    Sarr missed half the season.

Obviously if we kept both but at least one of them was out for half the season and then out of form for much of the rest it would negate their benefit somewhat.

Even if we keep just one though and have them fully fit throughout the season then not getting promoted again will be a failure.

I suggested that. Apparently that isn't correct (not the exact words used, but a more neutral interpretation).

To be fair, Bachman/Foster, Kiko, Cathcart, WTE, Masina was a tragic way to start the season. I would go as far as to say Dennis probably over-performed over a course of a season. If some others just even had a below average season we’d be okay.

We might need to find a defence and a midfield as well if we want to go up.

Sarr and Dennis won't be enough otherwise, even if they're motivated to do so.

I wish it's the same value for Dennis because Forrest are really serious about signing him and the 20m isn't a problem for them. Am really worried because Dennis will be more important for us than Sarr. Yes Sarr knows the Championship better but he won't score 20 goals and to me, seems to be more injury prone than Dennis. So what happens if Sarr is out for like 3 to 4 months? And when he is back, will he be playing at his best? But Dennis on the other hand has been described as HAPPY TO STAY even though we are in the Championship and that to me is a positive sign that we will see him at his best this season. I wish we can increase our asking price to 25m or anything close to 30m to discourage his admirers and if any team still meet up with that, then both parties will be happy when he leaves.

Don’t think Sarr is that injury prone - just got a bad injury due to being tackled by Van Der Beek .

The major is due will be their motivation once they know a move might not happen.

Sarr will probably either want to do well before the World Cup or try to do as little as possible to make sure he stays fit .

Dennis might well be up for it but also get frustrated if things don’t go his or our way .

As of right now I think both will stay. We’re no longer in a position to sell on the cheap if you believe Duxbury on our financial situation. It’s clear we’ve laid our stall out, Sarr £30mil, Dennis £25mil+. When Rodon and McNeil are being signed for £17-20mil, it’s hard to argue that Sarr isn’t worth £30mil. I don’t think it will be until the last week of the window that bids will come in for them. Think deadline day will be a bidding war of desperate clubs. However they will need to match our valuation.

We’ve laid our stall out because Gino isn’t a complete idiot and giving of the vibe you’re desperate is the best way to get a bad price. Your logic is way off with Ncneil, he’s both home grown and 22, so if anything will fetch a premium over Sarr, how you think that makes Sarr worth £10m more with two years left on his deal is baffling. Rodon I believe is also homegrown as he was at Swansea since he was 15 and he’s a defender, so again how that makes Sarr worth £30m I have now idea how you reach that conclusion.

Dennis and Sarr are both for sale and will very likely be sold, Gino just isn’t completely stupid and telling the world he’s desperate to get rid of them at all costs, it’s called negotiating.

We'll probably sell both but too late to replace them.

We'll 'give youth a chance' instead.

At least Baah will get a game... oh.

    You can see it now.

They win us a few points then attract interest at the price we want and sold late on leaving us no time to get a replacement in.

And suddenly we don’t score goals or get points ..

If both stay, there is no reason they both still won’t get big money moves in January or the following summer with decent performances in the championship. Players are going for more money than ever before. Tottenham signing spence for over £15 million as a defender, unproven at PL level. Both Sarr and Dennis have played and scored goals in the PL and international level. It would be mad to drop their price tags. In todays market, they are worth every penny and if they stay will be major assets to us and have every chance of bouncing straight back up

Second half of last season, a month or so after Roy's appointment, it was obvious to everyone we are going down. If there is any way you can watch highlights of each goals we scored starting from that game against Brentford, one thing that was really obvious to me is Dennis unlike other players and fans seems to believe we can stay up. Just look at his reactions to each goal we scored especially that Kamara's goal at the Etihad, Dennis seems more happy than any of our players and was making some sort of sign to the fans to get behind the team even though we all know we are going down.
I don't see him to be the type to show his frustration on the field if things are not going our way. He will still give 100% on the field but at the end of the season he might want to make a move if don't get promoted.

I do understand why people are using homegrown players as a way to gauge Sarr & Dennis's value but then you do have to factor in homegrown tax there. Anyone English and half decent is going to be more expensive than their foreign counterpart.

Am not sure Dennis will stay. Everton, W Ham seems not interested for now and have signed attacking players that are not even better than Dennis and I think that's there plan for us to lower our asking price or for him to try and force a move. But the problem they both have right now is Forrest isn't shy to spend 20m on Dennis and I keep on seeing headlines about them being serious about signing Dennis. I think once Forrest make an official bid of 20m and we are ready to do a deal and Dennis seems willing to go there, Everton and W Ham will try to hijack the deal with a bid of 22m plus. When that happens, Newcastle or a team in the champions league (out of the blue) might eventually beat everyone to it with a 25m bid.

I cannot see Dennis wanting to join Forest or an Everton even if he thinks/knows bigger or better clubs are interested.

Champions league ones might just be stretching it a bit!

So you think he will still be committed on the pitch but also might try to force a move...

    Is that a bit conflicting?

Anyway we'll see- they've turned up for training and played friendlies which is something.

We've had far lesser players in the past refusing to play because they wanted to move on.

Without doubt Dennis would join Everton. More money and probably guaranteed premier league career for the term of his contract there. Nottingham Forest, not so sure, would probably depend on contract terms but current season in the prem on prem pay and chance to impress further at that level so yes I expect he’d go.
Nightmare scenario would be a £15m bid for either, player wants to go, Gino won’t sell, player throws toys out of the pram to force a move.

    Yes fair point.

Lampard will give it the big sell as well and his name could attract players potentially.

Forest are an unknown case - he might just end up in another relegation battle in all likelihood.

Agree on your last bit - perform till about September but we don't do well or they get kicked about and then decide it's not worth the hassle.

Sarr will want to protect himself for the World Cup too,

Bet the agents are still pushing for moves too.

That plus using defenders as a comparison and saying well they’re only a defender so Sarr should be worth more, things are different now it’s not 30 years ago when only strikers sold for good money, a good defender will go for the same price as any other position, in this day and age a keeper can sell for as much as anyone.

Leeds being heavily linked with a move. According to reports in France, we want £35mil. Think they mean €.

The French report I saw was €35m. Foot Mercato. Not sure it’s really risen to “heavily linked” but certainly a report from FM, a good source. If Leeds give us £30m they can most certainly have him (especially if we keep Dennis).

If he’s sensible, he steers well clear of Leeds though. Could easily be swapping leagues again next summer. Leeds look very weak to me and have lost their 2 standout players and replaced them with unknown quantities.

I know the PL is a huge draw for any player - but I genuinely would rather stay at Watford for 6-12 months than go there. Then either go into the PL with us or leave for a better club than Leeds when the price is much lower.

Really think Dennis and Sarr are sensible enough to know the above and will want destinations where they can reasonably expect a PL future.

Was going off this aswell. Lots of reports on it, hence the “heavily linked.” Probably all taking the French report and running with it.

Would only accept £30mil providing the club keep Dennis and reinvest that money wisely. Meaning, sign Clarke permanently from Brighton and sign a quality HG CM.

Obviously I would rather Sarr stay, but if selling him means the above happens and we have more balance to the squad, then overall that will do.

Pretty sure that guy is just parroting/citing the Foot Mercato report though. He’s also followed up to clarify he meant Euros not pounds. Would be pretty content with getting a good deal for Sarr, keeping Dennis and dropping £5m on say, Ben Whiteman and £2m on Matt Clarke.
Yeah you’d hope so. I do think/hope that we’ve got enough money from sales that the player’s preference is the only factor that could cause a move and we’re not as actively trying to cash in.

I'd rather just keep the players if we can, I don't trust Poxbury to reinvest at all

That being said, if we have to sell one of the attackers, hes the most replaceable of the 3 in our current system. Also, from a purely financial view, a €35m sale would represent a tasty €7m profit on our initial outlay

I would guess the idea is that we don't replace Sarr directly, and move to a 3-5-2, as exciting as our front 3 is, and as dangerous as Sarr can be (despite looking quiet for large stretches), if we get rid of Sarr we still have 2 forwards who can play in a front 2 and should be absolutely deadly at this level, and an extra body in midfield where we struggled last night

I agree. You cannot trust the club to invest wisely. They tend to make the best deals, in terms of quality, when they sign players for free or very low fees. Rarely do they get it right when they spend decent money.

This season alone we’ve wasted £10m on Bayo and Okoye. For that money both players should be starting, but are not as good as what we’ve already got.

When money is so tight, it’s reprehensible to waste it on players we don’t need. Kalu is another who cost us £3m when we didn’t need him and have never played him.

How Giaretta is still in a job is beyond me.

    Force of circumstances I guess.

Had Bachmann gone to Man U, then Okoye would have started on Monday. As it was, he stayed and then obviously impressed in training. Will Okoye prove to be a waste of money? A bit harsh to say so far, but there’s no escaping the fact that he was signed for quite a large fee in January when we should have waited until he was out of contract in summer.

Bayo I imagine was signed to be our main forward this season, but to our unexpected surprise we found Sarr and Dennis still here. A waste of money? Again maybe too harsh to say yet. If our worst fears come true, we could be needing him a lot after the window has shut.

Kalu. Nonsensical transfer. There can be no debate that he’s been a waste. That money could have bought us a new centre back.

There is of course also an unpleasant 3rd person connection between Bayo and Kalu, and when neither start the season, it reinforces our suspicions that something rather untoward is going on.

Giaretta has made error after error and it’s very tough to argue in support of him still being here.
