Looking at Bournemouth today, I have to say I stand by my statement! Disappointing loss but another winnable game just 3 days away!

This is not a gripe at you either but you know football’s broken when the reward for possibly being good this season is to go up and get pummelled by Liverpool & City. We have another game on Tuesday like you say and for that reason alone I much prefer this division. Woo!

Sadly I think it's pretty much par for the course just to keep your head above water in the Premier League. With the wages required and the extra costs, it looks a tough ask to be profitable, and competitive.

We've ended up in a lot of debt, with roughly £60-70m of saleable assets. Not a great position, but could be worse.

Which isn't to say we've been savvy at every turn. I'd hate to think how much money we've wasted on agents, long contracts for aging players, and dud signings.

Another summer of terrible transfer dealings and more business with the dodgy agent resulting in the HC having to abandon his system by the end of August.

    Wake up people.

I started this thread in 2019. This has been coming for a while.

    The ownership are a shambles.

Riddled with MORE debt than at any time in the club’s history.

A squad full of poor ageing players with no obvious strategy or style of play.

A head coach hung out to dry by the aforementioned squad imbalance.

Watford FC is arguably in no better (possibly a WORSE) position than when Pozzo bought it.

    Absolutely rudderless ownership.

How anyone can argue otherwise is beyond me.

Bassini (red helmet), Bassett era, ITV Digital collapse, players taking massive paycuts to avoid the club going into administration and Vialli spending all our money on Premiership rejects with huge contracts and an overbloated squad,

Those are, to my memory, worse than where we are now. Look at what happened to Bury (RIP) and even Bolton nearly went the same way. Money dominates the world, and football is not a sport anymore, it's a business. Am I proud of where we are now? Of course not, and Gino and Dux have ran out of goodwill with me and probably 75% of the fanbase right now. State of our current squad and the debt is very worrying and almost all of the blame for that has to be aimed at the people running the club. When they first came in remember, we had that "loop hole" where we were trading players with Udinese' and getting a damn good squad out of it. They saved us when we were on our knees but I do agree that, right now, we are heading backwards. Since our relegation in 19/20 we have done nothing but go backwards. Our team is full of aging pros, loans, and even our two best players could be gone in seven days. I hate our agent and I hate the fact he sits alongside our DOF and Chairman in the higher ups.

I want to love this club again like I did in the GT years, Lewington years and Boothroyd years. Sure, we had little to no money then either but our squad was very different, we got beat a lot but there was a sense of togetherness. If Gino cannot take us forward from where we are now (and that statement he put out last season was eight paragraphs of waffle) then yes, he needs to go, and the clock is ticking.

This bit below, with the debt the club is currently in those days May look like a cake walk compared to where we are headed. Pozzo has run out of road and needs to go.

Oh I am no illusions that the size of our debt now is bigger than what it was back then. One of most worrying things is the 50M or whatever it is loan he has against the Stadium. If he cuts and runs or we continue to spiral out of control to a back hole, we will lose the Stadium. I hope you have four coats we can put down in Cassio' Park for goal posts on a match day.

Yep. To be fair I enjoyed the game today even though we lost. My first live game since Hodgson was in charge. We didn’t deserve to lose and if we keep JP and Sarr then most games are going to be enjoyable.

    This.

It was a really good game today that could have gone either way. We tried to make things happen, when it didn't work we unfortunately got punished on the counter, but really we should have scored 4 or 5.

Could have conceded 4 or 5 as well. This is a huge problem. It’s not as if QPR are any good. Even their own fans don’t rate their team much.

We’ve been poor all season. Only Bachman’s heroics in previous games have given us more points than we deserve, which gas fooled some. It’s becoming an issue now.

Back Rob or sack Rob. Those are the only two outcomes I feel.

Sure. There's work to do. I think we need more incomings than we will get to push for top 6. I just found the first few games so boring, it was nice to get some end-to-end football.

Maybe I'm also at a point now where I can't be arsed to get 9-0ed by Liverpool though and I'm happy to get value for money. Last season put me off the game.

It blows my mind when we employ a new manger and the squad just does not fit the requirement and preferred formation. If you have a team that is built on using wingers, then employ a manager that is focused on this type of play with the squad more suited to their needs. Edwards plays with full backs and we only have 1 player that fits that description in the entire team. Today we played with 4 at the back and were close to useless. The same can be said for all positions on the field. There was even an article from Edwards about square pegs and it was just absolute lies. Edwards needs to be given time to build a team that is his own. The hierarchy need to back the manager and give him what he needs to get us playing how he wants and results will come. I don’t see one player that we have signed that Edwards has asked for and it’s just a huge case of smoke and mirrors to make us believe this is the case. Edwards first mission would be to make sure we have a player for each position in his desired formation and we are lacking terribly in the full back position. I’m sure Edwards didn’t say… you know what, Gaspar is the perfect candidate, get him in. Oh and make sure we buy both Bayo and Manaj as my main strike force. Btw, Gaspar is really bad, a terrible right back and a worse wingback

We can’t keep sacking managers. It’s really not fair on RE, he’s been given a squad with no shape or plan to it. It’s a mess. It’s not the manager, or the players for that matter….i saw a lot of effort and commitment today. The finger must be pointed at the owners and the CEO.

For me, it's absolutely unforgivable that the hierarchy have not given Rob at least one RWB. That's quite incredible really, considering how fundamental that position is for him. He wants to play with three at the back, but has been forced to change it today to a four. At least give him a player who could play RWB so he has options to play whichever formation he likes.

But we all know how they are. They will say, you have top players including Pedro and Sarr. You must be able to create some type of team from that. So far the performances have been poor for the most part. I think we've only really deserved to beat Birmingham. We have more points than the performances deserve and this will worry the board. We're not going up or will even challenge if we don't lift our performance level by quite a margin. West Brom battered us. Preston, QPR and Burnley have opened up our defence far too easily. It's rare to gain promotion by riding your luck for an entire season.

So, he's got two games. Lose those and the pressure will be on him for sure. He's already on a bad run. Only 1 win from the last 5 games. At Watford you're only a bad 5 game run away from the sack. Apart from improved communication, I see no evidence that anything has changed at Watford.

Certainly more enjoyable than most games, even though our play was one dimensional and slow until Asprilla came on and made a few driving runs. He is the only midfielder who will attack space in the middle of the park. It was odd that we equalised, looked like we were going to tear them apart and then went back to sleep.

Are people genuine when saying Edwards is not the right choice. We’ve played six games and have lost one. Transfer window is still open. We want to stop sacking managers so let’s give him a chance.

No real cohesion in playing style, dubious recruitment for RE,lack of funds, previous history.

I'm clinging onto SEJ's words at his concert but to counter that is Duxbury and therefore Pozzo being fundamentally untrustworthy.

Surely we can’t judge him after six games in which we had Dennis then lost him, had Sarr, lost him, got him back again and the same for Pedro. Lots of other changes within the squad as well. We’ve got stuck with somebody at some point and I would rather an up and coming English coach rather some sod I’ve never heard of

The game against Sheffield United is still the best we've had all season, and it's no coincidence that it was when we had all of our front 3 fit and firing (we did also have them all against West Brom, but Dennis had a mare--probably had already left the club mentally?), but all it did was paper over the cracks. I don't care where the manager is from, but we have to stick with one eventually, rather someone like Edwards who has shown some level of aptitude as a manager than one of the many managers we've appointed who was clearly unsuitable/didn't want to be here. Rather him than the disciplinarian who nobody liked, or the happy clapper who was out of his depth, or the two septuagenarians (had to look up that word lol) here for a final paycheck

The one manager I really thought we could really build something with was Silva, and while I still think he was a ****head for chucking in the towel so soon, you have to have some level of sympathy for what he had to work with

Pozzo doesn't have a patient mentality does he, quite the opposite and not even Mad Jack McMad believes a word Duxbury says!
We can all Frindall on and on about not having the players for his preferred system but if the "Weird Brothers" get trigger happy he's gone.

To be fair, Choudhury, Hause & Davis (when/if fit) cannot be criticised as signings and I'd imagine Edwards had some input into signing all 3. Bayo & Manaj seem to have been early markers put down by the hierarchy along the lines of 'here you are, we're backing you'; it's just ludicrous they 'backed' him with rubbish.

The one that really p155e5 me off is allowing Kiko to go and then pulling the plug on the Laird deal. One of the stand-outs for me of the last promotion season is how the combination of Sarr & Kiko was so important to us pinning teams back as well as leading to a high proportion of chances created. Not saying Laird would have been as efficient as Kiko, but to get the most out of Sarr in the Championship he has to have a speedy RB he can link up with. Did you notice how exasperated he started to get yesterday with Gaspar's almost total refusal to attempt to link up with him?

I think once we signed Gaspar, United pulled the plug as they were worried he wouldn't get regular game time, so a bit of both, and in hindsight, a crazy decision by us!

Either way, it seems to have been closely linked to our bizarre decision to sign Gaspar who does not seem to fit any permutation RE was considering. And even if ManUre pulled the plug, we seem to have made little or no attempt to sign a RB/RWB with any pace.
