What has his current injury got to do with the physicality of the game?

I do agree with your wider point that’s it’s not really linked per se.

However, the question you’ve asked can be answered more generally by saying a more physical player defends their body better. Could that have happened here? Unlikely. It’s bad luck. But any injury can be linked to the physical levels of a player in some way.

You cannot be serious. Are you honestly suggesting that foreigners have weak bones compared to British players?

This injury is pure bad luck on his part.

This is a bit of a disaster . Not because Louza was a bad signing .He has looked a class act so far in the few games he’s played and well capable of handling the physical side of the game .

We haven’t got anyone any where near his quality to come in, so it’s more not signing any adequate cover that will cost us .

Will the Swansea player get into trouble now or do they think he did spit but have no real proof?

    I wonder if that's a political decision.

He's out for months anyway now, so why risk upsetting anyone if it was a borderline case? Those who wanted him punished will probably be more than satisfied by a broken bone and months on the sidelines.

As far as I can tell he wasn't particularly injury prone before Watford?

Sorry but not having that. The injury on Wednesday could happen to anybody and nothing to do with his ability to play in England. Has looked more than comfortable with the physicality of the games. This is not one to beat Mogi and Pozzo but there are plenty of others

Agree to disagree. Irrespective of latest injury the large fee spent last summer was a criminal use of our limited funds given other needs. It was done fairly instantly after promotion funds were received. Furnishing Bayat was the driver here, not the needs of the team.

I do agree there are more outrageous examples as at least Louza looks decent on the rare occasions he is available.

When he arrived I thought we might be in a position to splash the cash a little bit as £9m isn't a huuuge amount, but it did indeed transpire that for all his qualities, it was an inefficient use of limited funds. It's hardly his fault on this point as he's had horrendous injury problems this season, but it looks like we can't even say that he at least got us promoted like we can with Sarr

While it's obviously devastating for him to miss the World Cup, it's a small mercy to us that the World Cup is happening when it is as it's simply a month of nothing he's missing for us

  25. UEA_Hornet

    UEA_Hornet First Team Captain

Yeah but then he's going to miss several more months of something before and after the World Cup in which the 6 or so fixtures that would have been played in that period will be played instead. I'm not sure there's much gain to us either way.

Agree. We have no midfield engine with him out - he dictates the play so well and can pick a great pass. He could be out past Xmas and we have nobody even half that good as a replacement, although Asprilla does have the makings of a great player and Sarr/Pedro are good but too inconsistent.

Indeed, this is why we literally must recruit in January. Again, realistically we should be trying for a free agent, as even Bilic himself mentioned at the time of injury, but that ship has very likely sailed at this point. That's just about forgivable given the difficulty of finding the appropriate character, if we are indeed ready and poised to pull the trigger the second the clock strikes midnight on December 31st. Of course, I literally said exactly the same thing last winter, and, of course, we won't be.

  30. Halfwayline

can’t disagree but if, by Jan, it looks likely that we won’t be automatically promoted then I would see JP and potentially Sarr being moved on to balance books. That will mean we need RWB, CB, more forward options and upgrades in midfield…just won’t happen

Supposedly the JP contract extension was designed to rubber stamp the fact that there'd be no chance/worries of him agitating and being off in January, because they're determined to have him here for the season spearheading the charge. Given what Forest did last year, I'd be surprised if it's possible for us to be in such a position as for Gino to think we literally have no hope to the point of contravening that and fire sale-ing off the family jewels. Particularly with what fairly clearly appears to be Gino's belief that we desperately need to get promoted for the financial health/survival of the club.

Of course, though, indeed, as I said, it's perfectly possible that it won't happen, because Gino is labouring under two conflicting driving forces whilst remaining incapable of understanding the relationship between the two.

And presumably from that point (if indeed he's actually over the injury by then) he'll need time to get fully up to speed

Seems the FA tried to appeal the independent panel's finding that Louza was not guilty of spitting at the Swansea player but lost that too!

Summary and full PDFs of the reasons here:

    https://www.thefa.com/news/2022/nov/24/louza-update-241122

Seems a bit bonkers it ever got as far as it did given the appeal board's conclusion that, "this case was solely one person’s word against another. The video evidence does not show the act complained of..." and "There was no identification by the referee of any evidence of spitting whether by seeing it happen or seeing saliva on the complainant when he approached the referee".
