I mean Chris Wilder literally said we’re neither a good team or good individuals and everyone is loving it so which one is it?! We’re good and underperforming or we’re **** and at our level?
With a year left on his contract surely there's no chance of attracting a bid like that? I'd be made up if the club pulled it off mind you.
To be fair I had forgotten the contract situation so forgive me. £10-15m this summer with performance bonuses related as whoever’s taking him will be unsure how it’ll work out given his sketchy form but it’s a decent gamble for someone I’d say.
I think the fact you still think Sarr is still worth £20m with one year left on his deal tells us everything we need to know. Oli Watkins signed for Villa in 2020 for an initial £28m aged 24, he’d scored 26 goals and had signed a new 5 year deal with Brentford the year before, and is English.
A £35 mill player should be able to post fantastic stats in the Championship if he's playing in a mid-table side that has other players that the oppo will be concerned about. He has alongside him JP & Louza that will occupy the opponents' team talks, so his 17 goal contributions is well below par. He seems to be a £15 mill player that is actually deteriorating. GP wanted to 'double his money', but now finds he's halved it.
Your expectations of him based on a transfer fee he had no say in is your problem though. Is he a £35m player? No, be mad at Gino for over paying. Is he our best attacking contributor this year? Yes.
The problem is that he's declined massively since he came here, I won't say he was a £35m winger in his first season but he wasn't too far off, whereas now he's routinely being pocketed by average Championship defenders
Whether he’s been our best contributor is not my point; he hasn’t contributed enough considering the levels of performance he exhibited in the EPL.
I just don't actually understand why anyone would possibly want to defend him to any degree whatsoever. His blatant laziness, lack of heart and fight make him a detestable footballer even ignoring anything else. A very average, regularly completely ineffective footballer with the heart of mouse. A mouse with heart disease.
To be fair to Sarr our midfield in the PL is a level above anything we have had since or may ever have. Can you imagine the glittering prospect of Deulofeu, Pereyra and Capoue plus a on song Doucoure. That performance against Wolves when we won 2-0 at Molyneux apart from the shaky first few minutes was as good a passing and movement display I have ever seen a Watford team conduct. It was honestly like watching Barcelona at their peak. I suspect like one or two others he will flourish elsewhere. Especially in sides that offer multiple threats and play to his strengths.
Well he won something then .. https://twitter.com/EFL/status/1650241962648141826 Preston fans don’t seem too happy!
That WBA goal was the epitome of Sarr's time with us. One moment of brilliance, 95 minutes of sulking, a dreadful overall performance and a woeful penalty miss to cost us two points.
Was perfectly fine today and worked hard too. We folded when he came off but we’ve folded with him on the pitch plenty times too so won’t attribute that to his sub.
He didn’t have a lot to work with today to be fair and he get get back a bit to help break up their attacks. But from the lofty heights of the SoL away end it was easy to spot how he takes up some really odd positions at times. Watched him closely and I’m really not convinced he knows how to play as a right sided forward. Doesn’t seem to know when to press and when to offer for the overlap. Disappears into the middle when we’re screaming out for him to be available on the right. And wanders offside with the whole defensive line in sight. I guess the lack of coherent coaching he’s received over the past 2-3 seasons is shining through now.
Oh for sure, a total lack of football IQ but today weren’t for a lack of trying as many like to accuse him off. To be fair to him, I don’t think many Watford fans know what style we’ve attempted to play over the last 2 years. I genuinely don’t know what Wilder has wanted to do in any game, same for Bilic. Worryingly it’s a more damming indictment of us than it is the managers (see Palace result today).
He’s thick as mince positionally. He was praised on the radio yesterday for not hiding like he usually does…which shows just how much he has been hiding during games this season. Staggers me that people still defend him.
I think Sarr will turn down any transfer and see out his contract. He will carry on pocketing his grossly inflated salary bleeding the club dry whilst putting in his usual 50% effort. Then he will probably liven up around Easter and up his game to attract another club and a hefty signing on fee as a free agent.
I watched the Albion v Norwich game Saturday and sat in awe of the passion Jed Wallace put in. He was one I was desperate for us to sign last Summer along with Swift. Both free transfers I may add. But what impressed me the most was the tireless running of Asante. Excuse the spelling if it's wrong. He showed more heart and desire for his team than I've witnessed one Watford player perform this season. Davis should sit and watch how a forward is expected to play and work for a result.
Any rumours of anyone being interested in taking him off our hands yet? Usually there is one or two by now.
Given his performances last season I wouldn't expect a long list of clubs will want him. Leverkusen and West Ham are the only rumours which sound like they may have been put out in the hope of generating some interest. Whatever we get for him we will make a huge loss.
