I mean, we've seen him for 10 games now, he's not a Vydra level finisher, but he gets into good areas and already has 3 goals, I'd say that's very decent going!
I think he is more impactful as a sub, of which 2 of his goals have come, when he has started games he is notable by his absence on the pitch over 90 minutes
For sure, the bench is where he's going to start most of his games, but when we settle down a bit, whether he starts or comes off the bench, he'll be an asset with his ability to get into good positions!
The amount of stick he got in his first few games was disgraceful in all honesty! I get he's a Bayat client, I know we all think Bayat is dodgy etc etc, but he's done ok so far. £5m doesn't go a long way these days, so his goal return thus far in the minutes he's played has been respectable.
He’s played the equivalent of 5 1/2 games and scored 3 - so better than 1 in 2. The collective wisdom on the forum was that Bayo was a £1m player! His link /overall play isn’t great, and hopefully will improve. But if he continues his goal output, then £5m is a bargain
£5m for a player that is useless apart from 10 minute spells off the bench. Keep these deals coming Mogi!
Was reading a book I got for xmas last night and Bayo randomly popped up in it. Might be interesting for some:
Bit like Davis ? Might do some good things but isn’t going to get a lot of goals or chances ? Not ideal for a striker - who cost a lot of money .
Point of order, people are/were saying Bayo is only a £1m player because that is literally what Charleroi paid for him at the end of the 21/22 season (and hence he played no more football to increase his value by 500%), before flogging him to us for £5m a month or so later.
Was that not a pre-arranged buy option that Charleroi used? If so, that's what his value was in the January of that season, when he signed for them on loan. He then went on to score 11 goals in 17 games, hence his value went up. Not that 11 goals in Belgium mean he's worth £5m, but a bit of context needed.
Indeed - but people are probably using the £1m to emphasize the point of what a poor signing it has been. The poster who generally blames entitled fans for our problems, posted the below on this very thread - amazing! Talk about jumping to conclusions on a small sample size. How those posters who questioned the Bayo signing have been proved wrong just as they have about Kalu. Bargains the pair, and nothing to do with sorting out the Bayats. "He’s played the equivalent of 5 1/2 games and scored 3 - so better than 1 in 2. That was in October when he at least seemed to get on the pitch for a period of time . Now doesn’t get that now very often . Bilic obviously doesn’t think much of him .
Yes it was - but the point was a couple of sub appearance goals wasn't enough to start claiming the signing may be a bargain and crowing about the "collective wisdom of the forum". And yes - Bilic clearly thinks he is poor.
What he did at Charleroi whilst on loan was no more impressive than what he did at Streda and Tolouse to earn him two transfers that valued him at no more than £2m each time. Whichever way you slice it for a team who had never spent a penny on players under Gino whilst a Championship club, £5m was way, way over the odds for a substitute striker who now doesn’t even get on the pitch.
They are, but it's an irrelevance. He was valued at £1m, had a really good run of form, and was then valued higher by a team who had just signed him on a long contract. Pretty clear it looks like we overpaid, but I would be interested to see what would have happened if he came in and was used as the main man, starting every week. His link up play is significantly worse than Davis', but if he'd started every game this season I think he'd be pushing towards double figures, in which case the fee would look a little more reasonable. I think the team would suffer, but it would be nice to have more of a poacher/finisher in the box. Looks okay in the air too, and it's currently pointless crossing the ball to Davis.
You can just say you didn't know about the buy clause Charleroi used and that you made a mistake, it's fine! 10 goals in 16 games in Slovakia. 10 goals in 31 games in Ligue 1. 11 goals in 16 games in Belgium. Have a think about the respective levels of the leagues he's scored in. The record in Belgium is comfortably more impressive, but again not worthy of £5m, especially for a Championship club with a lik "Whichever way you slice it for a team who had never spent a penny on players under Gino whilst a Championship club, £5m was way, way over the odds for a substitute striker who now doesn’t even get on the pitch." Well, duh!
Fair - but wasn't he shocking in the air? I seem to remember some really poor headed efforts from decent chances in the games he has played. I also think it's inconceivable we would have paid £5m if the Bayats weren't involved (or indeed even looked at the player). I'd argue whether they extracted an extra £1m or extra £3m is also an irrelevance. It's the fact it happens at all. The Pozzo relationship with that agent is a disgrace.
I think he's been okay aerially, from the very few decent crosses he's had to attack. Couple of shanked (can you shank a header?) ones though. Yep it looks likely this will be one of Mogi's duds rather than a Mogi Money Maker. Hopefully Manga's arrival means we'll rely less on his network in future.
That would make him one of the top scorers in the division so far? Genuinely, do you really think that?
It’s just the new manager bounce isn’t it? From a team who didn’t need a bounce as their manager was poached for over performance.
I agree that it's also inconceivable we would have paid £5m if the Bayats weren't involved - but it's also why I still think some of the fees we've paid for Bayat players must be red herrings to a degree. As with the obviously nonsense fee Udinese gave us for Kamara, I wouldn't be surprised if the Pozzos have used fees given to the Bayats as a way to shuffle/funnel money elsewhere (in the case of the Bayats seemingly as an efficient way for the Pozzos to move some of their money to Luxembourg). The inflated fees are just ways to facilitate the money transfer.
I think it at Birmingham he had a few chances to score and v Preston too although Manaj made a hash of things too in that game .
Based on his knack of being in the right place at the right time, and his current minutes per goal rate, I don't see why he couldn't have 7-10 goals from 25 starts?
Part of the 'new manager bounce' is players putting in an extra 10% to impress the new boss and keep/gain a place in the team. Not saying that's the case here, but definitely a possibility.
Well I guess in the battle of the new managers v QPR they got the “bounce “ But it’s not like the one West Brom and Middlesbrough have had .
