Edwards to Rotherham would surely be an obvious move for all concerned - they already play 352 and like to lump it in to the mixer from wide areas.

 

I went for a walk yesterday evening wearing my Watford baseball cap. I passed a random stranger who called after me, laughing: "Do you need a new manager?"

Nobody can tell me Edwards would have got this out of us today. The bloke wasn't treading water he was drowning

 

Unless I missed it, I don't recall seeing any goodbye posts from any players towards Edwards.

Too short a stint to build a good relationship? Players jaded from constant sacking? Or our squad of players who have played most of their careers at the top level weren't impressed with a League 2 coach?

I do think Edwards was stitched up somewhat by not being given a RWB, and I would like to see a young manager given a proper chance at the club. But, I can see where some of the Edwards doubters were coming from. The difference today, purely from playing our best players in their correct position, was massive.

 

The difference wasn't anything more than the confidence off a coach with swagger and reputation.

Edwards very media savvy and slick, but he left with every player absolutely devoid of confidence. He took on a job well beyond his capability

 

As a counterpoint, if you're so reliant on a RWB that not having one means you crash and burn, perhaps you're not all that good.

 

Agree.

In a 4-3-3/4-2-3-2, our strongest starting line up is the strongest in the division. 3-5-2...not so much.

 

While we don't have any proper right wing-backs for a 3-5-2, take away Kamara, and we still have a genuine option at left wing-back in Sema, as it stands in a 4-2-3-1, we have zero backup at LB, and very little backup for Sarr.


Perhaps in hindsight maybe Edwards should have just bitten the bullet and played Gaspar RWB, because Kamara is electric at LB/LWB, although it's all academic now!

 

Hardly surprising 4-2-3-2 is a strong line up.... that's ELEVEN outfield players

They already play like Edwards had us playing, so would be an even better fit than Rotherham who at least had some vim and vigour about them!

I hope he does well at Boro or wherever he goes as he seemed a nice articulate bloke. But I'm glad he wasn't given any longer here.
