I agree with a lot of this , no doubt . Can Rob Edwards adjust as a coach from being a proponent of the dark arts to being a serious coach as you say it ? Time will tell.

Edwards is clearly crap but I refuse to call for his head, a new manager would only prolong this Poxburyat circus

With Davis Sarr Pedro Bayo in the side there's enough of a threat going forward to nick a goal or 2, Edwards just needs to sort the formation to fit the personnel to make us more difficult to score against. And instill belief to the players that they are talented and winners. That's it in a nutshell.

Just seen Brighton have appointed a new manager and this particular quote from Brightons chairman Tony Bloom caught my eye

"Roberto's teams play an exciting and courageous brand of football, and I am confident his style and tactical approach will suit our existing squad superbly."

It’s so infuriating that the Board at Watford don’t seem to look at the obvious when it comes to manager appointments or player recruitment. We have an existing squad as does every football team or sporting team on the planet. They are set up in a way that the previous manager wanted to play whether that’s formation, playing style, etc. The playing style can be trained and moulded into the new managers philosophy, but if you have a team that plays wingers, doesn’t utilise wingbacks, why bring in a manager who favours this system when the squad is not built for it? The squad needs a rebuild and this is not going to happen overnight, but currently the manager does not fit the squad, that’s a fact. Hence we are being served Kamara, Kabasele & Cathcart at RB or RWB. Pedro in midfield? Sema as LWB? We need a manager who can get the best out of the squad and our squad suits 4-3-3. Unless Edwards plays this formation or variations of, we are all heading in the wrong direction

Who actually thinks Edwards will last the season? The Pozzos might want to get someone in over the international break and just might be waiting until tomorrow to sack him as it could be viewed as disrespectful to do so during the period of mourning for the Her Majesty the Queen

What I would say, is that if Gino were to sack Edwards early doors - I genuinely expect Duxbury would leave too.

Very much known within the club that he’s nailed his Watford future onto Edwards appointment.

Removing Giaretta is a good first step - but it absolutely should not follow that Bayat is handed more keys to the club. He needs to be the next removal. But the fact that the stories are building that he’s indeed still firmly in situ, it leaves me really really worried as to why. I do fear that even if we wanted to remove him, he may be so messily tied into things that it means the whole lot comes down like a house of cards.

To be fair, would we even notice the difference? The club is a shambolic mess as it is, removing Bayat would only be putting a log on the fire.

You’re suggesting that removing the Bayat connection would somehow make the club more of a mess? I’m not sure how you’ve come to that conclusion.

I said actually the exact opposite. We wouldn't notice because the club is already in turmoil. But it's a jokey comment, doesn't need further analyzing.

We need a new start. Clubs have reached a nadir, fans have protested, the old hierarchy leaves and the club get's back to it's feet. One issue here though might mean we are not a Swansea or Brighton.

For me, I would have preferred we sold one of Pedro/Sarr or both and used that 30/60m to actually create a fleshed out squad with reliable depth. The decision to keep them may be decisive to our season if they don't pick up as to be honest, neither of them look like they are making a special impact at all. Look at Willock and Chair for QPR, who are carrying what is a mid-table team. These two aren't making that difference. Whether that is because of them or tactics is unknown.

Possibly as a result of keeping them, we are in a situation where we have to start players like Asprilla who should really be in the youth team, Cathcart RB, Kayembe indisputable starter, had to 'sell' Kamara to Udinese etc because we have neglected the rest of the squad to keep these two money-spinning stars who haven't shown their worth.

5/6 good players are better than one or two 'great' ones, and I say 'great' because they have never proven at any time they are that.

Yes just the formation to sort out.

Then coach the brainfarts out of 31 year old Kabasle.

Then stop 33 year old Cathcart ball watching on crosses.

Then teach WTE and Sierralta to pass.

I'm sure if he tells them that they're fantastic players then all of these problems will disappear overnight. It's not like these issues have been there for at least 3 years.

For me, there's more than enough evidence that the ownership do not understand what needs doing. Had we sold either Sarr or Pedro I'm not convinced we'd have reinvested wisely. Far too much faith has been placed on failing players. When we spend money it's spent on players we don't really need. £5m on bench player Bayo, £5m wasted on Okoye, £3m wasted on Kalu. These are poor players and we've wasted precious money on them. Glaring deficiencies in defense, no right wingback, dreadful midfield options. They have proved they are pretty clueless in squad build. So having an extra £30m in the bank, I have no trust the hierarchy would have known what to have done with it.

Sadly this overlooks the obvious - Gino and Bayat have shown they can’t be trusted with £50m-£60m to rebuild anything anymore. So we’d blow it on dross and in a season or two add it to the multi-millions of PL money already spunked up the wall.

Selling Joao Pedro and Sarr would have achieved nothing under the current direction. It would weaken us and then some.

I think it would take time, but a move towards making more signings like David, ChadHairy and Hause and fewer like Kalu, Okoye and Bayo would be a huge positive.

We wouldn't see the benefits straight away but even I'd get behind a club moving in that direction if there was positive progress.

The scariest thing is, we're well off being a promotion contender, IMO. If that is the case, and we go down the route of writing off this season, what have we got for next season? Hause, Davis, Choudhury, Kamara, Pedro and Sarr won't be here. What have we got left? Even if we do bring a few in, we're going to be well short if you consider we're not good enough now, even with all those players I listed.

Right now, we're in relegation form, if you consider that last 7 games has produced just 7 points. If that continues we'll be in the bottom half very quickly. Already we're 10 points from the top but only 4 points from the bottom 3.

We need promotion THIS season, or else the last little bits of quality will be gone and we'll have travelled full circle under the Pozzo's. We were a club on the brink of capitulation when they took us on. They did brilliant things, but are now very close to taking us to the brink once more. This time next year, if we don't go up, we could have massive debt with no talent in the squad.

Well, if we moved to a model of prioritising the needs of the team, whatever level we are at, rather than signing random nonsense and expecting them to turn us into promotion contenders, I'll be OK with that, as long as we don't go into administration, of course, which would be hilarious.

I think that we probably need to take into account the fact he’s been handed a squad that’s been mostly build with no wider strategy in mind. Sure, he’s been given a few new pieces this window, but most of them have been throw together over a number of years, with no proper strategy in mind, no developed style of playing, and have been basically fighting fires constantly under a number of vastly different coaches.

I think it’s reasonable for things to take some time to click, and for Edwards to coach out the mish-mash of bad habits instilled in most of the squad over the previous 3-4 years. That being said, I also think it’s fair for us to expect to see more semblance of his plan for the squad at this point, and to be seeing more evidence of what he’s trying to do. If he’s going to build something that lasts, we should know by now what it looks like.

I think most of us would be willing to give him time if it looked like there was a vision for how we’d eventually play once things have been given time to bed in, but with the constant formation shifts and combinations at the back, and up top, it’s really hard to see what RE is trying to do.

People say 'this squad is built for 4-3-3!', great, what happens if Sarr or Kamara get injured? That's not even mentioning the fact that the rest of the squad (well, the vast majority of them anyway), even if technically they are all playing in the 'correct' positions, are a bunch of cloggers
