She said he was weird and rude and she didn't like him at all. He "creeped her out".

Her boyfriend at the time was working at the Ambassador Hotel, behind the bar (the former BF was older than my wife). Dahmer used to be a fairly common feature at the bar there.

Well he certainly came across that way.
Just can't believe he got away with so much for so long.
Was she at school with him or just knew him from round about?
    Sorry for the intrusion.

  3. Arakel

    Arakel First Team

No, she only knew him through various encounters at the Ambassador's bar, not school. Dahmer was a lot older than her.

In hindsight he may have been after her then-boyfriend, of course.

All the females in this house find him very attractive (admittedly this is partly because we all love the Daryl character) so I think that’s a “hook up” worth boasting about.

More oppressive than banging Jeffrey Dahmer?

That would be a different kind of “hook up”

To head off any doubt here, my wife did not bang Jeffrey Dahmer.

I suppose it's possible her ex-boyfriend did, but given that he's still alive signs point to "no".

My issue with the Dahmer documentary is that the families of the victims do not support these series and find them traumatising and yet the likes of Netflix keep profiting out of their personal tragedies. There have been so many dramas and documentaries already made about Dahmer, why ignore the wishes of the victims next of kin and make another one?

Of course these types of programmes are always going to be traumatic for the victims families, but this particular version really does focus an awful lot on the victims and their families, and just how awful it was for them.

Do you think it’s sensitive to the victims? A genuine question as I haven’t seen it but read that the families are upset by the programme.

Well episode 6 focuses purely on one of the victims and shows his whole life from when he was born. I can’t recall many similar programmes devoting so much time to the victims themselves.

I believe it's been respectable as it possibly can. As @a19tgg said a whole episode to one victim. But I do understand your point of view even though i disagree.
People always remember the name of the killer very rarely the victims.

Watched the first episode of This England, Sky Atlantic, yesterday, Sky’s take on the Johnson administration and the Covid crisis, starring Kenneth Branagh as Johnson.

It’s good stuff and while Branagh’s facial prosthetics don’t quite work, he has Johnson’s mannerisms perfectly, supported by a script that rings true about Johnson’s preoccupations and distractions.

Early on, however, it’s Simon Paisley Day’s performance as Dominic Cummings that takes the attention, intense and gnomic, forever in his beanie hat.

Mostly the drama is simply an unfolding account of the Covid crisis. All very familiar, but worth a retreading to remember the historical order. And lots of fun looking at the case and spotting ooh, that’s a very good Matt Hancock/Patrick Vallance/Chris Whitty etc.

I watched just a few minutes of this last night and found it really quite odd. It was a bit distracting as you say spotting which actor was playing who and I thought Branagh's portrayal of Johnson (prosthetics aside) was something of a caricature - if that's even possible! The main problem I have with this sort of thing is whether it is aiming to be a dramatised documentary of the sort we see for more ancient history or is it the writers' embellished take on recent events, more like I understand The Crown is? I fear the use of well-known actors means it might fall between those two stools.

This was the only one of these sorts of things that was any good and in an ideal world should be broadcast on a BBC channel on continuous loop when there's no scheduled programming.

Quite enjoyed The Boys on Amazon Prime.

Couldn't find a way of that not sounding dodgy:p

Adult super hero action with plenty of action, gore and some comedy thrown in.

The timeline of events is pretty faithful and it’s a useful reminder of how things developed, especially when some people now would like to claim there was an overreaction. It’s also a little bit dull in that respect.

So the characterisations liven it up a bit. Boris gets loads of good lines and Cummings commands centre stage whenever he appears. I’m going to stick with it, but it is a little flat as drama, trying to be both a statement of record and a mildly satirical take.

Just watched the end of Cobra Kai. What a perfect piece of television that series has been. Enjoyed every episode for all the right reasons. Just perfectly crafted arcs for every character surrounded by nonsense and slow, choreographed fight scenes between 25 year old teenagers. 10/10.

I've gone back to watching the Sopranos from Season 1.

Absolutely holds up and despite the 23 years of prestige TV that has followed since it broke the mould, IMO it still reigns supreme.

The sobering part is that I'm now 5 years older than Tony is in season one, and my mum is a year older than decrepit old Livia.

Watching Parks and Recreation on freevee. Like the Office but without the intensely annoying Ricky Gervais.

I think Gervais was meant to be “intensely annoying” in The Office. But I know what you mean.

Great show. Gets a lot stronger after S1 too, when they stop trying to make Leslie into the female Michael Scott and instead make her competent.

Not sure if serious... I found s3 a bit terrible. Nothing got resolved you just went round in circles. It was like someone with a certain haircut was bad. Then they weren't, then they were bad again before being offered 1 last salvation of hope. Which was rejected. But then they save someone.

In the end I gave up bothering, does it start ending storylines?

Don't usually frequent these parts but it's 2am and I'm bored on a night shift, so I would just like to drop in a recommendation to one and all to watch the FX series 'The Bear' streaming on Disney Plus - brilliant show, extremely well made - you'll love it.

Yes it does. It all comes together in the end. Maybe they did sandwich an extra season in the middle more than they should've, but the last season is excelsior.

Second series of Industry is on iplayer and so far it’s better than the first.

It would probably be crap to most people, but having worked in almost the exact job it’s scary how accurate some of the characters are, I swear I’ve worked with some of them. The writers worked for an investment bank hence the realism.

I did the same with The Wire recently and it's the same, IMO it's better than the soprano's but that's my taste more than anything.

Yeah, I always thought the Sopranos was better, but watching it again, I just think it's on a whole other level. It's like every comment and action of every character has meaning, not only in the action of the episodes and the stories, but in Tony's personal journey and internal conflict between being a monster himself, a product of his upbringing by a gangser father and a sociopathic mother and his underlying need to improve himself, even though his circumstances do not allow it.

Tony fails to be decent by a long, long way, but shows glimpses of what might have been as he struggles to impose a morality when he lives in a vacuum of morals

By the way, I'm sure I mentioned it early on this thread, but if you liked the Wire, try Oz. It's raw and brutal but it's almost a warm up for the type of shown that the Wire became.
