It just seems yesterday that the World Cup took place. And last week when Italy triumphed at Wembley to beat England to the European title.

Since then Italy have failed to make yet another World Cup while England will be out for revenge at Stadium Diego Maradona. Italy are all over the shop. They cannot seem to find a striker and Mancini has called up Tigre and Argentina striker Mateo Retegui for instance.

The usual suspects should qualify for Germany. Can't see many upsets. Group F looks the most interesting with Belgium, Austria and Sweden vying for the top two spots.

Will be funny when Southgate drops Maguire like a stone when he joins Villa and starts playing well. Southgate is such a massive tool.

Nice, confident start from England. Bellingham is going to be an absolute star. So good already.

Watched half hour before I got bored.

Bellingham is several levels ahead of any of the failures he plays with at this level. It’ll be a shame to see him back in England doing a Sancho next season at some ‘big club’.

That was a pretty impressive half from England in my book.

Usual negative ******* about at the back under Southgate's instructions, putting us under unecssary danger

Any relative success we have had under him has been DESPITE him not because of him!!! The man is an imbecile, under a better manager we we would have won two or three trophies with the players England have had at our disposal over recent years.

Has been - could be more than 2.

Mind you think there might have been quite a negative reaction had that penalty gone against England.
Seems to be the thing to do - even League two teams do it then act in shock when it doesn’t work.

Kane chokes penalty to cost us World Cup.

But important thing he gets his personal record of course. Well done Sir Harry!!!

The imaginary medal for ‘bestest inglund penalty taker eva even better than wayne’ will take pride of place amongst all his other imaginary medals.

I'm not sure if I'm right, but think that Jimmy Greaves is actually the best ever goal scorer for England as the 44 goals he scored was achieved in far less actual matches played.

    2-1.

    That was coming.

    Italy dominated so far.

Yes - probably worked out the time wasting wasn’t the way to go so decided to just defend properly .

Guess Shaw would have got away with that playing for Man U.

With reference to the thread on the Wigan game, that was an interesting performance from the ref tonight. He was very hot on time wasting, with three England players very quickly booked for taking too long at free kicks and throw ins. Although it was nowhere near as bad as Wigan’s antics, guess what? They didn’t do it any more! I’d like to see more of that.

Good to see 3 scumballs booked for time wasting. It’s not hard is it??

Easy to book England time wasters in Rome. In the same way that those Wigan players would have been booked at Old Trafford.

I didn’t see any of the games last night but from TuT’s post, I assume that England played Wigan at Old Trafford.

My point was it's easy to book players for time-wasting when you know it will make 60k fans in the stadium happy. It's not a case of a great referee finally clamping down on time wasting, he was just making his life easier by keeping the fans happy. He wouldn't have booked the England players if the game had been at Wembley. He would have booked those Wigan players if they had been time wasting against MU at OT instead of against little ole' Watford at VR. .

I wish the England men's team would stop entering these competitions. It would spare us the national humiliation of watching their inevitable under-achievement every two years

Should have been a comfortable win. Amazing how Italy did win the European Championships when they did. That effort from Grealish in particular.

I don't think France or any of the other top contenders for the title namely Spain and Portugal will be quaking in their boots. Maguire and Stones at the back is a recipe for disaster.

PS Jimmy Greaves for me remains the greatest striker this country has produced. I do wish that when goal records are stated they do a GPG and only for competitive games.

I thought exactly that. A perfect example of how time wasting can be stopped. Interesting thing with Wigan was why they did it. They badly needed a but wasted time from the outset

Greaves was my dad's hero and said he was a one off. Not sure on how many goals Greaves scored in competitive games but Kane has 44 so only 10 in friendlies. Not sure how many Greaves got. I thought Kane was excellent last night and you can't knock his record. Who is the GOAT I guess is open to debate. I'm going Blissett though

Rasmus Hojlund and his electric speed cements his growing reputation at Bergamo and means the vultures will be swooping this summer. Three strikes for Danmark against Finland in their opener. Return to the classic strip. And it is a classic strip from Hummel.

Cheeky bid for the Antman in the summer ?

At least with football you know approximately when it will end.

The build up to the Boat Race is longer than the Emirates what used to be a football competition FA Cup!

    Come on Cambridge!

    Well done to Rob Page.
How that new look Wales team got a 1-1 draw in Croatia was remarkable.
Croatia have won 34 and drawn 1 of their home European ties before yesterday according to the Beeb!
So to steal a draw with their only shot on target in the 93 rd minute was amazing.
    Gareth who?

    Keep it up Rob..
