Lots of 'keep the faith' and 'careful what you wish for/Bassini' posts on the 1881's Facebook page today apparently. Also, the guy who does their banners has refused to get involved and urged fans to 'use their own voice'. Time for the fanbase to take this into our own hands because we're not getting anything from these self-interested cowards.
I completely agree that the situation we're in is a culmination of a line of poor decision making from the owner. But should anyone really feel pressured/obliged into putting their name towards a protest? Why should the person you mention who designs banners use his time, unpaid, to make a Pozzo out banner, for example?
Pozzo’s intentions are clear for all to see now, getting that jackpot of PL money. Nothing else matters to him, he's destroyed the academy and he doesn't care about creating a club philosophy or long-term plan. It's all about that short-term fix of PL money, while surrounding himself with yes men who won't stand up to his strategy of turning Watford into a soulless player trading vehicle. He's killed any enjoyment I used to get from following Watford and I'm ashamed to be a fan. It's now at the point where I hope we don't go up because I don't want him to have the satisfaction.
I pretty much agree, but if anything, yesterday's news put some excitement back in as we now have the prospect of protests to make it more interesting.
There won’t be ‘protests’ in the sense some believe. There’ll be a couple of banners, mild booing which will soon cease. Away games will see it a bit more vociferous - but home games will probably be tame. And will probably be met with a small section of Gino-apologists. But it will be mostly apathy. It always is. (This isn’t a criticism of anyone on either side)
The worry this is by necessity rather than choice. I fear our future wellbeing depends on promotion this year hence this behaviour.
There will be a few “Gino out” banners, apparently some fans are going to the training ground as well. It all depends on how we get on at Stoke. If we play well and win then follow that up with another good performance and victory against Swansea, the unrest will disperse quickly. There’s nothing more emotive than seeing your team play crap and lose. That will ignite the hostility greatly.
Happened all last season and ended under the worst human this club has employed as manager. No one said much then either.
Can’t wait to see one of our hardcore supporters wobbling away being chased by Big Bazzler in his coach whilst Ben Foster catches it all on his GoPro.
But no, Duxbullshit told us we're fine financially & all the debt is 'just like a mortgage'....except it's actually a swingeing RE-mortgage of something we already owned.
Last season we were in the Premier League, which is really punching above our weight if we're honest. No matter how bad last season was, there was an understanding and realisation at how tough it is to compete at that level. This is what stopped the majority from taking any action. This time it feels different. There's the cumulative drip, drip impact of mistakes from the past 3 years and there's now the broken promises of the new beginning which really seems to be the tipping point. I think it's the last straw for many and it's certainly had a big impact if you gauge the reaction on social media. But I do take SM with a pinch of salt. It's often misleading in terms of representing the views of the majority. As I say, a few good results and performances and the bad feeling will all go away for the majority. However, this is where the powder keg resides. If we play badly and lose, things will quickly ignite, and the anti-Gino feeling will surface quite visibly I suspect.
Strangest thing about this seeming reality is when you consider it in light of the doo-dah band's utter refusal to just basically ensure it by adequately recruiting in the summer - even with free transfers. It's like two entirely competing animus - desperate financial need, combined with a deranged dictator-style insistence on defining the parameters of reality, a la 'this twice-relegated defence is good/you don't need a right wing back to play with right wing backs/midfielders who aren't capable of providing a creative threat will be capable of providing a creative threat because I say so'.
I have only just joined this forum malarkey recently having supported Watford for 46 years and quite honestly its a total shambles. Thankfully I bring the kids up for a game and they love it but my six year old said to me yesterday why have we got another manager daddy ? I didn’t know what to say really. 10 games and then ousted isn’t fair by any stretch of the imagination. Hope they sort it out or I ain’t wasting hard earned cash coming to more games. Get a grip
Criticism of the Pozzos in the Guardian. https://amp.theguardian.com/footbal...ubs-managerial-changes-rob-edwards-gino-pozzo
In that case c'mon Stoke , our club has a cancer that at present has moved to stage 3 ,it needs cutting out now!
Good article. And I think its right in regards to Duxberry as well, he recognised what happened last season couldnt keep continuing.
Once Bilic starts winning us matches and takes us back to the promised land, this will all be forgotten.
I read this earlier at work today. Quite like a guardian opinion at times. Agree with a comment on here earlier that a victory against Stoke and Swansea would silence any Pozzo doubters but if not could be problematic to say the least
Winning the league won't silence me, never mind 2 wins against midtable championship teams! - I want this vile poisonous man out of our club irrespective of on field performance, together with his henchmen Bayat, Duxbury and the utterly useless Giarretta. Can't stand how these leeches have attached themselves to our once great club and sucked the life out of it.
Well if we don’t win 3/4 games soon Bilic might come under pressure straight away . Got the impression Edward was never going to last in Pozzos eyes unless we were where Sheffield United are . Totally different mind set to Duxbury .
Hopefully any decent players or head coaches won't give us the time of day now. They'd be crazy to come here and join the Pozzo circus. Let's face it, Bilic isn't that great. He's already checked out and gone to China for the money. Soon we'll be scraping the barrel for head coaches and relying solely on Bayat incomings. We're practically there already.
If it's true that Xisco was in the running then Gino has completely lost the plot. The guy does not have a clue how to run a football club anymore, he's well out of his depth. The only hope is that his Dad gets fed up of his son f*cking things up and either gets involved himself or sends us someone who knows what they're doing. Or ideally they just sell the club and f*ck off, never to be seen in Hertfordshire again and we can put this nightmare behind us.
I liked Edwards perhaps not the combinations but 10 games In charge I mean that just takes the piss really , how on earth can you sack him after that length of time the poor bloke. Hope we can get the season back on track I need some cheering up. At least Joao is happy at Watford. Good lad that one good lad
It's worth noting Giampaolo is nothing more than a figurehead at Udinese now. He owns them and occasionally makes a public comment - but we shouldn't wish him to come here as he doesn't really 'run' Udinese. Gino actually has some input over there too. But they have marino in situ there and allow him free reign almost to run things. We don't get the same treatment.
I presume he had a role in picking Marino over there? Not pretending that all of our problems can be solved overnight, but Jesus H Christ, the owners and their chums stepping back and letting proper football people run the show would be a start
