Good win to beat Alcatraz, although he has faced a dip for the first time in his fledgling career.
Good to see Coric back, beset by injury.
One would expect that match to last as long as the JP transfer thread!
Garcia keeps going, fuelled by her win at RG with Mladenovic.
Tsitsi into the doubles semi final too with the boy band member Rune.

Must be raining in Cincinnati as ladies suspended at 3-1 to Garcia in third.

Kvitova beat Keys earlier,BSS ( Before Sarr Sold)

Ah they're back out, just as I was off to bed!

They went off twice I think but Garcia managed to get the job done .

She did. The form player of the WTA since Wimbledon.
    Born again!
Astonishing performance this week from Coric.
With a protected ranking of 154 after shoulder surgery,he worked over Norrie and was comfortable once he came back from 1-3 .
After a night out at friends I stayed up to watch the conclusion of Garcia and Sabalenka and the first set of Tsitsipas v Medivet.
Tsitsi is showing encouraging signs since linking up with Philippousis.
Blocking many more returns of serve, slicing more and better, employing a better drop shot, mainly due to the increase feel on the slice and serving and volleying superbly.
After his poor performances v Rune at RG and the albeit induced melt down v Kyrgios he is looking like he might be the heir apparent to Federer's crown.
In playing style and all round game if not in titles.

Garcia wins the title as a Qualifier!

A mini Emma Radacanu type run then.

Fulfilling her potential after so many years of expectation.

Well played and there's Jamie Murray's first partner,Eric Boutorac.

Good job all the others aren't there, Tsitsi would be on a 1am again!

Coric wins after Tsitsi seems either injured or shattered.

After a superb start and leading 4-1 Tsitsipas faded and played a horrendous tie break.

    Interesting to hear his take.

Extraordinary week for Coric who will now be seeded at Flushing.

Ram and Salisbury win the doubles.

    2 qualifiers winning then .

Would have got good odds on that !

We do have some excellent doubles players .

    Don't say that!
It will make Cayer even more obnoxious than he already is!
Unfortunately it means that the best players rarely play singles these days, unless to sharpen their volleys.
They don't need the money as they did in the 70s,80s,90s.

“Drunk”’ women is suing Kyrigos for his comments about her at Wimbledon.

Seems a bit extreme - just a throw away comment wasn’t it ?

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/62644396

Potentially caused some personal issues in her life since ?

We live in a litigious society and as the tennis authorities have allowed Kyrgios to behave dreadfully for so long I'm not surprised.

Kyrgios will need his lawyer on speed dial at this rate!

Draper beats Fabio in Winston Salem.

Dart loses second round in Granby.

Broady into second qualifying round for Flushing.

Ten Italian men in the second round of qualies.
    Five lost first round.
Not to mention those accepted directly into main draw.
    Extraordinary depth.
    Peniston loses ,Jubb wins.
    Three GB women lose.

    My word!
    Another hideous shirt.
This time Broady's or "Broddy" calls him.
Not something that will affect ND,who will not be allowed to play.

As expected no Djokovic at the US open.

Riccardo Bonadio looks ANOTHER exciting Italian beating Borna Gojo in three.
    "Broddy" loses in three.

    Boulter out in straight.

Draper loses to Swiss qualifier in WS.
ER begins her defence at FM against Cornet.
    Tricky.

Linda Fruhvirtova is unnervingly composed for a 17 year old.
Has the happy knack of digging in points and winning them against the odds.
If she improves her serve ( odd that she's been allowed to keep the racket face open pre strike) she'll be top 40 by the spring.

  21. I Blame Pozzo

    I Blame Pozzo First Team

Rain stops play at 5-3 final set Fruhvirtova.
Brandon Holt, who's just qualified, is the son of former two time champion Tracy Austin.
Another Czech teenager Noskova is through too.
Czech women, Italian men, their programmes are to be envied.

  22. I Blame Pozzo

    I Blame Pozzo First Team

Watson loses to Bejlik, who I watched beat Mladenovic in round 1. Unbelievably tough, qualies.
    Jubb out in three too.
ER struggling with a wrist injury and has to abort two practices.
    Not a good sign.

  23. I Blame Pozzo

    I Blame Pozzo First Team

    Bejlik is 16!
That's three teenagers from the Czech Republic who have qualified.
Two 17 year olds and one of 16.
Remarkable achievement for Czech women's tennis.
    Don't forget Kvitova, Bouzkova, Pliskova,Siniakova,Krejcikova ....

I can only assume that the Adidas designer this summer has been dropping acid.
Sakkari is in a dress that looks like an orange has exploded on her.
Or a child of three has been let loose with the crayons.
Almost as bad as Tsitsipas's effort in Cinci.

    Very impressive.

Few seeds on both sides going out or having trouble.

Halep, who hasn't played well for a while,Basilashvili, too many to mention including Tsitsipas who lost to a qualifier Galan ( no one wants to play a qualifier, witness Cincinnati and ER last year!)

Good for Dart but Kasatkina served like a ladies second team player. Not that the Cumberland Club will mind!

They'll be dancing on the Finchley Road no doubt!

    Good win for Draper too.

After a couple of positive days for British tennis a shame to to see Radacanu beaten in straight sets by another French lady.

Cornet was always going to be a dangerous non seed to play and it proved.

Unfortunately means Emma will lose loads of rankings points carried over from last year .

Not the worst thing for her,she can now find her correct level as opposed to the inflated one given by last year's fairy tale.

Plenty of other top players out, Rybakina for one.

Nadal loses the first set but through.

Benoit Paire will undoubtedly be fined for tanking against Norrie.

The Serena retirement show rolls on for another round.

    Just so.
Draper is an unknown quantity to the top guys and Felix is an enigma, similar to Tsitsi.
    Promises so much,delivers occasionally.

Four GB chaps into round three.
Murray will do well if he beats Berrettini.
I don't know who the others play,I'm still mourning for Tsitsipas, the sap!
