Not impressed with our transfer activity so far in this window, in or out of the club. IMO we need some decent activity very soon as we have quite a tough start to the season and I can see us playing catch-up all season if we fail to strengthen or get any new recruits up to speed before the season gets going in just a few weeks.
Would've been an interesting and exciting signing, but not surprised to hear it appears dead in the water. He’ll have a role to play for Villa this season.
We'll end up with Geoffrey Archer. An old has been. He'll feel right at home with the likes of Mogi for company.
Still think he'd be best off in the Championship next season (not necessarily with us mind you!), is he realistically going to get into the Villa team this season?
Unless they shed an incredibly expensive striker, they're already oversubscribed as it is - I said at the time that it made no sense to spaff all that cash on Ings just to get in Watkins' way.
Looks like the door is shutting on this one. Gerrard wants to keep Archer by the sounds of it. Sunderland AFC transfer news: Ex-England man hands transfer blow to Cats, Watford, West Brom and Middlesbrough | Sunderland Echo
I would bow to your opinion but there are strings attached - we will be left with a pile of arrows and no-one to fire them.
...and asking Soton to ignore other offers and hang on until the last minute after we have sold Sarr or Dennis.
I think Villa have said they will tell Archer whether they want him to stay or go out on loan again once they’re back shortly from their Australian tour.
Villa say Archer can go on loan for the season IF they sign another forward this summer. They’ve been linked with a few
Wonder if they'd consider a Dennis for Archer swap? Might not be the worst thing in the world for us...
I’m not sure I’d want a swap. Big gamble on Archer coming good. Maybe knock a couple mil off the asking price if they guarantee us Archer on loan.
If we can keep at least one of Dennis and Sarr, and bring on board Archer, we should most definitely try and achieve that first.
Judging by how slow business seems to be, I highly doubt that's possible, but it is of course the dream
Just came to post this too. At least it means Boro (who need a good striker) won’t be having him either. But good homegrown attackers at the price point are pretty thin on the ground now, with Southampton clear that Armstrong is staying too. Unless we signed a currently starting championship striker for lots of dosh, there’s basically just Ugbo and Liam Delap and both would be far more punt-y than Archer. Maybe Sam Greenwood but that would be underwhelming for me. I wonder if that strengthens our resolve to keep Sarr and/or Dennis.
Do Boro still need a striker? They just signed Marcus Forss and I heard they were in for a young American from Schalke (not sure if he's signed mind you)
Think they’re looking for 2 more (which would include Hoppe). But may just be Forss and one other. I’d be pretty miffed if I were a Boro fan given that they’ve raised £27m in sales and were linked with the likes of Gyokeres. Especially as that’s so clearly the cherry on top they need to go from a promising squad to a promotion squad.
