If only we were a well run mid table Prem club with a long-standing manager, the analogy might make a degree of sense then.

I can’t share the excitement unfortunately and it makes me sad. If the ship is righted financially and we play good football with a long term plan and have integrity in the boardroom (Bayat either cleared or ties severed) in three years (even if all in the championship) then I would love to admit I am wrong.

As it stands I go to Watford and go through the motions.

Obviously we don’t like some of the things our owners apparently do but since I have been following the hornets
The owners have been, Jim Bonsor, Sir Elton John, Jack Petchey, Sir Elton John (again), Graham Simpson and the Rosso’s, Lawrence Bassini and now the Pozzo’s, after Elton John none of the previous owners come anywhere close to what the current owners have achieved! To want them out is plain folly!

I’d genuinely suggest Charlton’s 5 year prospects are better than ours, given what Pozzo has done to us financially.

Ok let’s bookmark this and see where Charlton and us are in 5 years time, I know who my moneys on to be in better shape!

The problem Charlton have had in recent years is a number of owners who have mismanaged the club in some way starting with that Belgium chap they had not long after the Pozzos came in and basically tried to do what they did - bring in a load of players from clubs he owed elsewhere.

I actually remember when they beat us 3-4 in the 12/13 season a lot of their fans actually commented on how they'd hate to be like us - having overseas owners and a load of overseas players who didn't care about the club etc.

It was the game when Neuton basically did a forward roll or something after slightly being pushed in he chest which didn't do down well!

Whereas at the time it worked for us they ended up being relegated and despite bouncing back under Lee Bowyer didn't have any stability and went back down straight away (mainly due to a late final day win for Barnsley and Brentford)

There they had another set of owners who promised the world but lasted about 5 minutes before being found out as dodgy.

And like us had quite a few managers/players come and go.

As for Edwards - well he probably won't suddenly up sticks but if sacked at some point he might say something about the recruitment.

So this whole thread in the last couple of hours is based on absolutely nothing?! Do people really want the club to fail in an attempt to get a new owner? Jesus wept

You call fans oddballs in the same post as wanting your club to fail. Sorry but that is odd in itself

Club has already failed and is in peril due to Pozzo. Financially, ethically and culturally. The odd thing is so many of our fans don’t even realise it. Even interviews like Gosling’s are dismissed with “wow that’s bad but they have changed now”. Our fans are unbelievable.

I thought it all came about because @ITK made some jokey post about Edwards wanting out a couple of pages back saying this and that happened.

    But he wasn't being serious..

I have tickets for the first four matches. Have a pass for Preston away, the first match of the caretaker after Rob spends the autumn with his family.

Agreed, this idea that Gino is going to sell up in the near future is pure fantasy. Just like the idea that Elton Is going to reinvest in the club . He’s here for the long Haul . He believes in what he’s doing and that he can establish Watford in the premier league . I think those thinking somehow we can force the owner out are somewhat misguided.

Matters not if I like or dislike an owner, I could never want my club to fail. I was on the pitch for the Grimsby game trying to get Petchey out but at no point did I ever want us to lose

Your club has already failed across numerous metrics. Financially (accounts). The culture is rancid (Gosling). Ethically (Bayat is facing financial crime charges yet is embedded in the club). What more evidence do you need??

If we get someone with seriously deep pockets then yes. The Pozzos aren’t that rich, compared to PL owners

Yeah that’s where I am. Pozzo has resulted in football being over for me. We have already failed. Beating Sheff Utd doesn’t change that.

Once more for those who are hard of reading - barely anyone, if anyone at all, has forgotten the success the Pozzo’s brought. Just some don’t think that success should have been achieved at the costs it has - in their opinion. And many think the days of allowing them to trade on those past glories have been hugely eroded over the past couple of years.

Some don’t think the above - as is totally their right too.

But the ‘remember what the Pozzo’s have done for us’ argument has been done to death because very, very few people have denied that.

Can I ask what is different between now and 2010 for example? Not that I don't agree with some of your post (distance has "comforted" increased apathy for Watford), but in 2010 we were in financial mire and playing dire football. Is it the promise (or lack thereof) or the fact that we tasted the forbidden fruit and are now so far from it that it seems like a myth to us?

  27. Jumbolina

    Jumbolina First Team

Yeah. Mostly limited football around that time . I remember some promise in Malkay time but other than that a few years of glumness. Always felt we had integrity though, no matter how poor we fared. You are right though, maybe the taste of premier league and the frustration at what we have wasted has an impact.

i just feel now we are a vessel for a bunch of people with low integrity. If I hadn’t previously supported Watford for 20 years I would look on us as a horrible vile little club these days. I find it so hard to summon any feeling for us anymore and didn’t have that problem in 2010. Maybe it’s just me,

As for those wishing to get rid of our ‘vile’ owner...
Be careful what you wish for..
The grass may look greener but only because it’s been covered in sh*t...
    etc
And what have the Pozzos ever done for us, other than the aqueduct...?

It mostly just sounds like you've been turning in to a drama queen.

"If we drift to 12th as I expect"

You mean you expect us to finish 12th this season?!

  30. nisman94

    nisman94 International Man of Mystery

It's definitely not just you, Uncle Ron is a testament to that. As for the integrity back in those days, I think we looked like we had integrity and in reality behind the scenes did not. Hence why we were a mess at boardroom level prior to Bassini and even more once he arrived. It's magnified with Gino in charge and the lack of communication has not helped.

I look back to a few years ago where we'd defend the managerial carousel and a few other things instinctively; now I can't muster that because I know that the club isn't right with that (amongst other things like the supposed treatment of Hughes, if true) leaving such a sour taste in my mouth

Were you making these sort of complaints when we were winning promotion for the first time under the Pozzos?

I've also been a Watford fan for over 20 years and still easily remember when even mid-table Championship mediocrity felt like a good result.

  32. Jumbolina

Depends on Sarr and Dennis. Keep one of them I expect playoffs. Sell both could easily see us lower than 12th.

  33. lowerrous

    lowerrous First Team

Yes, we've had Bassini as an owner but somehow were a club with more integrity in the past?!

I wonder if the fact that all the bits of information on the club are increasingly available, discussed and dissected on social media and internet message boards such has this one has just made people more conscious of the type of shady crap which has likely always existed but most fans were previously clueless/in the dark about.

  34. Jumbolina

No. First 6 years up to Silva felt like a wonderful time full of forward momentum and positivity. Even the Sannino mid table season. Something changed at end of Silva and even the cup final year. Can’t put my finger on it.

  35. lowerrous

    lowerrous First Team

The team lost momentum and burned out, the players who had got us to the PL and helped us to stay there for a bit were on the decline and not replaced adequately. This sort of thing can happen in football.

Look at Sheffield Utd under Wilder - loads of momentum on promotion and took the PL by storm first season. Then only a season later a couple of key injuries, some poor signings, and an overworked relatively old squad suddenly fell with a whimper to bounce around in the Champ again.

Such momentum can be difficult to sustain, and an FA Cup final and 11th place finish is something which a club like ours will always struggle to get beyond anyway.
