Last night confirmed that we are a bog standard average championship football team. I suspect we'll finish somewhere between 7th and 12th, winning and losing an equal amount as we go along.

It's time to enjoy the ups and downs of championship football, which is much more entertaining than the premier league, play the odd youngster along the way and accept this is our standard.

Trouble is not sure we can afford to enjoy Championship football without some sort of financial crisis looming alongside it.

And I really think players will be put off coming eventually if we keep sacking managers after every dodgy run of form .

Might mean we have to play the kids though but anyone decent has probably long gone.

From a footballing point of view your probably right - we’d need a Forest type transfer policy to even try and stay up which isn’t going to happen .

Exactly that. I've no problem with being in the Championship, but we are almost certainly financially f**ked and will be left with a squad that will be lucky to stay up.

The problem is we could enjoy it more if our owner wasn’t so pig headed and arrogant in believing he has assembled a top two squad. Assuming reality plays out, we know we’re only about 10 games away from another managerial change and with it yet more of the final pieces of the clubs soul being chipped away.

It's not over yet. We've still got the humiliation on 23 October to come. Then it'll be over and the protests can really start.

I heard Bachman say look at where we are come the break for the World Cup and take it from there. Still every chance of success but our defence is woeful. When we actually attack there is reason for optimism but with a shaky defence it just won’t happen. Keep the faith ladies and gents

No one believes the sound bites anymore, least of all seemingly the players themselves.
If they do, they've a strange way of showing it.

Even IF we went up - what then? Get battered every week with a squad who can barely hold their own against PL super teams who will score against us for fun? No thank you. Only good thing about being promoted is the money the club will get, and even then we would have to survive for a sustained period of time for it to viable for us to grow as a club. Do I even trust this ownership to be sensible with any windfall we receive? No chance, it would be spent on players we don't want in positions that don't need changing. We would still start 23/24 with a defence of Cathcart, Kabelese and WTE. I can almost see it, and that isn't even the worst part. I know, and we all know, we go up, come straight back down again. Rinse and repeat. Only time we have ever had a sustained period is because Iggy and Deeney were on fire and kept us up comfortable by a margin - despite the second half of that season being woeful. We had hardly any injuries to any key players and we were the underdogs who played way above our stations. Next three years was about sustaining our position and building - we just about did that despite almost being relegated in the Wally season. Had some cracking wins and the football for the most part was entertaining and had some nice Cup runs.

Nothing about this current squad looks to have even the slightest chance of repeating that feat. We have aging players and star players who turn it on now and then. We need a consistent side who give there all every match and dig in. Only way we will ever come close to our PL era again is a total rebuild from the ground up. Something that we have, according to our lords at the top), started by employing a young manager and giving him the resources he needed. Look how that turned out.

In principle I would agree with you, in practice however the club is so loaded with unserviceable levels of debt that this scenario will just lead to increasingly wild panic and knee jerk behaviour from our ownership.

What were witnessing right now is the beginning of the implosion of the Pozzo model - it’s gonna get a lot worse before it gets any better

Season is far from over yet, this is the Championship which has been littered with stories of teams going on extraordinary runs to either clinch promotion or in the play offs for decades. Trust in Bilic.

We've got the excitement of seeing if we can finish above Luton. Rebranding the club AFC Watford could be crucial.

A nice little trip up to Blackpool slim 1-0 victory pie and a pint afterwards and a quick look up the tower and back up the table again

Definitely enough in the squad to finish in the play offs. A decent January window and it’s a top two team quite easily.

Agree with everything else about not surviving in the league if we go up and the financial crisis if we don’t go up.

An implosion and stripping it back to complete basics in League One might be kinda fun? Who knows!

This is all very interesting, but when Vlad starts dropping a few nukes, people will have something genuine to wet the bed over rather than Watford losing a game

We all knew it back in October, all masked and hidden by one good 4-0 result.

Even 6 months ago we knew the Pozzo module was questionable and not working, as well as having a bang average championship team.
