It's hardly a surprise that he is saying that bullish stuff as his contract expires at the end of June. We can hopefully get a high earner off the books (cue a 5 year extension)

One of those many Watford players a lot of fans like, because they think they’re loyal, committed to the club and a ‘good pro’ without being able to comprehend the only reason for that is we’re literally the only club in the world who would’ve given them the contract(s) they’ve been on.

Regardless of the fact he's pretty much finished after this many injuries, he still has a shout at being in our best midfield three, alongside Louza and Choudhury.

Agree. Sorry state of affairs when you think about it.

Nothing against TC as he seems a very decent guy and a model pro but he’s gash.

He’s a decent championship player and I like his tenacity which I think runs off on his team mates. I also think he is the most worthy of being captain.

Compared to some of the other insane, profligate dross we've fielded in our midfield (as well as other positions) just this season alone that may, may just about be true, but there hasn't actually been much evidence of that in recent times, and what scant there is suggests mostly the opposite, because it doesn't matter what youth academy you came from or how many international caps you have if you don't have the legs or fitness to cope with the demands of the game, whatever the level.

He has also always been a player (with us) who very notably needs quite a while to get up to (low) speed after coming back from injury - and this time it would be as a man staring 34 down the barrel, after another shockingly and unexpectedly long-term injury that arose out of absolutely nowhere.

I'm doubtful that he can be a positive, to be honest, unless that is as an extremely brief placeholder instead of Bacuna, and even then, Clevs has never actually been a functional dedicated central midfielder in a two for us. Combined with all the other reasons outlined above, I don't think we should be holding our breath for anything particularly helpful, in the way that Gino apparently brilliantly was once again throughout the January window.

I think we know where the club and the players are going wrong if they’re using a fans forum to motivate them.

Our last significant evidence of Cleverley at this level was a successful season where he was mostly pretty good. And I think a very important part of the promotion, for several reasons. For me though based on his more recent outings, it looks as though his legs have completely gone. Unless this surgery has magically fixed that, I can't see him adding much. But another midfield option, at least.

Yeah, I mean, that's what I alluded to with 'recent times'- what we have been able to see in the course of the past season and a half; going back two years to assess a player with the particular issues I've outlined, and that we're all aware of, at the age of almost 34, is seismic, and not necessarily at all instructive.

The role he played in the system in that promotion also doesn't exist in this current setup, and, as you also say, his legs appear to have completely gone - even if we did change it around to include him, at this point, and he magically got up to the fitness that he's capable of, I don't think he would be remotely capable of the same harrying, pressuring higher-up midfield role that he managed in 20-21.

Shouldn't worry, I'm sure he'll last 5 mins in his comeback off the bench and spend the rest of the season feet up again.

Sorry but tonight's injury is probably the final straw for him.

He has been a great player for us over the years, but his body is obviously not up to it anymore. So I think it should be thanks for the memories and goodbye to him in the summer.

Feel for the bloke, as he's now completely finished. Has been a good servant to the club over the years but as others have said his contract extension was madness.

Whatever you think of him, he’s clearly been excited to be playing again after so long. A potential season ender in completely innocuous circumstances must be beyond devastating for him.

Did you see him last night on his way back to the dressing room, he had his hands on his head and was obviously upset.

It's such a pity because he has been a great servant for this club, but sadly I think his body is not up to it anymore and by the look of him last night I think he knows it.

I don't know if clubs do testimonials, but if we do I think he deserves one especially if he is forced into early retirement because of injuries.

  34. Jumbolina

Yep - fund raising urgently required for "early" retirement at 33 after 6 years as one of Watford's top earners and Man Utd and Everton wages before that.

I don’t think they bother with such things these days now due to the money they earn .
