I watched David Lean's 'Great Expectations' this morning. Edie Martin and her one line had more impact than Freddie today. Sadly this is too often the case. Great Expectations indeed.
Was it only this summer when people were saying we should cash in on Sarr and I made the case for keeping him because he is (on his day) one of the few players who can really turn a game on its head, can blaze past defenders and create and score goals from next to nothing. I said he was one of the few players in the squad capable of being genuinely exciting. Well, I'm sorry. I take it back. Three games in four he proves that talent is nothing without commitment and work.
Such a shame as he seems a lovely lad. How much would we get? Lucky to scrape £20m at best. Who'd buy him? No one in top half of the PL. Everton? Saints? Gadeside Rangers?
I can't decide if he has regressed, or not progressed under us. In either situation, what he's offering to the team is quite negligible.
*Three games and everything except maaayyybe possibly one or, in a real blue moon, two brief moments of the fourth in four
Almost three years now since he scored that brace v Liverpool. Those goals have turned out to be one of the worst things that have happened in the history of our club. He'd have been dropped years ago but for that match.
I was reliably informed even when he has a poor game he gets double marked and provides space for others, how did that work out for us yesterday?
I think we're being a bit harsh on Sarr, I mean he did play 90 minutes against Huddersfield over a week ago. The poor guy must be knackered, it's not like he can just take a break and come back when he feels like it. Oh wait...
Noticed a few other managers were saying players wanted to come back early etc to play. Whereas when Sarr was asked to be back he demanded a few more days off .. That is the difference in commitment. But then if you play for top teams you probably aren’t guaranteed a starting spot whereas Sarr is . I mean he’ll probably play well at Swansea as they aren’t physical or as likely to tackle him . Mainly because they will have most of the ball !
Yep, Swansea dominated our amazing midfield of Choudhury and Kayembe. Think what they'll do to poor TDB and Bacuna!
More like the injury to Deulofeu turned out to be one of the worst things that have happened in the history of our club. We probably would have stayed up otherwise and then perhaps had a more comfortable season the following year with Estupinan and Suarez in the team.
Not a chance we would have stayed up even with a fit GD. That Liverpool game was a brilliant night but we were turd all season.
We’d want to cash in on Sarr surely ? Not just agree a loan . https://mobile.twitter.com/Sam_ucko/status/1607730433248165889
I saw this tweet in the summer window too. The only way this type of deal makes sense is if there is an obligation with an OTT transfer fee attached.
We were only 1 point and 2 goal difference away from staying up! It's not outlandish at all to imagine we wouldn't have found that extra point or two had we not been without one of our only two dangerous attackers for the remaining games.
The trouble was COVID and not wanting to comeback /trying to get the season cancelled. Then we weren’t fully focused on the re start or had players who’d rather break Government guidelines and make the club look rather silly !
Indeed. Not to mention that the club were so utterly convinced that the season was not going to resume that they briefed journalists to that effect. It wasn’t a surprise at all to see us ludicrously undercooked when it returned.
I agree. Van Dik should be a massive hate figure among our fans, but most of them look for Liverpool's results before Watford's.
There has to be a shout for Sarr being one of our worst Pozzo signings when you take into consideration how much he cost and his actual input.
When he took that unauthorised break he shouldn't have been allowed to walk straight back into the 11. Bilic is trying to be pragmatic and win games but there needs to be some values and some discipline instilled in the team. Going AWOL from training is usually grounds to be removed from the matchday squad and fined, here you get a spot in the 11 regardless.
