Hope the kidney was worth it. ;) Some of the prices on the latest graphics cards esp. the GTX40 series are astronomical. Is there anywhere that sells Othercide in a physical format ? I hate having a game just on steam.

Yeah, they are. I kept my current build for 10 years, though, so I feel OK going hard on the new one.

My new monitor came yesterday. A 32 inch 4k at 160 hz. And good grief, the step up is enormous...

The old adage is a bad workman blames his tools, but I am already performing much better in Overwatch, without any doubt. It's just easier to see people/heads, do to a combination of sharper image, size of model increase relative to my eyes, practically zero motion blur, and really low response times/latency. Lovely stuff.

Got my 4090 now and it is a truly absurd performer. Some games are running at 4k with max settings and still getting hundreds of FPS. Looking forward to seeing what the updated Witcher 3 can get with DLSS 3 turned on!

It is also absurdly large. I had millimetres to spare getting it into the case.

Has the GBA been forgotten so soon???

    Fairly good em' here:

    https://browncha023.github.io/GBA/

It's not bad... forgot to mention the controls to save people having to fanny around smashing the keyboard:

    L-Bumper: A
    R-Bumper: S
    B: Z
    A: X
    Start: Enter

    Left/Right/Up/Down: Arrow Keys

Has anyone released a game that properly utilises the PS5 potential?

They all seem to be up rez versions of PS4 games, consequently my white monster is collecting dust,

Same as our XBOX X - it's mainly used as our home's media server. The Halo game was 'alrightish' but nothing special...

Now I finally have a decent gaming PC, is it worth picking up "Cyberpunk 77"? It's half price (£25.00) on steam for a few days. I've checked my specs and can run it on mostly all high settings so performance/framerate will not be a problem. Has anyone played it? What did you think, and is it worth the price drop? I do want Elden Ring but cannot justify the price right now. FromSoftware seem to never put any of their games on reduced prices.

Brilliant game. One of my favourites of the past couple of years. Did you get it in the end?

If not, look on cdkeys.com. Generally cheaper 95% of the time than buying directly on Steam, even when Steam has a sale on.

Finally got around to playing and completing God of War, now that it's on PC. What a f**king game.

Now depressed I'll probably have to wait another 12-18 months for Ragnarok to show up on PC.

I purchased Cyberpunk in the Steam sales alongside Enter/Exit The Gungeon & Disco Elysium.

Finished Disco Elysium, what an incredible game! Played nothing like it before so had to adjust but its a game that will stay with you for a long time, well worth a purchase.

Enter The Gungeon is an incredibly fun game to pick up and play. Really recommend it.

Havent got around to Cyberpunk yet, Im playing through high on life as a 'cleanser game' after playing two incredible games in God of War Ragnarok and Disco Elysium.

God of War 2018 better than Ragnarok but two great games, @NathWFC just get it on PS4, that's what I did, didn't regret it and not about getting hit for spoilers on a game experience like that even though I'm on PC.

Yes I did. It was alright, reminded me a lot of GTA and Sleeping Dogs. Loved Night City - as a location it's got to be one of the best designed virtual world's ever created. Jackie was a great character, V was pretty smart-arse but I liked the personality in the time the game was set. I ended up playing a female V and losing my erm.. "V Card" to Judy ;) Some of the side missions were pretty funny. Bloke with his "member" on fire was awesome. If I had one gripe, there were too many NCPD side jobs. Cars were fantastic and the fact you can steal them from anyone was a nice feature. Voice Acting was spot on - music on the radio was brilliant. I would easily give it 8/10. It's just a shame CD Projeckt Red never had time to fully transform Night City to the extent they promised in the build up but what they did manage to put out (with all free DLC) is very impressive. Keanu Reeves as Johnny? Wow.

This game is a one of a kind experience.

Bought it. Started a new game. Made my character after taking a fair bit of time to read through the very numerous options. He's a big brain type with elevated mental stats, and low physical stats.

Exited character creation. Game starts. First thing I do is try to retrieve a necktie from a ceiling fan. My character fails to do so. Being physically frail and unfit, my character has a heart attack and dies. I hadn't even saved yet.

I laughed so hard. Brilliant stuff.

One day there will be a lifelike simulation of Hadley Central. Can imagine running out of the APC to gain access to the facility.

Something for the old schoolers, I had no idea AVGN was still going, got a bit of catching up to do!! It seems his hair has gone to the same place as mine!

2007 Started wtih Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest. I will say he has lost a bit of his charm (he seems to include a lot more people which distract from his own thing), but I still really enjoy his content. Sure, he's made a mint off it by now and fair to him. He's a bit like the 'Nostalgia Critic' nowadays. Well known and been going for ages.

My trusty old Razer gaming mouse has finally giving up the ghost after nearly a decade. Went to look for a new one and nearly fell off my chair at the prices.

I don’t mind paying a bit if necessary but anyone have any recommendations? Would prefer a wireless but wouldn’t discount a wired. Think I need a few extra buttons for games like Cyberpunk and Prey (was struggling enough with just the extra 2).

Only really getting back into PC gaming recently after a long time on PS so I’m a bit behind. I assume Razer are still decent?

Given the advances in AI, processing power how long before we can undertake simulations of historical events. Refight a particular battle as a unit commander with others on our team against other opponents ? Not the sort of unrealistic 'simulations' today but where the AI is rethinking it's strategy and tactics commensurate with historical norms and where all the data ie weapon ranges, ballistics, is accurate to the nth degree.

It is pretty incredible how good the modern game engines are getting. UNREAL 5 can produce some stunning graphics, and the level editors are getting very true to life and complex. Even Unity, which is considered more of a hobbiest game engine has got some very good updates. For realism, look no further then Capcom's in house RE Engine. Even a few years back, playing RE 8 Village, Lady D's castle was incrediable to look at and walkthrough. Remake of Resident Evil 4 is breathtaking as well. I remember when people marvelled at the graphics of a PS3 game (and to an extent, some still look decent today) it's amazing how far engine's have advanced in the span of less than twenty years.

What specs do you need to play a game on a computer these days? I haven't played a game since GTA San Andrea's on PS2.

Depends very largely on the game in question. Today, anything running an i5 or a Ryzen 5 processor with a standard graphics card (AMD or Gtx), and at least 8GB of RAM to play most games within the last few years on standard settings. To go for Ray Tracing, 4K and all that Jazz, your going to have to payout a fair bit more. An i7/Ryzen 7 or even an i9/Ryzen 9 (a bit overkill) and at least 16GB of RAM with a good graphics card AMD RTX 5800 is a very good one which isn't too expensive at the moment. That will play almost 99% of current games on the recomended settings without any problems. I would also advise using an Optical Drive over a Hard Drive, with a least 500GB of free space.

There are not many games. if any, that fullly utilise 32GB of RAM, so 16GB is more than enough for memory. Of course, it's almost impossible to have the absolute "best" gaming PC, as they are updated just as quickly as mobile phones are. With Silicon also in demand, upgrading any part of it could be an issue, but this is slowly disolving as a problem now. Whichever one you decide to go for will really depend on the sort of games you want to play, and if your interested in online multiplayer. I grew out of consoles a year or so ago. Since I use a computer everyday for work, it seemed logical to use one for my gaming too. Best of luck, and check some websites that can pre build one for you, or you can buy one out of the box. Most if not all modern ones can be upgraded, but again that does depend on the Motherboard and how much extra RAM it can hold.

I've got 3.1 ghz of ram and 8gb of memory with an Intel Iris Plus graphics card

My favourite games back in the day were Resident Evil, GTA and Metal Gear Solid.

Also, I can't even see the difference between normal res and 1080 so 4k is a waste of time for me.

  23. SkylaRose

    SkylaRose Administrator Staff Member

That's more or les equivalent to a mid range i5/Ryzen 5. Iris Plus is good also Anything should be playable on lower to mid settings, but you may get bottle necks in frame rate due to the lower RAM.

Same for me actually. My PC is pretty beefy but I very rarely run any game on full settings. The more power you extract the hotter your GPU will get. They are made to handle heat up to at least 75 degrees during gaming and sometimes more. It should never exceed 90. Only games I have running on full specs is Skyrim and Fallout 4. Just because they are both older games and are not much of a strain to run on modern hardware maxed out.

Download Steam, which is basically a gaming platform application for PC's. You can then download the games onto the designated drive and play them through the Steam launcher. Steam will automatically know where the executable is for each game when you want to play it. They have quite a few free games to download and test out first, but you will have to pay for the rest. As it's all digital you never need discs again. Although if you have a port for an external cd drive on your laptop you can get the games on disc and install them onto your designated drive that way, bypassing Steam completely. They will only run as fast as your drive can read the information, but you do get a better idea of specs etc. due to it all present on the game box.

@wfcmoog I have to say, in defence of consoles, you don't have to play the upgrading hardware games for a few years. Also I'm still waiting for a game that fully utilises our xbox x's capabilities (I've heard similar for the PS5). Additionally, the console is perfectly able to act as a more media system for streaming, say for instance, 'home movies' from files on your computer 'obtained' from elsewhere (Plex).

Also, I've shown my SteamDeck to some of the hockey guys who utilise very highend gaming laptops (Alien Ware) and they were very, very impressed. I never got into gaming on my laptop and, conversely, I've got all the bits to use my SteamDeck as a laptop (folding bluetooth keyboard with trackpad and a dock/mini-kick stand) but haven't felt the need...

@wfcmoog Steam is very good - the have frequent (and entirely random) sales were the prices really drop AND they have a policy of under 4(?) hours gameplay and if you don't like it you can get a refund and delete it from your Steam account.

Also the Steam account is 'yours' it's not tied to a single device.

Just ignore the Steam Acheivements, they mean absolutely nothing when compared to Xbox and PS Trophies. No score to build up, all you get is a little badge now and then. I used to really try to 100% games on consoles, but now they are an after thought. Not the fault of the developers, but it's more on Steam's side for not doing anything interesting with them. One of the reasons is it's very easy to simply "hack" the acheivement protocol and gain all the achievements that way. As long as their is third party software to cheat a system, there is no point in making anything good out of it.

That might be down to your monitor. Doesn't matter how good your video card output is if the monitor is trash.

I upgraded from 1080p on an old monitor to 4k on a decent monitor and the difference is so stark that Helen Keller could see it.

First Star Wars game with a female protaganist. Interesting. I'm quite surprised they never got Daisy Ridley to do motion capture and voice acting to have Rey as the main character in her own game. I didn't really like the "new" trilogy as it just took what the classics did and added bits or copied them. Still, I did quite like the other Star Wars game where you were that ginger dude.

This little boy little boy would like decent SW and AvP games.

ITK gossip is that she's very 'difficult' to work with due to her being a "self-made megastar" (it's not that she got lucky in casting cf Emma Watson & Lena Headie), wouldn't touch the post-film SF fandom/world with a barge-pole (cf Alec Guinness, Harrison Ford, Liam Neeson and Christopher Ecclestone) and is said to be highly 'caffeinated' 99% of the time.

Also in, the very 'meh', SW:BZ you can play female characters?
