How do you find this sunday service podcast. cant find it on the apple app and googling seems unhelpful
Feel a bit for them to be honest. Last two years we have been in the stadium has been thin gruel on the pitch to be fair! Last year must have been impossible to get an atmosphere going second half of season.
Cracking contribution from some bloke on the DNSYE post game podcast last night. He didn't go the game and spent the first few minutes droning on about how he was elsewhere at a non league game where the floodlights failed then said well none of us could just go and do our jobs abroad so how could we expect Bayo/Manaj to settle quickly? A stunning contribution.
I was sat next to the Choudhury family at Birmingham, and it took four minutes for them to hear someone in the row behind calling HC a "farking useless c4nt". I don't think it is exclusive to our fanbase, most young lads getting into the game now seem to love screaming swear words for the sake of it as loud as they can and then faking a fall down a few rows when a goal is scored.
Haha the fake fall down rows is a strange phenomenon. Followed a few hours later by it being referred to as “carnage” on Twitter
I had some whopper next to me at Birmingham recording quite a bit and very specifically the last few minutes of the game. Then he wanted to capture the post-game crowd reaction in all its glory too. No idea what content you get from filming some people clapping while shuffling towards the exits after a 1-1 draw but whatever.
Many years ago I went to see the Arctic Monkeys at Alexandra Palace. Was waiting for a mate to come out of the toilet and some weirdo was filming people coming down the stairs that let to the bogs. I'd had a few and asked him why he was filming it and he said that it was to put on YouTube. I asked who wanted to watch people coming back from the toilet at a gig and he couldn't answer, but still seemed adamant that it was well worth it.
I really hate this fake fall down rows stuff There are people who do it on The Rookery and I’ve seen youngish kids and older men and women nearly clattered by these immature ****s
Filming your reactions during the game and putting it on social media is amongst the worst things about modern football. Invariably it's done by the most gigantic virgins as well. It's like a calling for them
Not that you should scream abuse at anyone when their family are nearby, but imagine doing that to possibly our best player at the moment!
Good grief. Has anyone read “Alan Lathwell” output on Twitter? Apparently GT would not want any criticism of the ownership. Presumably GT would be perfectly fine with our owner being closely entwined with a man facing charges of financial crime. The mind boggles at how some of these Twitter minds work!
I’d exercise extreme caution when claiming to know what anyone who has passed away would say about anything but I do think it’s pretty obvious that GT would urge support for the manager and team and would also want to keep a very keen eye on who is owed what by the club. When Graham was alive his first question about anyone who was putting money into a football club was whether the money was invested or loaned. And if it was loaned who was it ultimately owed to, what was it secured against and what were the terms of repayment or recall. There’s absolutely no such thing as unconditional support for an owner. Support for any owner is given and withdrawn according to their actions.
Well GT himself was certainly critical of Bassini when he was was here... And no doubt wasn't exactly impressed with the way the Pozzos changed managers and players in thew early years. Also certainly would not approve of agents being used to buy players as the great man was certainly very disapproving of them - which is why he left Villa and retired from football.
He certainly was extremely critical of Bassini, both publicly and privately. In my many conversations with GT, he wasn't particularly bothered about the Pozzo churn of managers or players if it worked out on the pitch. It wouldn't have been the way he'd want to work but he accepted the game had changed and that managers and players would be going into a situation with their eyes open. But yes, agents were never his favourite at all and although they weren't solely the reason he left Villa and retired it was undoubtedly a facet of the game he did not enjoy one bit. Things had changed a lot since the days when he banned Maurice Johnston's agent from the offices at Vicarage Road!
Not a podcast but is anyone listening to Sunday Service on Twitter with Uncle Ron? Adam Leventhal has droned on for the best part of an hour to basically tell everyone that he doesn't know anything. It's clear he's got absolutely no contacts at the club anymore, but as he's an Athletic employee I can understand him not giving away any information he may have on a fan Twitter space. The bloke is absolutely terrified of saying anything that could come back to him at a later date though.
I got the impression reading between the lines of what he said that there has been a breakdown of his relationship with the club, presumably after his article at the back end of last season which was critical of Pozzo / Duxbury.
Found Leventhal’s comments strange last night, some not very well disguised barbs thrown at Andrew French as well Credit to him for going on and engaging for a long stint however
Liked especially for "droned on". To all those questioning what GT would have made of ownership it's not certain is it? However on the couple of occasions I was privileged to meet him he was very candid about mistakes owners had made, especially concerning GV. One thing IS certain however. He despised the growing influence of agents and that was in the '90s!
There has been. Leventhal has been pretty much ostracised by the club over the summer. Duxbury is particular doesn’t enjoy AL’s coverage of the club. You can sense the underlying tone in AL’s pieces this season. He’s been sidelined by the club and obviously feels Andrew French has been given the access he always wanted.
His rant and article post Palace game were not exactly an endorsement for the Pozzo regime! As I recall he prefaced it with "here's a blueprint of how not to run a football club" or something similar. Whilst he was confirming most of our darkest fears it wasn't going to gain him friends in the hierarchy. More relevant now is that he seems less well informed than a few on here. As a journalist he should still have contacts. Worrying times for AL.
