Meh. I’ve been slated for years on here for pointing out what a disgraceful owner Pozzo is. I will continue to comment on his harmful practices towards our club time and again. Just ignore me if you have a problem with it.
Standard business practice All you have to do is wait until you win the lottery and simply pay the loans back
But you'd need a separate mortgage for every new extension you decide to build....just a pity the last Bayo-shaped one simply fell down after 6 months.
On the bright side it appears Gino has zero cares for any potential FFP restrictions. Mind you he might have sold up by then anyway
Article here suggests we have the 5th poorest owners in the league, by net worth. Dare I say we're... punching above our weight?!? https://the72.co.uk/2023/03/06/ranked-every-championship-club-owners-net-worth/
I don’t think that is a great surprise but the club itself must be one of the richest ? Probably one of the most in debt too .. Not sure how accurate that is as Trevor Hemmings died a year or so ago and think Dean Hoyle stepped down from Huddersfield due to bad health ? But maybe the Hemmings family are still majority stake holders - same for Hoyle ?
I mean, for a start, obviously, worth of owner is all relative and totally contextually dependent on how much they are actually prepared to spend. Secondly, that clearly only includes Gino, and states his wealth as £99.76m (whichever arse they pulled that figure from). We all know full well that 'Gino's' fortune in isolation is pretty meaningless, if not misleading, when it comes to our finances, and that is never the figure that has been used when assessing them previously.
Not surprised. We are punching above our weight, and have been for many years, but now off the back of a hell of a lot of debt.
Under Bassini little old Watford would have been bottom of that list. GT always said we were a top 10 on the72.co.uk kind of club Some entitled fans need to be grateful for how far we’ve come
Bassini kept us in this piddly league with a bit of spare change off a few fillings and crowns he did. About time we put some respect on his name.
Nothing new is it, this info is and has been on Wikipedia for anyone to see. FFP and what has happened to clubs like Derby means that that it doesn’t really matter if your owner has got £300bn in the bank, most owners are reluctant to gamble a few hundred million of their own personal funds, only to lose it all and end up in league one trashing their investment entirely when you get a massive points deduction if it doesn’t work, hence why Forest waited until they got promoted to spend £100m+. As long as every club adheres to FFP, how rich your owner is is largely redundant, that’s the whole point of it. For the ones how haven’t adhered, more often than not it’s backfired massively anyway. Being in the PL for 5 years straight, having access to parachute payments, and having access to loan and sign players at well below market value from a serie a side is clearly, and has clearly been a far more significant advantage as a championship club than simply having a rich owner. It’s just a shame we’ve now largely squandered that advantage, save for maybe another year.
Been charging players for their food . Now apparently this happens a lot at clubs and fans probably won’t be that sympathetic but the tone of the report suggests this was rather forced into them without any consultation or dialogue before hand .
Supposedly happens a lot at clubs and has been for years at ours according to Ben Foster with players happy enough to go along with it , But clearly that mood has changed this season . TBH not many have much sympathy for the players but have they had an increase in the charge ?
I would be very surprised if they were happy to go along with it without any warning or consultation - it's a basic mark of human respect/interaction, whatever the scenario, frankly. The simplest thing in the world and something Gino repeatedly shows he misunderstands to the point of seeming megalomania/sociopathy. I don't quite get your last sentence, sorry - has who had an increase in the charge?
Was only think had they bumped the cost of the food to the players without as you say any consolation if they are suddenly unhappy having gone through with it previously . Totally agree it’s hardly a surprise they are unhappy .
It is, as you well know, the principle of the matter, and in the club’s case, a reputation for doing it. I’m sure if an employer took money out of your wages without telling you beforehand, you wouldn’t be fine with it.
They did seem to be aware of the process previously to know unless Foster is telling porkies ? Mind you we have so many new players and a lack of clear communication wouldn’t be surprised if they weren’t told !
Seems like they were paying for food previously, but now the amount they are paying has gone up, without that being communicated to them.
It's so sad when the cost of living crisis hits 20k a week footballers! Here's an idea, win a few games and im sure the win bonus's will cover it!!
There's nothing wrong with being charged for their food, and we know its a drop in the ocean with their salaries. But to not have any warning or discussion before hand is just plain wrong and would pi55 anyone off. Someone at the club has messed up on this, I doubt Pozzo or Duxbury gave the instruction to take it without informing... but it goes to show the internal structure and operations at the club are not right
I think it's entirely in keeping with the way Pozzo runs the club. Didn't they renege on paying bonuses in the cup final season? And a lack of transparency and explaining decisions runs through the club like a stick of rock.
So weird that they'd risk annoying the players for such little gain. As usual. the decision making at the club is so erratic and short-termist.
Like @TomWatfordFC says they knew about it and accepted that they would have to pay but now they've been made to pay without as you say being notified or pre-warned about it.
£300 for players is nothing but £150 for staff could be quite a big deal (depending on how this was applied). The players are close to people like kitmen and physios who are on "normal person wages". If the club has pissed them off, then the players might well be annoyed about the way their support staff are being treated rather than themselves.
