Perhaps people are noticing it more cos they’re watching the game less and less…

Ok I accept that it’s been going on for ages, but has it gotten worse ? Maybe I’ve been lucky to avoid it in all the away games I’ve seen, but it seems to be happening a fair bit now.

Yep 100%. I was supposed to be taking my wife but i'm very glad she couldn't come. If I had kids there is no way i'd take a child to an away game if it was like that. That shouldn't be the case.

I wasn't there on Saturday so I obviously don't have first hand experience of how bad it was. I have however been to several away games this season. The issue with big groups being on coke has been there since at least the Pozzos first promotion season, it has also been at homes games for a while. I think what caused it to come to a head (Saturday's violence) is how toxic the feeling in both the club and wider world at the moment.

I can understand my other comment came across as an acceptance of the issue which is not what I was originally attempting to get at. I think it needs to be sorted with banning orders.

A (presumably coked-up twatt of a) fan literally ran on to the pitch on Saturday to air some kind of perceived grievance with a refereeing decision. I don't think, no matter how much attention you do or do not usually pay to the game, that that represents standard operating procedure.

Heard about this... What did they do on the pitch? Go to the players / officials or just get taken down before they got anywhere?

Saw the video of this I thought he was having a go at our players.

I did find the 20 stewards taking out one guy a bit over the top.

My comment was a little tongue-in-cheek & obviously someone running onto the pitch would have been noticed by everyone....but there could be a smidgen of 'attention wander' leading to the general carrying-on becoming more noticeable to more people.
That does not mean I am defending the act of snorting in open at games....coke is an unpleasant drug prone to causing aggression and egotism which is not useful at a footy match.

Don't worry, didn't mean to imply you did; just that it seems like to at least some degree, things are ramping up recently.

I will say that fan incursion on to the pitch is something that is becoming more and more of a problem, and is currently dealt with incredibly naively - we are still just all crossing our fingers and hoping no one with any particularly strong ill will decides to do it, because if they want to, they are able to, and that includes the authorities in charge.

We've seen several insane plebs literally physically attack players on the pitch in the past year or so, and crowd anger in general only seems to be getting worse along with the times.

No one's calling for fences to be reintroduced, but, if anything, somebody needs to be empowered to react quicker and with more strength to people entering the pitch during a game.

IIRC it was at our goal and so was the play, so they got quite close without having to actually get very far - they were stopped quickly enough, but again, I definitely can't answer whether it was quick enough to stop anything happening had they actually been a person who really wanted something to happen.

I was wondering what the composition of our away support at the Kennel will be, with the category A+ plus restriction in place for most. Then I remembered that things have been pretty rowdy at AFCB the last two or three times we have played there....

We had a clear penalty turned down. I'm surprised he was the only one who tried to get to the ref. If it wasn't for my dodgy knees and bad back I'd have been right beside him

My first encounter with it was Newcastle last season, which i mentioned at the time.

I was unfortunately sat near them for West Brom and on a train with them to Rotherham which was particularly cringe worthy.

I reckon there must be a correlation between team playing **** and fans finding other ways to make the day entertaining. Perhaps I'm just noticing it more now I'm no longer enjoying the football.

Reminds me why I never bother to go to away games. Imagine standing next to that little twerp for 90 mins+ while watching us lose ? Pretty close to my definition of hell. Then he moans that the fans haven't come over to thank the fans so they can be booed. A quick clap from about the halfway line and then bugger off would make sense to me.

Be careful criticising people who film themselves at games. You should be putting all that energy into getting Gino out.

Or so I was told yesterday.

The club must be able to identify these idiots - they can see their behaviour on CCTV .... just get hold of it with the Police and ban them for life - I don't want my club represented by these morons and neither should the owners of the club

The club have repeatedly showed that they don’t care about improving the way things are done in all departments. The idea that they would make an exception by improving the matchday experience of the fans that they view with utter contempt is just as laughable as the idea of them striving to do anything else positive or worthwhile that might require the slightest bit of effort.

Hmm think it’s a bit of a stretch to start making assumptions about the education and background of these kids!
Re the poor behaviour/drugs - I don’t think youngsters doing drugs is anything new although, as someone earlier in the thread mentioned, maybe coke is replacing booze as the stimulant of choice at the football. What I do think is that coke use has started much earlier - in my day, it was still quite expensive so weed and ecstasy (or “pingers” as I think it’s known as now) were drugs of choice for teens dabbling and coke wasn’t really a thing until your twenties. Now, I know pingers and ketamine (not a thing at all in my day) are appearing at parties as early as year 9/10 with cocaine following not long after. So I think cocaine use is much more wide spread (as it’s not as expensive) and starts much younger than when many of us on here were teenagers.
As for the accompanying poor behaviour - I do wonder if it’s no coincidence that it seems to have ramped up at a time when there is so much discontent with the club on and off the pitch.
Not condoning the little ***** obviously, but just trying to understand why the “wannabe hooligans” seem to be front and center at the moment.

I presume there aren’t issues at the home games or they just don’t turn up ?

There are many articles and reports of cocaine use being MUCH more prevalent at football in general - so I think linking it to our individual club current woes is a moot point. It’s clearly a cultural thing - and I don’t mean cultural as in peoples backgrounds - I mean cultural as it’s an evolution of football ‘lad’ culture.

What used to be an all-nighter at a rave is now an all-dayer at the football.

I would also dispute the notion that cocaine is now cheaper. I don’t, and never have, touched it - but colleagues in my profession have and I’ve been across many discussions where it’s been highlighted that cocaine is now 2x/3x more than it was a decade or so ago. Other narcotics may well have become much cheaper though, I honestly don’t know.

Probably done in the pubs and trains before and after the game - but unlikely as prevalent as won’t want to get banned from somewhere you go every other week? But getting caught at any away game would be no big deal I imagine.

I feel as though I have somehow missed out. I have never taken coke. I have never been offered coke. I have never seen coke. I don't know anyone who has taken coke.
Ditto EEs, and any other stronger form of drugs.
I must have lived a sheltered life.
I do remember MY FRIEND driving round the M25 at about 30mph while herds of horses were galloping across the motorway, jumping over the bonnet of MY FRIEND'S car, while HE screamed "I know you're not real, I know you're not real"...once c30 yrs ago after some pot which HE claimed had had no effect on HIM, but that's about it....

It’s definitely available at much cheaper prices than it was when I was in my twenties. What’s being offered may not actually be pure cocaine but that’s what it’s sold as. My friend’s daughter went from being a straight 9 GCSE student to dropping out of A Levels and ending up in a psych ward after getting mixed up in drugs and particularly coke so I do have some direct knowledge of this.

I’m not suggesting you don’t have direct knowledge and I’m sorry about your friends daughter.

I guess the price fluctuations could be attributed to locality etc. But in London, prices certainly haven’t fallen. But again, I would assume - and I apologise if wrong - that students and those on low incomes probably aren’t as fussy about the ‘quality’ and more focussed on the price, whereas ‘young professionals’ with more money in their pocket can be a bit more picky.

I’d say we are both right and both wrong personally, as it’s obviously a marketplace where you can pay accordingly for what you’re told you’re getting. So I don’t think we can sweepingly say it’s cheaper or more expensive.

I’m sure we can agree that it’s not welcome at Watford away games in the ground regardless.
