Except the highest level of women's football isn't even men's Isthmian League standard.

As manager of a women's football team.

There is absolutely no evidence that that translates to her being "superior to" a number of EFL managers or in any way capable in the men's game, which is different for so many obvious reasons.

There's no proof either way, which is why it's a ridiculous thing to say.

The US women's national team (winners of the last 2 women's World Cups) lost 5-2 to FC Dallas's Under-15 boys team!

Australia women's national team (while at the time 5th in FIFA world rankings and recent WC Quarter-finalists) lost 7-0 to Newcastle Jets' Under-15 boys team.

It's therefore pretty obvious that a semi-pro men's team from the football pyramid would have no problems against Chelsea/England/whatever women's teams.

The first question he would have asked is how much money has the club got to spend on players. Either the Pozzos have got some money squirreled away somewhere or (and more likely) fresh investment is incoming. The club would not have brought him and the staff he wanted (i'm sure at great expense) if it wasn't so.

Exciting news, and an excellent response to the general recruitment shortcomings of the last few years.

Would being tactically aware, well organised, good people manager, proof of improving players come in to it. I would rather have Emma Hayes than Rob Edwards or Paul Ince although in fairness I would rather have a dog turd than Paul Ince

Again, all in the women's game, which is different on all sorts of levels. Zero evidence whatsoever she'd be able to perform in the men's game.

Paul Once is a ***** manager, yes. No actual reason to believe Emma Hayes would be better in the men's game, though.

Helena Costa’s successor as Clermont Foot’s manager is now manager of the France women’s team where she has done a mediocre job. At Clermont, she managed three seasons. They finished 14th the season before she arrived and then 12th, 7th and then 12th under her tenure before being picked to manage France women’s team. That seems to me (without significant knowledge of 2014-17 Ligue 2) to be roughly par management. While it is obvious that the physical level of the women’s game would be signicantly lower than senior men’s football, why would that be the case with management. Tactical knowledge, man management skills - these are not physical traits - so while there may be different tactical dynamics between the male and female game due to the physical gulf, there is no reason why a woman could not excel at coaching or management. And I would hazard that the best woman would be superior to the 50th best man.

Besides, we all watched Emma Hayes on TV dissect and explain tactics. And we’ve watched Alan Shearer or Jermaine Jenas or Rio Ferdinand etc do the same. I know who I found more impressive and knowledgeable (although I’d also fancy my chances of winning a header against Emma Hayes better than my chances v Rio).

    Hello,
Busy, Ski season has begun. A bit late due to poor snow at the moment.
Helena Costa is seen as a bit of joke in French football circles.
The feeling is that she 5hit herself and resigned before being found out at CF.

Exactly this. I coach a girls team and a boys team and the managers are world's apart. One of them is an excellent motivator and tactically astute, the other shouts at the drop of a hat and has a different formation each week. Management is purely dependent on the person.

Whilst I agree with this - there can simply be no escaping the fact that a woman, in the current climate on football, would very likely struggle to get the respect of the players in a men’s team.

That’s not to say that one shouldn’t be given the opportunity to try - but I just think we are likely to see a fair few failures before one is successful in crossing over. Emma Hayes as one of the first, would likely be a disaster and sacked within a year.

Really is only “two” options left for Gino now.

    1. Splash the cash in January and go for promotion. Not happening so option 2.

    2. We allow Ben and his team the time required (like Frankfurt did) to sign quality youngsters and start again. Go for promotion in 2-3 years. This is also not happening as Gino is too trigger happy to build anything.

Also the fact that all indications we have to date suggest the Vic will have been repossessed by a posse of hired bogans by that time, if we haven't made it up.

Option 2 would be my way of going, we need to replace the dross and players that just dont care but we have so many of them it will take time.

Problem is we're unlikely to have a pot to piss in if we don't go up, it's going to have to be punts. Educated punts, perhaps, with this guy in charge, but punts nonetheless

That is Hayes nickname. I didn't give it to her.
I think you will find that one Ladies team, not in the so called WSL were beaten 26-0 at the beginning of a season and 19-1 at the end of the season by a Sunday league side.
Also on YouTube, they are highlights of a professional team (male) 3 a side winning 11-0 against a non WSL 11 a side ladies team.
Of course, it could be all good editing.

Objective now has to be putting together a squad to win the play-offs. Because there is no way we get autos.

You think putting together a squad to win the play-offs requires anything different from putting together a squad to just get promoted?!

The objective should be ensuring a top half finish this season and then using the next few windows to clear out the unholy amount of dross we've accumulated in the squad. While bringing in replacements for next to nothing as we won't have a pot to p!ss in.

First step will be to ensure we finish in the top 6, which certainly isn’t a given. If we do, with a fit Louza, Pedro, etc we should stand more than a 25% chance of winning it.
