I know Adeyemo got a pro contract but that was purely sentimental. I hate to say it but he is and will be nowhere near good enough. Be surprised if he ends up with a League 2 future.

Maybe you'll be right but got to give him a chance - people want young players to come through so he might be one getting that go.

I mean we never keep the really talented kids so will probably be left with the 50/50 ones.

Probably do no worse than our other strikers.

We do need to get about 3/4 in though - goodness knows who and where from though.

There won’t be any problem getting players in, however when they realise they are treated like kids and they start acting like kids that’s when the problems start!

We’ve shown with our almost 100% abysmal record of getting even a half decent striker in this season, our problem isn’t getting the players through the door…

It's been scientifically proven that it's far more effective to get 3 or 4 crap strikers in, than just one who is half decent. With Sarr and Pedro supplying a mix of Bayo, Manaj, Britt, Davis and Fletch we could not fail to score a hatful.

In my opinion, you occasionally get these 'sweeteners' at Watford to keep the fans onside. Whether or not this constitutes one of them is another matter, but sentimentality has indeed been obvious in the past. I'm waiting for Adeyemo to go on loan to a League Two side next season, before returning early because he's only made cameo appearances.

They also need to show a pathway to the first team to stand a better chance of keeping hold of the better ones, a sprat to catch a mackerel if you will.

Britt was clearly very unfit when he arrived but still notched a couple and deserved his start. I wouldn't mind him being around next season after a proper pre season.

He can barely run and is ridiculously top heavy. This is exactly the kind of player we should move away from

But is this because he was clearly unfit to start when he arrived? There was definitely progress showed by him.

Well, I don't think anyone is suggesting he should be our starting number 9. We are going to have massive squad upheaval with a limited budget and are going to need some cheap, home grown players. We probably won't be getting better value as 3rd/4th choice next season.

Don't get him me wrong, his best days are clearly behind him but he's still shown that he can get in the box and in recent games has managed to roll his defender a few times and get involved in building attacks.

He's too big to be a footballer and is now injured. He's scored two goals, one off his belly having missed the first chance and the second any keeper should save. If we are having squad reset then we don't need players like this in fact it's exactly what we don't want but have a lot of

While I agree with the sentiment, how many times have we said 'x player would be good as a backup player' only to see them be a regular?

I dunno - Britt is a player familiar with the Championship, one of our own, and seemed keen to do his best for the club. In many ways he's actually the type of player we really don't have enough of.

It was a shame to see him be the latest of many this season to pick up a hamstring injury, as I thought he'd looked a bit sharper in his last couple of appearances and was curious to see what he could potentially offer as perhaps a 3rd choice striker.

He's always been built like that hasn't he? Perhaps he might be more susceptible now (especially under our shambolic medical team), but it does seem the main reason he's not seemed fully fit is because he was well off the pace when we signed him

Hard to blame our medical team for this imo.
Obviously has been working hard in training which showed on his cameos. I'm honestly gutted for him because he certainly has showed he wants to be hear.
No brainer for me especially for a free agent.

I pretty much agree with that, but I would keep Cathcart for one more season as he's never been a problem and has bags of experience.
Can't see us getting rid of so many players tho....

No, I'm not sure I'd blame the medical team neither, although I'm sure he's got plenty more injuries to come if he does stay with us! It's clearly a fault in recruitment that we had to sign him after the window slammed shut, but as long as he's firmly established as a backup option, I don't think anyone would be too mad

Cathcart is part of the problem. He is well past his sell by date.
Slow, lacks concentration unaware of the dangers around him (The Coventry 2nd goal is a prime example) and he is just treading water.
He should have been released a few season ago.

  24. Steve Leo Beleck

Watch it again, he's about the least to blame for that goal. He holds up his player who has to turn back out and lay it off to an unmarked team mate to cross. Then the rest of the defence falls asleep.

Yup. We were already being targeted down the side because Sarr and/or whoever from central midfield was supposed to come across wasn't offering any meaningful cover for Andrews and the same carried on when Cathcart was subbed on.

Due to not being match fit. Personally thought there's something possibly to work with.

I think the people advocating keeping Cathcart (or whoever) are simply being realistic. They know that Watford will not be changing the entire squad, no matter how much we would like it, so it’s a question of the least worst options of who will have to stay.

  29. Knight GT

    Knight GT Predictor extraordinaire 2013/14

Obviously entitled to your opinion but part of the issue we've had recently is over the hill players filling up our squad who are either injury prone such as Cleverly or Kabasele or past their best like Cathcart. This summer is a chance to see the back of some of these players, not replace them with more of the same. I would rather Bayo came back and that is saying something.
Not sure how long we signed Britt for, was it just till the end of the season?

  30. wfc4ever

Rather give him a new one year deal than Cleverley for example as at least Cathcart stays fit generally .

Otherwise it will be Kabasele and probably WTE as back up to Porteous and Hoedt.

  31. Knight GT

    Knight GT Predictor extraordinaire 2013/14

I can see Cathcart staying as back up and as you say, we can't replace everybody we want to as that would not be possible. Just don't sign anymore or give out out contracts to those that never play like Cleverly or Kabasele

What's the deal with WTE, isn't it that he will be sold if his Italian team stay up (and when I checked they were 7 points clear)

We can always make them an offer they can't refuse, to buy him back though ?

Yes this was my thinking above.... Our CBs have been poor for 3 years, sierralta had a good spell 2 years back and Cathcart Mr solid.
Yes we need better but we could dump CC and just bring in another Pollock.?
We need Cathcart around whilst we look for a solid/better replacement. If sierralta miraculously reverts to his old form then OK CC can go. Portious is an obvious keeper but our recent record on CBs does not give me enough confidence to let CC go just yet....

Yes I totally agree we have done this and hopefully it can and will be rectified during the summer.
For me though Britt has shown what he's capable of in the Championship and will score goals. I'm not saying he should be starting but an option from the bench wouldn't disappoint me at all. Getting him on a free imo would be a very wise choice.
Yes to the end of the season.
