you can play a simple ball like Cathcart did to Sarr at West Brom and get an assist. Expected assists isn't perfect, but it's a better measure to see how creative a player is than raw assists
Midfielder then the AM/Winger templates of Asprilla/Patino. Not a perfect comparison as Asprilla has been used as an AM/Winger much more than he's played deeper and Patino has pretty much only played deeper. Both have their strengths!
I wouldn't swap them, but Patino does also seem promising. Yeah, and he wants to move for regular first team football.
Yeah maybe i am being a little harsh, I just dont necessarily think he is right for us / or we for him. Then again, I am not sure who we are right for, outside of 37 year old cloggers.
This is a really long thread that won’t be of interest to most, but I wanted to look through Manga’s time at Frankfurt. The ages are how old they were at the time of signing, some of the ages are probably off because I didn’t go days/months. Just when they signed for Frankfurt and the year they were born. The transfer fees are taken off Transfermarkt so take them with a pinch of salt. I also understand that Manga probably isn’t responsible for all these signings but as Chief Scout and Sporting Director, he would have been involved in most, if not all. I’ve looked at Position, Nationality, League signed from and Age. The purpose behind this/was to see what Manga’s preferences are when it come to signing players. I wanted to see if we could “expect” some of his traditional signings. Anyway, here it is. his two most signed positions. Germans and the German league(s) were his go to. 70 out of 85 signings were 27 or younger. That’s 82.3%! So if his track record is anything to go by, then we can definitely expect some signings from the Bundesliga, Bundesliga 2 and youth players from the top teams. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a German CB leading the line next season. These are some players from Bundesliga 2 that I could see us being interested in and I sent them to Reids. That's some time consuming research so thank you for sharing! Very interesting read. From my quick glance over I'd add these as potential signs to what to expect this summer; Possible the German preference was due to the fact they are German, I don't know if they have HG quotas? But obviously we do, so maybe the German heavy approach will be replaced by English heavy? The 22-27 age range is clearly a factor and so you'd guess we'll see a number of those. Lots of transfers most seasons, and as we know, we need a major overhaul. Looks like in the early years he almost bought a player for every position on the pitch. The money spent, and larger transfers happened later on in the years, so I'm guessing we are probably looking at the earlier years for the range of money to be spent? Free / loans ranging to just around the £2-3m range (and not many at the higher end) If it wasn't for the owner himself looming over it all I'd be quite excited about what we might see. Will try and ignore the owner and get behind what's going to happen, only because the optimism of a transfer window, new players and new season is part of the fun of being a football fan!
Thanks mate. It was time consuming but fun. You could well be right, I don’t know the rules in Germany in regards to HG players. If it is because of that, then as you say, hopefully we see that translate to English players who understand the championship. I remember Manga doing an interview and stating he wants players to have the “German” mentality. So I do think we will see a few Germans signed. As you say, that 22-27 age range is seems his go to, and as stated 27 and younger made up 82% of his signings. Again I agree. I think we will use the free market, use all 5 loan spots then sign another 4-5 players for under €4mil each. Oh, and I agree about Gino.
Didn't know that about him stating the 'German mentality' bit, but definitely agree with his sentiment. German players tend to do well over here don't they? Although, most of the high end German's stay over there. I guess our wages and competition level is better than their 2nd div, so we could get some of the better ones from that division.
Great post, thanks. Did you happen to do a P/L on his signings? Big assumption that he was well in the green because of some of the sales I recall. Not a problem if you didn’t.
I didn’t because the fees for players are from transfermarkt, but I can, it won’t take me long when I get a moment because I have all the numbers anyway.
These are pretty odd age categories; you can't really conclude anything from having a 22-27 age grouping when most players' peaks are about 25-29, and it doesn't seem it relates much to their thinking in signing players. To make it clearer, I've tallied the signings below by actual age (and tried to leave out some duplications). It's not hugely surprising given their reputation that the skew is towards younger players and players that are just before they are about to enter their peak years (ie mostly 23 and 24, so just before 25+). It's also notable and not too surprising that the two 32 year-old oldest signings were both GKs, as they tend to have later peaks. 16 - 1 17 - 18 - 12 19 - 1234567 20 - 123 21 - 1234567 22 - 12 23 - 12345678 24 - 12345678910 25 - 123 26 - 123456 27 - 123 28 - 1234 29 - 123 30 - 12 31 - 1 32 - 12 33 Unless those players are either youth internationals or full internationals then they currently won't get work permits.
Using Transfermarkt, so take it with a pinch of salt. Then using my math, also take with a pinch of salt, this is what I have 16/17 spent €3.8mil, made €12.05mil - Profit €8.25mil 17/18 spent €19.20mil, made €4.92mil - loss €14.28 18/19 spent €28.95mil, made €18.90mil - loss €10.05mil 19/20 spent €82.64mil, made €114.80mil - profit €32.16mil 20/21 spent €10.75mil, made €17.70mil - profit €6.95 21/22 spent €13.45mil, made €28.40mil - profit €14.95mil 22/23 spent €23.20mil, made €18.40mil - loss €4.80mi Profit €33.18mil
Good extra information and I do find some of your posts interesting. As an aside though, your comment mainly comes across as criticism. Maybe start with ‘liking’ the post, saying thanks for the obviously long amount of time someone’s put into posting something for the benefit of the rest of us and then adding in your take without the negative spin.
Based off all my research into Manga and Manga’s main man being at the B.M’Gladbach vs Bochum game today, I can see us going for one of the following Bochum Players: Keven Schlotterbeck CB on loan from Freiburg but contract expiring this summer (according to Transfermarkt). Erhan Masovic CB. Manga loves a defensive minded Serb, contract expires 2025. Takuma Asano RW/CAM. Manga wants players that will run. His output isn’t great, but with Sarr off and his contract expiring in a year, wouldn’t surprise me if we’re interested in him. As I said in the massive post earlier, Manga loves a German CB. If I was to put my house on it, I would say out of the three options above, Schlotterbeck would be my bet as to why he was at the game.
One small glimmer of light through last few years of sh1te and disappointment, is that the Pozzo's have seemed to unearth talent from South America, from Richarlison, Pedro, and Asprilla. Hopefully there is another one of two just around the corner for us to look forward to building a team around.
Going through some of the B.M’gladbach players who we could have been there to discuss today and I came across Semir Telalovic. He’s a ST, 23, playing for their B team, but again going off of Manga’s history I could see us making a move for him. Stats wise he’s having a good season for their B team. I know the championship would be a step up, however he’s the sort of cheap punt Manga likes that could work out.
