Could it be part of Ubenga's remit as new Sporting Director to help find a functioning medical/conditioning department?!?!

I am pretty certain hardly any of our squad get proper warm ups/downs. Losing another one today to yet another hamstring injury is proof of no preperation, be it the fault of the medical staff, fitness coaches or the players themsevles. What needs to happen is a complete overhaul of how fitness and recovery is looked at. Surely, no other side can have the consistent injuries we have right now.

We should just steal the whole conditioning department of a club like Millwall - a smaller London club that still manages to get generally lesser players performing out of their skin.

Or steal the second in command at a well-run club like Arsenal or Spurs, and put them in charge here using their knowledge to re-organise our department.

Even just having Louza fit all season, we'd be top 2 imo.

As I said on the Shoutbox, the trickiest thing is once you start picking up a significant amount of injuries it increases the load / expectations on the remainder of the squad and slowly but surely their fitness degrades into the danger zone for muscle injuries too. I don’t think that’s the only factor in what’s happening but it certainly can’t be helping.

Has to be something to do with the players being so undercooked in pre-season and then a likely very intense couple of weeks with Bilic during the World Cup break that has led to this many similar types of injuries

I'm not convinced by this as being much of a factor - we only recently had a month long break with not a huge amount of games since then; no reason why JP, Kabasele, Davis, Dele-Bashiru and Bacuna should have been unnecessarily pushed in to "the danger zone".

Gosling, Cleverley and Hause had hardly played many games prior to their getting injured either.

Cleverley and Hause were already crocked to some extent when the season started I believe. And JP was a contact injury, so not one I'd put in the same category as the others.

Before today it was 5 games in 22 days, of which 3 came in a week and the one in the middle we played just over half with 10 men. We've also not really been able to cruise in any of those games - possibly Swansea was the only one because it was finished as a contest pretty early. Game management is another aspect of this. We could do with putting some opponents to bed earlier so we can dial the intensity down a notch or two.

I'd love to know what they did in that WC break. Whatever it was it doesn't look like it was awfully great for their fitness. Maybe Rob Edwards secretly returned to take some sessions in the sun?

Perhaps Dele-Bashiru, having been injured for a long time beforehand, has been hampered by having to play any time he's been available after the break, although I suspect (without any inside knowledge) the issue here for most of them is that our training during the break wasn't up to scratch

Yes, this is definitely down to Edwards.

I'm surprised it's taken him this long. It's clear there's something going wrong here.

" He limped off soon afterwards, and Bilic was clearly no longer happy to accept it was pure bad luck.

“I’m not a doctor or a physio but at the end of the day these things affect me the most, in terms of team selection. I want answers for this,” he said.

“Continually saying we are unlucky will not bring us anywhere. " '

I couldn’t see any of our subs warming up at hall time today apart from Andrews who came on at 46 mins, could be wrong but don’t remember seeing Bacuna warming up

A professional player does not need medical staff to tell him to warm up.
A proper pro will be warming up from minute 1 ready to go on at a moment's notice .
These hamstrings are a worrying issue

They should all have been warming up as soon as the match starts .

You might be on to something there. Without proper warm ups some injuries are inevitable.

I agree - and it is something that the club needs to look at. Communication with the fans' we know is not their strong point - but player welfare, fitness and health should be top of the list. Maybe the entire training regime needs tearing down and re-structured. Problem is, games come quickly in the Champo, but then again that is not an excuse to "ease" something new in bit by bit. @Smudger has long since said we need a team Psychologist as well, and I agree. Fitness and wanting to be ready for a game should be motivating the squad. I do not blame players for getting injured, football is a contact sport after all and these things do and will happen. Problem being the rate it's happened since the start of the season is almost criminal. Whoever can make such changes, needs to make them.

Bacuna was warming up at half time. You might not have spotted him because he was wearing a top whereas Andrews wasn’t.

While I agree with wider points around fitness and hamstrings - you can only have a certain amount of players warming up on the touchline. And they are under coaches orders as to when they do - it's all orchestrated. If players aren't fit to come on, it's on those who dictate their movements.

We are a Prem\Champ club . Substitutes being ready at a moment's notice should be a given

Not true . Ben Watson for example was always warming up whenever he was a sub

  22. Moosedog

    Moosedog Reservist

You are only allowed 3 per team at anyone time to warm up along the designated side of the touchline. If Ben Watson was always warming up he was preventing another player from warming up

Ok . 3 warm up for 10 then the other 3. Rinse and repeat. No one should be cold

Because I am a nerd I have looked this up and the amount of subs able to warm up is due to the amount of space available however generally it is 3

No, its an FA ruling, or was when I was refereeing

    Fair enough
You would also know that it is the half that the lino is not on for obvious reasons .

  27. Moosedog

    Moosedog Reservist

As I said, the designated side of the touchline. As not all refs have the lino at left back. Did you know that you can have both lino on the same side on the field of play

The medical department isn't fit for purpose. Bilic has clearly had enough and is starting to speak out but this has been a problem for years now. I'm sure 14 injuries is just bad luck though...

I remember our first season in the Prem under Pozzo we seemed to have a very good injury record, but ever since then it's been a shambles, what happened in the summer of 2016?

Dont blame him and suprised its only really being highlighted as a serious problem. 15 players that is seriously a problem. On a positive note we are somehow 4th in the table without a consistent team this season so far so there is hope just get them fit ff sake

Been an issue for years - not to this extent but surely Mr Pozzo isn’t happy seeing players he pays good money to sitting in the treatment table most weeks ?

    I asked my physio.
Mark replied that it's likely to be another victim of 'Pozzomania',the constant churn of coaches bringing in their own staff and therefore different training methods.

He also said the depletion of the squad would place greater strain on the playing staff which is what SB said about Mavis at Naarch.
