Rob Edwards Sacked

I’m not so sure it was even a promising start, I think the club realised they needed a new stooge in the press, so chucked French a couple of juicy bones at the start. He said all along there was a club representative in all the player exposé interviews, so it wasn’t him going rouge it was all club sanctioned stuff. That was clearly fed to him to give himself some credibility amongst the more gullible fans and get him onside for what they really want him to be reporting later on. Now he’s stuck being the clubs parrot waiting and hoping for more juicy bones that will never come.

 

That’s if the world hasn’t ended by then

Just as a matter of interest, what, if anything, would persuade you to change your mind?

RE has said repeatedly that he is content, and AL and AF have confirmed that we made no serious move for a RWB. The only evidence to counter them is a seemingly unsupported social media gossip and a bunch of fans apparently adding 2+2 to get 47. So why side with the latter over the former?

Genuine question - it’s just not the way I think, and I’d like to understand how people reach different conclusions based on apparently the same body of evidence.

It was fine when he was just reporting what was being said, but when you make value judgements based off a historically untrustworthy man, you can see why people are a bit cheesed off

 

When Edwards states he is content with the situation, is he blatantly lying?
If so, how do you know with such certainty what he is actually thinking?
I struggle sometimes with people I know well to figure out what is going on on their head, so the ability to clearly read the thoughts of complete strangers is a gift I’d love to learn.

 

Could you clarify a bit please? I can’t figure out how that’s an answer to either of my questions. Thanks.

Once again Jon, and as has been highlighted enough before, it's the radiating smugness inherent in these two clearly disparate sentiments that stops people from/from wanting to believe you're engaging in good faith.

 

You really don't have to be a mind reader to know that a manager who is only tonight able to play a player who is anywhere approaching a natural fit at RWB (a player who Edwards barely played throughout pre-season when he was available to him and was happy to see leave incidentally) is not being truthful when he says that he is happy with his options in that area of the squad.

 

Get him gone. Looking forward to his slick PR friendly analysis of that *****

Still no discernable style of play, unless this ponderous sideways passing, low intensity stuff is it, and he intends to bore opposition teams into submission.

Yet to come away from any game this season (even those we've won) and truly feel like we were by far the better team.

 

Seven wins in his last 24 league games across this season and last. Feels a little like he got lucky at the start of last season and is out of his depth now.

 

Sadly beginning to look like he’s not the answer. Completely impotent up front despite have Sarr, Pedro and Davis available. How is that even possible ?

 

Strikes me that there is no more gameplan with the current coaching team than we saw under Xisco, but also doesn't produce any goals.

 

Wasn't convinced when we brought him in and remain unconvinced.

Trouble is, the environment and the squad are a mess so would a change make any difference?

 

Nice guy, but ultimately tactically clueless.

Hasn't been dealt the best of hands but we have a 60m+ front three in the championship, he should be getting a lot lot more out of them.

We have no game play, subs are always too late, he has to go.

A lot of people were seduced by Duxbury's words, the idea of a young British head coach, the media bombardment that followed his official appointment and a few prominent social media accounts deciding he was the Messiah.

The football has been utterly turgid, he's been unable to influence games when in progress, he's been wedded to a system that doesn't seem to suit the squad he's been given. If he was some Italian journeyman, loads of people would be calling for his head.

 

Poor man’s Gareth Southgate.

- Good with the fans
- Liked by the players
- Tactically inept
- Has at his disposal a group of the most talented players for their level but they all underperform
- Lack of coherent game plan
- Out of of depth but too nice to sack

 

I'm not as vociferously Edwards out at this point as some people, and I do find it fascinating in the sense that I've never seen a large swathe of opinion turn this quickly to that end (perfectly understandably, in my view) and, as many will already be aware, I'm usually pretty much in the vanguard of manager-eaters around here.

Taking that into account, I do think both that whether Edwards should be sacked, and whether he is likely/going to be sacked, are two quite different things, and that seeing Edwards' performances to date coupled with the disparity between Duxbury's public proclamations and how they actually treated him (a la backing him/not backing him) it makes me wonder if the reason Eustace was seemingly summarily dismissed as a managerial candidate had anything to do with the reputation, the instant caché and authority he would have had at the club, had he taken over.

Would Eustace have felt the need to give several gushing interviews defending things that were clearly indefensible in the name of the stability? Would Eustace have accepted it in the first place?

I'm not by any means saying he would have been the messiah, but I find it interesting to compare the backgrounds of the two and the positions they would/do find themselves in, in a 'Sliding Doors' kind of way through the prism of which the hierarchy would consider as more convenient and manageable for their own ends.

 

Jesus christ you lot are an entitled bunch! So accustomed to the turnover of managers over the past 8 years that you're all calling for the managers head after 9 games. Ludicrous. If he was to go, you'd all then be having a go at Pozzbury for going back on their word, and we'd be back where we started.

Yes, we are yet to see any real identity for the team, and tonight was utter dogshit, but how about we all chill for a bit and see where this season goes?

 

Who was the Latino looking bloke with an iPad who was pointing at it and telling Edwards and "Richy" just something before half time? Looked very much like he was telling them how they could change formation whilst they were nodding along like rabbits in the headlights.
