Bristol City 0-0 Watford - 12/11/2022

Discussion in 'Match Day' started by BeersThen, Nov 9, 2022.

  1. Including the silence for the fallen. Announcer: "After the reading, and the last post will be played followed by a period of silence for us to reflect which will end on the referee's whistle."
A few Watford fans who hadn't finished their beers: "Luton get battered..." "shhhhhhhhh!!..."
    "They will not grow old..."
    Last post plays.
Before the the last note is finished, oaf in Watford end, top of voice: "Come on you Golden Boys!"
People have to start clapping to cover the shame. What a ******* ******, whoever you are.

We won't have £15 to spend in January, we'd need at least £15m to sign him!

And that's already committed to Davis if we do go up - even though I like him, I can't see how that isn't going to be hamstringing us as well as representing fairly poor value a level above, as it stands.

Agree but no chance. How much would he cost? £15m? I’m sure we could find a few million to sort out Bayat, but those kinds of funds feel well beyond us.

    Except for Davis it seems..

OK - if that’s the case, do you think that affected us more than the stomach bug affected the Luton players? I’d like to think our historic victory was entirely (or pretty much) down to us and the Welsh goblin was just making excuses.

The Welsh goblin didn't roll out that excuse until after they'd already lost, which suggested it was nonsense.

While Bilic said it was an issue a day prior to our game and even Bilic himself was clearly under the weather.

    Yes certainly.

We'll be looking to avoid spending anything if we don't go up I suspect.

I mentioned this in the player thread but, for what it's worth, the latest Football Manager has it down as £7.5m rather than £15m, which sounds far more realistic and fair.

It may be completely wrong but they're usually fairly accurate with that sort of stuff and there must be a reason they've gone against other reports about the potential fee.

The highlights are hilarious. Our only chance was Bayo launching it over the bar then tripping up when he's jogging back to the half way line.

Yes Davis for that kind of fee as a squad option sounds reasonable if we went up. Much more than that and there'd likely be better options available for the fee and it would reduce our ability to bring in an additional striker to compete with him for the starting spot.

I don't mind the idea of signing Choudhury if we went up - he needs creativity alongside him, but he's been one of our best players this season. Also the emphasis in the PL would be a bit more on defending than creating anyway, and there won't be many better other ball winners potentially available.

If we can get him on a free Gino might consider it. But probably not even then.

Yeah, I did see that but also that French had reported £15m - fingers crossed they know something he doesn't, eh, although I can't instantly think of a reason why it would be in our interest to let the prime club journo think we were on the hook for paying double what we actually were for a player!

Due to complex family arrangements I was high up in the Dolman Stand, quite impressive (the stadium, not the match). Could see a house I used to live in.
Shame some **** in the away end couldn't manage to get through the readings and Last Post with a bit of respect.
I'm suspiciously thinking City pipe crowd noise in - there were times it was fairly loud yet no one I could see were doing much shouting.
Burger was a bit weird and £6.50.

When they did their red army chant from the corner area the noise was pretty impressive to be fair. I got the feeling that when the ground is full it would be a cracking atmosphere.

Just a shame it's so d*mn far from the city centre.

I'd forgotten about that on my list of embarrassing fan moments! Even the players and ref seemed confused and had to abandon the minute's silence because our end started clapping.

Not as far as Rovers. Isn't the part of Bristol south of the Avon* (where City reside) generally considered the classier part of the city?

*My mistake earlier, the Severn doesn't go through Bristol.

Went to a works doo instead and almost cancelled that last minute for the football, I am so glad I didn’t from what I have seen on here and the highlights. I think we are starting to look a bit leggy and the World Cup has come at an excellent time for the players and coaching staff. I would have snapped your hand off to be in 4th place at this stage, after all I was concerned after the awful display at Blackpool that we may even get relegated let alone challenge for promotion. It is very positive we are where where we are in the league despite all of the injuries and dysfunctional squad, if we can get and keep players fit and bring in a couple to fill the gaps then who knows!

From my fairly limited knowledge of Bristol, the most expensive part of the city is the bit around Clifton - Sneyd Park - Redland; which is all north of the Avon and pretty equidistant as the crow flies from the two stadiums.

No, it's not. Pretty much the opposite, although there are some up and coming 'bohemian' areas like Southville (very close to Ashton Gate).

    Saw this elsewhere :

“At half time the City team of 97-98 were welcomed back for the 25th anniversary of the season in which they won promotion to the second tier”

Hope we reminded them who actually won the title ?!

Yeah, saw a Twitter post by Shaun Goater talking about celebrating ‘the’ promotion 25 years ago and fingers and toes later I realised it must be that one. Shows how far we’ve outpaced them in the last quarter century that that’s simply a fondly thought of but now distant season.

The City fans did not starting singing until the 60th minute. Very quiet crowd considering the size of the Stadium and available support from the local area.
Brizzle have big plans for the future. Conference centre, Hotel and leisure facilities to be built on land next to the Stadium. An upgrade at Parson Street Station is possible.
Landown wants to upgrade the away end next and then look at investment on players.
My 10yr old said that one stand looked like a larger version of the one at Yeovil Town.
It's a shame that it is so far out of the City .
