Uninspired signing imo ….. can only be a back up if we get injuries to Davis … or to bring him on for last 25mins when Davis gets puffed out
Looks like one of those home grown fill a spot we know of him type of signing. Maybe for next season particularly as doubt any of our first team strikers will be here then! Either end of their loan or sold .
It will be tough to offload Bayo, Manaj, Assombalonga & Fletcher next season no matter what league we are in. Plus Davis & Araujo leaving in the summer too (and likely JP too) Not a chance we rebuild them all so I'm not buying in to the 'here for one season' argument. Even if he does leave in the summer, it'll just mean we are stuck with one of the other duds for another season.
Don't mind this. The only negative is Adeyemo probably won't make the squad again this season. Coming off the bench regularly will do him more good than going back to U21 football but I guess playing academy kids isn't always realistic if you're going for promotion. Although technically Britt is an academy kid...
Sorry I meant Britt would stay and others would go. Probably rather him than Bayo or Manaj. But yes be hard to sell - like wise with Fletcher.
There seem to be two strands of signings. One for the future with ability and talent directed by Ubenga. The other the short term reactionary turds selected by Pozzo. We have to have the DOF in sole charge in combination with a manager he works well with as at Brighton and Brentford.
Well Manga seems to think he's got complete control! Gave up a good job at Frankfurt to come here and Pozzo is already undermining him.
Well, he said no player would be signed if he didn't want them so either he's been lied to or has signed off on this...
Agree with all the concerns, but it's also true that Manga's not *only* going to want to sign young players for small fees. He understands things like HG rules, experience, 'knowing the league' and whatever else, so it's not impossible Assombalonga is seen as an easy deal to do that can help us out. Hopefully it's a six-month contract.
He had 18 months left on his contract in Turkey, doubt he would be keen to sign for less time than that (unless he's managed to agree a deal where they've paid up a significant chunk of the contract).
12 month deal agreed, apparently. Understand Britt Assombalonga has reached an agreement on a 12 month deal with Watford. 30yo had his contract with Adana Demirspor mutually terminated - Finer details are being applied before he undergoes a medical. #WatfordFC
Should it not be 18 (or 6 ) months? Don’t want to risk losing him mid season if he is doing well for us.
Squad filling from the bottom, as per. Need better strikers? Here are some worse ones instead. Defence been weak for years? Here are some additions the same level or worse. Meanwhile here's a clutch of 19 year old South Americans for the trading factory.
If we do get rid of both of them, then maybe. As it is, however, we probably won't and next season, people like you and others will be saying 'there's no way we'll sign any new strikers for our new coach whilst we've still got Bayo, Manaj, Asspmbalonga and Fletcher.' Pozzo will be expecting his coach to get a tune out of them. The fans will just cycle through whoever has been absent longest to say 'we should start Bayo more as he's not played during the run of games we just lost' Nothing changes.
Close. This was a contractual requirement as part of Edwards' severance package. We tried to get out of it but Edwards would not compromise.
I hear he’d already agreed to join Luton in the autumn before he even joined us. Part of his Luton package was based on him sabotaging us.
Can’t be any worse than Bayo or Manaj? Don’t mind this personally, especially on a free. At least he’s got pedigree at this level…..
Free transfer and a 12 month contract. Basically zero risk signing even if uninspiring. If he does well its a masterstroke and if he doesn't we've lost very little.
Assombalonga isn't the problem, he's homegrown, and would be coming as a cheap 3rd choice option, but what does this mean for Bayo and Manaj? Are we just stuck with them?
This same logic applies to the Manaj signing and the Fletcher signing Both were a complete waste of time, leaving us lumbered with their wages and extra bloat in the squad
They'll be off to CSKA Sofia on loan. Seems to be where we dumped crap like Penaranda and Sinclair before.
Convinced he’ll still be better than Bayo & Manaj. Low bar admittedly but as far as free transfers go, I’ll take it. Injury problems the major issue, goal scoring at this level has not been a problem for Britt before.
I think the 12 month contract makes this palatable though. Fletcher is on a ridiculous 5 year deal. Not sure about Manaj.
