I 'liked' your comment as it's a pertinent point, albeit it's a bit harsh to categorise it as they "got away with it" - the appointment just worked, unlike with Edwards.

If there's a manager they should have given more time to and had more patience with it was Xisco.

Probably had the easiest job any Watford manager has had in the Pozzo era! We should have either backed him 'to hell or high water', or sacked him immediately on promotion, not the sorry halfway house of giving him just a few games that season...

If the story about senior players being with Edwards in the move to oust Giaretta is true, I can’t imagine the squad being too impressed.

Bilic probably has enough weight behind his name to overcome any misgivings the players have, but it’s a potentially interesting dynamic.

Of course it’s a sham! Look at the number of appointments! Look at the comments in the summer in contrast to todays decision!

How on earth can look upon them positively is crazy.

I’m really torn on this one . Edward ‘s sacking doesn’t sit well with me as we were given the impression this was a new dawn with a new up and coming manager , who was going to get some time to make things work. I actually believed it as well and didn’t think we would sack him 10 games in ! I really wanted to believe they had seen something in this guy and he was going to take us places . This was a longer term view . However I now am led to believe it was just a pr exercise and clearly this appointment was no different and was not the right one .

On the other hand I am sure Bilic will do a better job at getting the best out of the talented squad which we have… at least in the short term ! Edwards clearly hasn’t been doing that and hence our chances of promotion are better. But I’m still thinking , even if we do go up . What next ? Will the owners be able to appoint someone with a long term view ? Only if they bring success almost immediately ?

Not sure what to think . Though of course if Bilic gets us playing then I’ll get right behind him and enjoy the season. But can’t help being a bit more concerned for where this is all going now.

If the senior players were Kabasele, Cathcart, Gosling and Cleverley and Gino punishes them
by releasing them, I’ll forgive him todays decision.

Thank you for the 'like' and the subsequent clarification that it didn't really deserve a 'like'!

Would not be a season without at least 2 managers

hard one , we said we had changed our ways , but I personally don’t think Edward was getting the best from the squad , to stick with him would potentially have been a braver decision than sacking him.

Feel sorry for Rob though, should have stayed at Forrest Green learnt a bit more , as it is he put his faith in Gino and may struggle to get another chance at this level for a while.

Radio 5 had a brief discussion earlier. They all laughed said we're a joke club.

Mark Chapman did say that this sacking seemed different and that Watford fans across social media were furious.

    Many are rightvon this site.
It is a total sh*t show by Watford.
The writing was on the wall when the squad was added with players Edwards didn't want. Dire performances kept coming and then Gino has to go to Papa and borrow £15m to shore up the club which is under the cloud of administration within two seasons.
As one report has claimed, Papa has smacked the arse of his son, reappointed that useless turd DoF and then fired Edwards.
A more hands on approach from Italy is likely from now on. All hush, hush of course.
Who knows what role Duxbury will actually have in the new regime .
Gino is the Prince who wanted to be King, but the King is not dead yet and he is still setting the rules.

The bit I agreed with was the point you raised about Xisco demonstrating it's possible for a relatively inexperienced manager to have a fairly quick positive impact, thus meaning it's not a complete excuse for Edwards' poor performance.

The bit I disagreed with was your characterisation of how Xisco was appointed.

But I felt the first part was pertinent enough of a point that it should get a 'like' despite the more questionable sentiment in the second part.

Well I think the way it’s happened has annoyed many but not sure if everyone is furious Edwards has gone ..

It doesn't work like that. Someone would need to make what they see as an offer that is too good to turn down.

Xisco had one season in Georgia, his appointment working out was nothing other than dumb luck, proven by the 100 other managers we’ve had who haven’t worked out.

I maintain that pretty much anyone with a vaguely smiley demeanor could have taken that squad to promotion, bet you a pre-FGR Edwards could have!

Another thing, if it was football related, why wait all week to sack him?

The new coach could have had an extra few days working with the players who aren’t away.

It’ll be great when Bilic is still waiting for his work permit, so Cathcart, Gozzers and Cleverley take the reigns for our next game.

Yep, tis true. You're suggestion that "if they really cared about the club they'd just had over the reigns to someone else", I'm afraid isn't a goer.

This is my issue with the sacking. Whether Edwards should have been given more time is debatable, but if they decided to sack him they should have done it at the start of the break.

The fact Bilic was announced right afterwards implies to me that they were getting the successor locked in before pulling the trigger.

At first it was heralded as a great example of how they were always one step ahead. Now I just think it f*cking stinks and smacks of short termism.
Ironically the only time they didn't appear to rush it was with Pearson, and that seemed to work initially (still of the view that without lockdown we'd have stayed up!)

Impossible to support Gino. Players aren't really good enough as a squad, no real balance. I didn't think it was ever going to end well as we were never going to give Edward's a chance despite all the claims saying we were building for long term etc. Joke of a situation / club and really not funny any more.

Basically the club cannot decide what sort of manager they want it seems .

We go from one sort to another every time .

They probably should have gone for a Bilic type of manager if the board wanted an instant impact rather than a young manager with a years worth of management experience.

The club's soul is eroding away in front of our eyes. The chopping and changing of managers was fine while the performances on the pitch were decent but as the team has been allowed to get progressively worse over the past three years the flaws in the decision-making become ever more apparent. Not 10 weeks ago the club was committed to giving a young manager a chance to develop something. Now, it might well have been turgid, theoretical training ground football – all passing and no passion or penetration – but surely (surely!) the owner and chief executive knew what they were doing when they sold the supporters the latest do-over?

As Keith Burkinshaw is reputed to have said about Spurs when they were listed on the stock exchange: "There used to be a football club over there."

Bilic. Last time I saw him he was staring manically from the Hawthorns touchline looking like he didn't have a clue what was going on.

The speed with which they announced Bilic suggests that once again they had a new man lined up to announce as soon as they sacked Edwards. What was once an indication that they were decisive, did their due diligence and prepared a replacement before creating the vacancy now just looks like a gambling addict at the craps table rolling the dice time after time after time hoping that he comes up with double six eventually. (Or whatever it is you need in craps).

This is typical of the muddled thinking at the top. They are not all the same page. Gino clearly wants an immediate return to the Prem. SD was happy with appeasing fans with an English young progressive manager. This is the dream he sold the fan base but Gino was only on board if RE hit the ground running.

I suspect SD is hiding now and wants to distance himself from the decision, hence why Gino made a rare quote. There’s the stuff with Giaretta too. Removed last week, reinstated this. All crazy turmoil stuff but hardly makes a ripple in the toxicity of a day at Watford football club.

Sacking Edwards and hiring Bilic is the right call if you want to maximise your chances of promotion.

But the fallout will be huge this time. The fans have had enough. This is the tipping point. Protest groups are forming and these things tend to gain traction.

Personally I’m not too bothered by it all. I just shrug my shoulders and I’m a bit immune to it all now. If Bilic wins 3-0 at Stoke we’ll be delighted. It will be Rob who?

But the bottom line are the lies the fans are fed. Enough is enough for most. A new era was promised and I think SD may pay the price for pinning his flag firmly with Edwards. Gino won’t give a t0ss about the support, but I think SD does. I do actually think Duxbury says what he would like to happen. This is the picture he wants to paint and he believes it when he says it, but he has no authority. Gino does what’s Gino wants to do. Everything else is spin and noise. Smoke and mirrors.
